Abel to Yzerman

Back from the dry cleaner’s, writing my packing list for Traverse City

Update time from George.  Barring any complications, I should make the trek to Traverse City sometime on Friday and be at least somewhat settled in by the prospects’ practices on Saturday morning, and I am grateful for and literally indebted to so many of you for your kind contributions that are making my trip possible…

And I honestly have very little idea as to how things will unfold.  From getting my dress clothes pressed at the dry cleaner’s to purchasing my first smart phone, a fancy-schmancy HTC Evo 4G (which I’m still learning how to use—does anybody have some good “app” suggestions?) to trying to figure out how to keep myself fed living on shoestring food budget, and I haven’t planned on spending ten days in a hotel since I went to Germany in high school, so this is a bit of an adventure, to say the least.  Professionally speaking, I’m not sure what form my coverage will take: I’m not quite sure how I’ll format or when I’ll file reports, posts, upload audio interviews, whether the cell phone’s camera is good enough to take pictures, etc. etc.  The Abel to Yzerman and Kukla’s Korner communities have amazingly come together to help me engage in what I can best describe as a, “Go, see, and do” learning experience, and I’ll learn as I go.

I hope that’s okay with everybody.  This will be my first prospect tournament and training camp, and aside from the usual level of professionalism I’ll bring to the equation, I’m certain that you can expect hiccups from time to time because I’ll learn as I go, but I definitely plan on remaining my over-detail-oriented, verbose self, and I hope to learn and improve every day, just like the prospects and players involved.  I’d also welcome suggestions, constructive criticism, a few requests, and questions for the Wings’ prospects and/or management to add to my own.

In any case, I’m going to go on an adventure and I already know that the hardest parts are parallel: first, the prospects practice in the morning (bleh), and I’m no morning person, and, regrettably, I’ll be rooting for the Wings’ prospects, but won’t be allowed to cheer for them in the press box.  Them’s the breaks.  Naps will remedy the former, but I’ll have to figure out the latter.

All the reports from the prospect tournament and training camp will be posted here on KK, most likely on Abel to Yzerman until the new blog gets underway.  Regarding that blog…

The blog still has no real name, though the “Malik Report” seems to have won out over “Malik’s Musings,” “Unbiased, Unprofessional and Verbose,” or anything else (my only idea was “Feathers and Chrome), nor a logo, so I a) would like you to weigh in on the aforementioned names and/or suggest you own and b) If there’s anyone out there with mad Photoshop skills, my idea for a banner (it must be 490 pixels wide by 75 pixels high) would be to superimpose the blog’s name on a certain goaltender’s leg pads, say, in a picture like this…

So if you’re interested, post a comment or send me an email at rtxg at yahoo dot com.  The blog should be up and running sometime around the September 15th, weather permitting.  Okay, maybe not so much on the weather…

That’s the news.  If you’re still interested in the whole donating thing, you can still click here  to send Paypal $ to rtxg at yahoo dot com.  Got most of the hotel covered, but food, not so much.  I hate to ask, but if you’re willing it’s always appreciated.

To this day, that prick is one of two or three people I’d deck on sight if I ever met him face to face. He stole an entire Wings forum from a lot of good people. And I hope someone somewhere has given him what he deserves for that.

Posted by OlderThanChelios on 09/09/10 at 06:45 PM ET

He posted here once a year or two ago and someone told him we will not put up with his blathering here and to just go back where he came from.Never heard another word. wink

Just for fun, I google “attica abel to yzerman”, and a funny thread from ‘06 came up. Lets see some stuff from when I was just a freak brazilian (which I still am, but now I have a nickname):

The Chief gave game recaps;

Who is that coach?  Holland thought he had the best in the business when he hired Babcock.  I say get Barry Smith.  He has coached years beside Bowman, and nobody has given him a chance.

Posted by w2j2 on 11/26/06 at 06:42 PM ET ;

I agree, Datsyuk needs to go. He is not worth the increase in salary and I just pray that Holland does not re-sign him for anything more than his current contract…

I should do these searches more often.

Modano skates with Wings at the Joe.

DETROIT—Mike Modano grew up dreaming of skating at Joe Louis Arena as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. He actually did it Thursday morning.
Modano, the highest scoring American-born player in NHL history with 557 goals and 1,359 points, left the arena as a passenger in Todd Bertuzzi’s SUV. Bertuzzi was one of the Red Wings’ players who Modano knew well and talked to before signing with Detroit.

They complement each other,  Modano’s teeth fill in where Bert’s are missing.

