About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

Wanna Feel Smart?

Does confusion make you sad?  When you read words like “enigma” and phrases like “Thanks Gary. Ass”, do you wonder why mean people speak in languages you don’t understand?  Fret no longer friend!  The A2Y Glossary will bring you great joy and enlightenment.

How Others View The A2Y 19

“Hell, I guarantee the content co-opters at Abel to Yzerman were about to link this article under the heading “Bitter Blues Fans” again right up until they just read that last half-sentance. Thanks but no thanks, you Kukla hangers-on.”
--St. Louis Game Time

“I realize it’s the slow summer season, but can this guy tone down the tough-guy histrionics? His posts are fatiguing on an otherwise excellent site.”
--A2Y Fan, Eternal_Fields

“I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season.”
--Mile High Hockey

“I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…”
--In The Cheap Seats

“It’s just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don’t deserve their team.”
--Thhom

“I really don’t care what fans or bloggers think.”
--Drew Sharp

“Why is it you Detroit fans are still so classless when you have such a classy hockey team, with such a professional GM and gentlemen players?  I understand that the author of this blog is a manner-less cad, but the rest of you should be better.”
--A2Y Fan, Jeff Beaumont

And Later That Night When The Ship’s Bell Rang?  That Was A Game 3 Live Blog, Brother

A muddy track deepinthehearta.  Sloggy and slushy.  Haze frigging gray and underway.  As it should be.

Wings win tonite?  Game, set, series.  Wings lose?  Start shoveling coal because we’ve got ourselves a Stress Train Special.

It’s a Game 3 Live Blog.  Commence your conversations.  The only mandate is juvenilicity.  I’ll join you when they drop the puck.

Updated 1940 EST:  Wanna guess who said this?

“We don’t think much of them on a personal, character level. We think that’s to our advantage.”

Yep. Turco

I noted on the KK Hockey page that Turco seems intent on providing the Wings some bulletin board material, and it’s hard to say whether or not he’s looking to get his bell rung, or embarassed by an offensive display.

It’s sad, really. I never used to have negative feelings towards Turco and the Stars in general, but my how things change…

Turco never struck me as an immensely stupid person.  But talk like that is just crack-laden babble. Wings win tonite and you’ll be seeing that quote again.  It will become an A2Y hallmark.

Lehtinen a no-show for the pre-game skate.

Ronnie Wilson fired.  Guess he’ll be taking those morale-building trips up to the mountains by himself.

I see Dub over there; I was trying to post but it wouldn’t let me. They must have Wing fan detectors on or something. Bitches…

You can also pull in the VS feed by opening the following URL in Media Player; it’s the best streaming quality that I’ve found.

Hola WingNuts!

No Lehtinen—darn

Posted by Jeff - - OklahomaWingNut from Wind-Swept-Plains  on  05/12  at  08:01 PM

Yeah. What a shame Okie.  Tornado-like weather in DC today.  I hid under my desk all afternoon.

Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC  on  05/12  at  08:02 PM

Damn...I have to watch VS tonight. CBC isn’t carrying it...grrr..

“why didn’t the stars win last game?”

--> because the wings shut them down you tool..

Posted by Osrt  on  05/12  at  08:03 PM

Did ya know DAL is 2 - 4 at home, and have lost 4 of the last 5?

Just saying

Posted by Jeff - - OklahomaWingNut from Wind-Swept-Plains  on  05/12  at  08:03 PM

Yeah, Osrt. But listen to the VS tools, and Melrose a few minutes before on ESPN News.  “The Stars played much better.” Really, other than the obvious? Prove it.  They got out hit by a wider margin. Lost more faceoffs. The shot differential was greater.

Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC  on  05/12  at  08:04 PM

Quit bitching OSRT—I’m always stuck with the VS.  At least Emerick is tolerable, and Jones is okay—but thats it

Posted by Jeff - - OklahomaWingNut from Wind-Swept-Plains  on  05/12  at  08:04 PM

Hey, good advice from the Vs. commentators!  “It doesn’t matter what they do, it only matters what we do?  Then stop trying to play like the Detroit Red Wings!”

And proceed to get hopelessly outclassed.

Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor  on  05/12  at  08:04 PM

“why didn’t the stars win last game?”

I heard that Osrt...the stars played a “terrific game” why did’nt they win??....jeez the love fest begins early!

Posted by Rumbear from Sandy Eggo  on  05/12  at  08:05 PM

thanks for the links guys...good work!

Posted by yzer19man from Chicago  on  05/12  at  08:05 PM

Really Okie? Melrose said they’ve played “very well at home.” He must have access to super-secret Thhhhom-like stats that you and I aren’t privy too.  You’re damn right I said privy.  I’ll say it again...privy.  I have no problem saying privy, because that’s how I roll motherfuckers.

Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC  on  05/12  at  08:05 PM

“why didn’t the stars win last game?”

Because the Star scored once, and the Wings scored twice.

I hate all things Versus…

I agree Andrew—I’m thinking DAL is playing on emotion—I really think they have little or no gas in the tank.

Roll 4 lines, and survive until the last 1/2 of the game

Drake should get double credit for that faceoff win as a winger and without his stick.

Posted by Nate A from metro Detroit  on  05/12  at  08:28 PM

Posted by lilja4ever  on  05/12  at  08:28 PM

Hoodlum and Helm have some chemistry.  I think there’s a good shot they get something going tonight.

