A muddy track deepinthehearta. Sloggy and slushy. Haze frigging gray and underway. As it should be.
Wings win tonite? Game, set, series. Wings lose? Start shoveling coal because we’ve got ourselves a Stress Train Special.
It’s a Game 3 Live Blog. Commence your conversations. The only mandate is juvenilicity. I’ll join you when they drop the puck.
Updated 1940 EST: Wanna guess who said this?
“We don’t think much of them on a personal, character level. We think that’s to our advantage.”
Yep. Turco.

Perhaps I should type that more clealy
Wings set a team record with their 9th consecutive playoff win
5 Chief
Sweet freaking 5

I remember saying that the THN preview of this round looked exactly like the preview of the 2nd round (Detroit’s opponent is deeper at forward and the hot goalie will make all the difference). The execution is starting to look the same too.

Marty give up 5 on 21 shots SWEET
I wonder if we’ll see Budaj in net for game four.
Oh, wait, wrong series.

Kay, the playoffs commercial on VS with DET and DAL is cracking me up right now. “And I am a giant killer” being DAL’s line. Not so much.

I don’t often complain about officiating but the calls/non-calls in this game were crapolicious.

props to Datsyuk on the hat trick, but damn that goal was ALL Zetterberg. got the puck out from FOUR Dallas players. unbelievable.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 05/12/08 at 09:38 PM ET
Yeah, I just saw your post, Paul. I’m with ya.

Wrong series Modnar, same tune though!!!!

Agreed Jennifer. Letting them get away with plays as ugly as the ice surface was tonight could have (and almost did) cost the teams some of their best players.

See you guys on Wed. I’ll be up bright and early tomorrow putting up the postgame MSM in the Forum; should be entertaining!!
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 05/12/08 at 09:41 PM ET
Yeah, still not tired of seeing Turckey on his ass.
Posted by WingBitch from Virginia on 05/12/08 at 09:41 PM ET
That nose will probably keep Drake out for Game 4. Sounds like Deputy Downey will need to step in for him, and ensure Dallas goes out quietly…

‘Gnight all! See you Wednesday.

In retrospect, Babcock using the timeout early turned out really great. Tippet gassed all his best players trying to get that tying goal. They got it and Uncle Mike came right back with the circus line and shoved the puck right back down their throats. Wings dominated the third and wouldn’t have needed the TO there.

Anaheim was considered by many to be a Cup favorite, Dallas shut them down in 6.
St Joe was considered by many to be a Cup favorite, Dallas closed them out in 6.
Detroit is considered by many to be a Cup favorite...and Dallas is their bitch.

Franzen out? Not a whisper. Just keep winnin’.
If it’s two straight sweeps, will the Pens have to be shaking in their skates?
Apologies Chief, I seem to have been gettin’ in your way all evening.
But hell, if it means more games like this, I’ll gladly continue to get the wrong end of the stick.
Forget whoever is backing up Marty...who’s backing up Marty’s shrink?
Jesse Ventura is on NASN with a skullet. I’m pretty sure that’s the universal sign for ‘Run Away.’ Night all. See you for Slushfest 4.

Get in my way Andrew? Not a chance brother. See you guys in the AM. Oddly enough, look for another “Wreck” reference for Wednesday’s live blog.

I haven’t seen the Wings play with such confidence in the playoffs in years.

3 stars:
Datsyuk
Zetterberg
Rafalski
Posted by Matt from Chicago on 05/12/08 at 10:05 PM ET
you’re right margot...the way i feel about this team now, i haven’t felt in years. they’re just awesome. knock on wood, but they seem to have stopped cooling off after scoring, or after winning- i’ve seen the term “killer instinct” used by a few people- dead on.
Posted by scheisskopf on 05/12/08 at 10:35 PM ET
Victory is MINE!
Called a Dats hatrick and Rafalski as a star.
All hail the lung loving motorboater!!!
That was indeed an amazing third period shut down; absolutely awe inspiring and stress train derailing. I’d love to see the Penguins try to get around that!
Z and Dats were absolutely phenomenal. Z finally got a chance to repay Dats for all those amazing goals he has set up for him. Beating 4 guys like that though is just humiliating...and sooo awesome.
Does anyone remember, this was a long ago so your memories may be foggy, but Datsyuk scored a goal against Marty Turco once. I think it announced the skinny Russian’s debut.
Rafalski was a defensive and offensive force; although he got tagged once, he avoided so many hits and made so many great plays. He really showed his playoff experience. Awesome.
Ozzie was great; he steadied us when we were running around.
Amazing performance all around.
Solid nods to Helm and, of course, Norris Nick.

Hey all- here’s one more towards 500 and one more win till the SCF!!!
GO WINGS!!!
Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 05/12/08 at 10:42 PM ET
Wowza.
I still cannot believe that was Dat’s first ‘trick. Criminal.
Fantastic road game, The Circus was a force, Dallas has that squeamish, desperate look of the inevitable…
I’ll be back full bore for Weds., preoccupied, yadda, yadda…
Go ‘Wings

Go Wings! Watching this game today was perhaps the best part of my day!
Posted by Alan from Atlanta on 05/12/08 at 10:53 PM ET
Great game, amazing work by Datsyuk and Zetterberg, but perhaps the best part may be yet to come: I can’t wait to see what the “Little Ball of Hate” has to say, or rather write. Here’s to hoping for something as good as the “gutless pig” comment.
Posted by Aphaea from Pennsylvania on 05/12/08 at 10:58 PM ET
Just finished watching the DVR’d game. OutF’ing Amazing.
They took Dallas’ best effort and beat them down in the final 30 minutes. Ozzie continues to be, yes, great. Hank and Dats cannot be controlled by any line and everybody is paying the price.
Plus the Detroit players are not as stupid and not imploding like the Stars are.
I am so proud of this team and organization.

Gordon Lightfoot Tribute to the Stars
At Seven P.M. a main hatchway caved in, he said
Fellas, it’s been good t’know ya
The captain wired in he had water comin’ in
And the good ship and crew was in peril.
And later that night when his lights went outta sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Must...reach...500...posts…
...Just watched the post-game presser with Dats and he looked amusingly uncomfortable. Z answered most of the questions, including “Is this the best you’ve seen Pavel play?” Dats was sitting and tapping his fingers for a little bit, like “umm, excuse me but this was my first ‘trick night.” Z, like a good brother, nodded in affirmation when Pav answered just to let him know he was on track.
I hope these guys get to play their whole career with each other. god, just thinking of that makes me choked up…

makes me think of the Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell days. I remember a time, not so long ago, where many wondered if a young Swede phenom and a young Russian phenom - with not so good English - would “fit” together. will it work? will they gel? maybe they should be split up to make two scoring lines?
I think it’s safe to say those questions have been answered.

A2Y has come a long way in these playoffs!
When the train gets to Pittsburgh, we may need to add a couple cars.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.
