30,000 Feet And Looking At June

Look, I’m not saying I’m some kind of hockey genius. I’m very, very smart and have a child-like charm that keeps all 12 of you coming back.
But a hockey genius? Certainly not. Just a Red Wing fan who happened to see into the future on a cross country flight while a fat men slept just a few inches to my left.
Yes, I write this on the way to Sailortown, USA also known as San Diego. And I write after having just watched an NBC inflight mini-doc on Sidney Crosby. Midway through I saw the end of May, and with it came the re-birth of hockey in the U.S.
Good God!, you’re saying. He’s having, as Shooter said in “Hoosiers”, strange visions. I most certainly am. What are they you ask?
Thank you for asking. Thank you kindly. I see Crosby in the Finals. I see a city that almost lost its team ride a euphoric Crosby-led wave right to the cusp of glory. And, yes, there he will meet…
...your Detroit Red Wings. You must believe me when I tell you that I saw this unfold so very clearly. The Kid against The Rejuvenated Dynasty.
I see seven games. I see shutouts and offensive explosions. I see double overtimes and I see players dealing with pain and playing through it….inflamed discs or not.
I see a mainstream media frenzy, their hands forced because the story is just too good to ignore. I see a hockey fan base formerly split in their feelings about Chris Chelios come together as one, pitchforks and torches at the ready, as they watch Cheli abuse The Kid.
And I see heartbreak that will light a fire for redemption. I see Steve Yzerman visiting a crestfallen Crosby in a somber Pen room, consoling him as the Conn Smythe sits lonely in the corner.
The fat guy is nodding and drooling and I’m considering poking him in the neck with my coffee straw. My vision is fading, but I believe it. I see it and will make my playoff guarantee now.
Wings over Pens in 7.

Did you leave a window open on the plane? I think the thin air may have gotten to you.

you saw, you saw, hey..you didn’t happen to see what year it was, or if Barry Smith was coaching the wings.?

A fantastic vision, but I’m sorry to have to break this to you. What you experienced was a hallucination brought on by traveling to the land that hockey forgot. San Diego is a perfect hockey vacuum that lends quite nicely to visions and dementia. If you stay you’ll soon find yourself blogging incoherently and begin pronouncing everyone’s name with a Tiajuana accent. (Hey esé, did you see Heeree Oodler’s goal last night?)
Then one day you’ll become fully San Diegan by uttering “NHL? Aren’t they on strike or something?”

Umm…..if there is only 12 of us loyal readers and right now three of us are here in Sandy Eggo…..does that make the town a WingNut Center of sorts? Scary, very scary…
I have NHL Center Ice stop bye if you get a chance. The games start early out here.

I’d like to know what Mike Babcock has to say after the clinching game 7

How sweet would it be if those two teams did make it to the Finals? Oh, it can be fun to dream…

Whatever you were drinking…bottle it and sell it, and you could make a fortune! (Great vision, though. If it comes true, I’ll be asking you for lottery numbers for sure.)

I had a very similar vision. It was exactly the same right up until game 7.. with 3 minutes left, when chelios got called for breathing too heavily on crosby, only to be outdone by a call on norris nick, lady byng nick, for unsportsmanlike.. for farting on crosby only 10 seconds later(not very lady like). Then pens go on to score the tying goal 20 seconds into the 5v3, the go ahead goal comes as the ensuing power play is winding down, with lidstrom getting ready to come out of the box. Theres a minute left.. this game is over.
Why? Because gary bettman will never allow todd bertuzzi to touch sydney crosbys cup. Cant you see the headlines now? Sydney crosby takes down the mighty wings! He single handedly wins game 7 with a pair of goals with under 3 to go!!!
Whats a better story? That? or 500 more stories about moore?

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