Posted by Dave  on  05/12  at  08:29 PM

That last play was hot.  Nice handling. Mmmmm…

Posted by WingBitch  on  05/12  at  08:29 PM

Posted by Jeff - - OklahomaWingNut from Wind-Swept-Plains  on  05/12  at  08:29 PM

so now yanking a guy’s stick out of his hands at center ice isn’t a penalty?  hmmmm....

Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach  on  05/12  at  08:29 PM

And the Datsyuk makes a great kick-pass too.

Ozzie looking sharp and alert.  I’m thinking he wants to go 3-0 as bad as anyone on the team.

Hoodlum and Helm have some chemistry.  I think there’s a good shot they get something going tonight.

I’d have to agree. If nothing else, Helm’s insane speed draws all eyes to him while Huds can sneak into the opposite circle for a one-timer or rebound.

Posted by Nate A from metro Detroit  on  05/12  at  08:31 PM

(You like that, Marty?  Two from Datsyuk and the first ain’t over yet...)

Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor  on  05/12  at  08:40 PM

Bury these guys.  Score here and they fall apart.

Posted by Dave  on  05/12  at  08:40 PM

Great shift from Chelios.

Agreed.

Turco is seeing flash backs right now… tonight he’s going to help prove that Dats is a Playoff Stud

That’ll suck the life right outta the Stars

If we can pot the next goal—this could get really ugly

and be a short freaking series

Oh man, what a time for my stream to go down.

Posted by Modnar from Cincinnati, OH  on  05/12  at  08:41 PM

so if you’re Turco, and Datsyuk is in alone, what do you do?  go for the fake?  expect the fake and let Datsyuk go the other way?  all Datsyuk would have to do is blink and Turco would wet himself.

Maltby smash!

Posted by scheisskopf  on  05/12  at  08:49 PM

so Morrow comes in and throws an elbow...no call.  Maltby throws a clean check...and it’s a penalty.

holy inconsistent officiating Batman!

Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach  on  05/12  at  08:49 PM

Well, early storm weathered.  If it weren’t for some bad icing and a bad icing call, it’d be 2-0.  Stars start the second with a full two-minute PP, though.  Thanks Gary.  Ass.

Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor  on  05/12  at  08:49 PM

Me too Chief, though I hate to admit it.  But my ass is ok.  Hope you aren’t sleeping on the couch tonight.

How do they not notice Morrow holding Lebda’s stick? did you guys see that?

Posted by Osrt  on  05/12  at  08:53 PM

Morrow should get the primary assist on that goal, since he was the one who decided to take a nap on Lebda’s stick while the goal was scored.

I swear, it improves every time I hear him, but that was GREAT.  His English really is good…

WTSN commentators taking Homer over Ciccarelli in the contest of crease-crashers...of course, Dino taught Homer a thing or two in his early days.

Wings have got to take care of business and end this series quick.

Hysterical video tpic!  Performance like that, he oughta be playing soccer.

Posted by WingBitch  on  05/12  at  08:57 PM

Every time they show the replay of Morrow holding and then laying on Lebda’s stick it chafes my arse.

Especially considering the pass went through an area that Lebda would have most likely moved to in coverage.

Posted by moocat  on  05/12  at  08:57 PM

Posted by Jeff - - OklahomaWingNut from Wind-Swept-Plains  on  05/12  at  08:59 PM

I noticed him on the bench the last two minutes Mo.  Did he head to the room early?

Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC  on  05/12  at  08:59 PM

Dats was on TSN… they don’t provide much analysis for the games these days though, not much to say except Dallas has to find a way to overcome the Wings defence, and offence, and goalie, and…

Posted by VooX  on  05/12  at  08:59 PM

Dats on an interview? where?

TSN coverage, Osrt.  NASN picked up their feed instead of Vs.  If you’re on the east side of MI and can pick it up from Canada, that short interview made it worth the inane babble.

Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor  on  05/12  at  08:59 PM

MO, I hope you’re seeing things....I didn’t notice that.

Maybe just a precautionary, get some ice quicker, type of thing?

Posted by Osrt  on  05/12  at  09:01 PM

Lucky bastards—im stuck with VS.

I’d listen to the Ken Kal on the radio feed online, but it is way out of sync with the HD

At least the Video is awesome

Posted by Jeff - - OklahomaWingNut from Wind-Swept-Plains  on  05/12  at  09:02 PM

How can they be so oblivious to all of the obvious penalties that Homer draws?

Homer doesn’t draw penalties.  Little known subrule is that you can do whatever you want to Swedes, they don’t count.

Posted by Clark  on  05/12  at  09:02 PM

Osrt - Considering the slashes he took it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s exactly what happened.

Posted by moocat  on  05/12  at  09:02 PM

Iwo he took the last face off on the left wing and didn’t see anything happen per say but he was slower than usual on the way to the bench and Malts doesn’t EVER roll over the boards with D n Z. Ya know?
And then Malts makes a run on Norstrom.... hence the PP for Dallas.
Gotta run geta beer and back to the tube.

Scheisskopf, Pang just said the same thing on TSN, as they showed the replay.  Blind refs…

Posted by AndrewFromAnnArbor  on  05/12  at  09:04 PM

I freaking HATE VS. It’s painful to listen to those guys call a game. When I watched NHL Live earlier today they were talking to Dave Strader and they said he was calling the game tonight. Is he on TSN? Because at least Dave does a great job of coming across relatively unbiased.

ORST, there is no quickening the slush they mistake for ice in Texass.
Let’s hope Homers good to go.

how the hell did Datsyuk know that hit was coming?  must be those eyes in the back of his head.  I’ve noticed before, and now I think even more, that he looks at the reflections in the glass to see what’s happening behind him.