I did, yes, and the glut continues.  How’s that GR roster… Downey, Maltby, Meech….  these guys send 3 people down to Toledo or whatever ECHL franchise we’re associated with.

He (AtTiCa) posted here once a year or two ago and someone told him we will not put up with his blathering here and to just go back where he came from. Never heard another word.

Amen, CN. (Ooooh, that rhymes.) But the reason Prison Boy never came back wasn’t because a few people called him out. Any number of us did that on the Det News forum.

The reason he left was that he discovered he couldn’t dominate the discussion at KK because it wasn’t one linear thread. On Wings Talk, he could stay up all night if need be (as he did almost daily) to make sure his post always appeared at the top of the list.

At KK, he had to post in numerous threads and his post was never at the top. It was always at the bottom (where all new posts appear). I think that was too much for him to deal with. So he went back to Det News where he was some sort of “hero” to folks like wedge56.

All I can say is that when true members of the “19” like you and Kate have at least some degree of the distain for that POS that I do, it’s all I need to know.

Now, let’s all return this thread to the “Adventures of George in T.C.” where it rightfully belongs.

And here’s an offer to you, George. Once you come up with a name for your blog, I’ll be happy to create a banner for you with Howie’s pads as the background. Just post your final name, and I’ll email you the JPEG.

And by “some people” you can only be referring to the infamous and egomaniacal AtTiCa (or however that jackass spelled it). The Det News Forum was, indeed, a great “community” for Wings fans until Prison Guy decided to make it his 24-7-365 job to post a hundred messages a day.

Now THAT is a blast from the past. I remember that guy, too - monopolized everything.

Okay, OTC…feel free to go f*ck yourself now.  I have been posting over on Wings Talk for about five years and in the beginning aTTica was a frequent poster, but I never had any problems with him.  Maybe his “monopolizing” days were before that or whatever or maybe because he wasn’t being a d*ck it didn’t matter to me that he posted copiously.

Never said he was a “hero” to me.  Nice attempt at putting words in my mouth though f*cknut.

Pardon me for noticing he was always polite with me when we disagreed and that I thought he did more to validate his opinions than most.

Can’t a person have a difference of opinion?

You do have the distinction of being the first person on this particular forum to be a c*ckgobbler to me for no apparent reason.  Enjoy your distinction.

aTTica, rarely appears on Wings Talk these days and I agree, it was and still is the best hockey forum I have found so far, but it isn’t as good as it used to be.  If he was the reason you left, feel free to come back and give it another shot.

Could always use the infusion of non-trolls.

As I said, I don’t post over there very often anymore due mostly to far too much monopolizing being done by another poster who shall remain unnamed.

Seriously, I still think the shots of Modano in Camp, which I got from a link on Nightmare on Helm Street, look photoshopped.  It just looks so unnatural.

Apparently not where you’re concerned, wedge56. All I said was that AtTiCa was some sort of “hero” to you. And your response is to tell me to go “f*ck” myself and then you call me a “f*cknut” and a “c*ckgobbler.” Nice.

I actually like the signing of Salei quite a bit, and I know Brad May got clearance from Chelios to wear #24…

But given that Cheli’s now a member of the Wings’ front office and that Probert passed away, I’d assumed that the Wings would at least give the number a “rest” for a season.

I sincerely hope Salei wearing #24 is the single-most divisive thing that happens with the Red Wings this year.

For my two cents, which none of you have asked for, but hey, there’s always room for a couple more pennies up there, just try to relax: I’m not too emotionally tied to #24 to worry about it.  I do own a Wings Chelios jersey, but Salei wearing that won’t weaken Chelios’ or Probert’s legacy.

OTC, yeah and that “hero” statement was completely made up by you, about me…a guy you don’t know from Adam…..you sorta neglected to mention that.  Oh and that the attack on me was completely unwarranted and unprovoked.  Don’t blame me for defending myself and don’t try to rewrite history to try to make yourself look innocent.

I apologize to the rest of the board if I offended.  You OTC…you can still go f*ck yourself.

I am now off this topic.

Via Snapshots: Lindy from RWC is already at the prospect tournament, and the Wings’ prospects are practicing, but the media releases did not indicate that they were practicing till Saturday, and I check into the hotel this afternoon/evening, so…I’ll be there tomorrow.  This practice is very unofficial and is essentially designed to allow the prospects to get used to their gear and pace of play a bit.  I’ll head down to the rink a little before 11 and catch the Wings’ practice and their game at 7 PM.

So freakin awesome!  Finally September.  Finally time for TC in TC!

This just might have been the longest summer of my life (for all the wrong reasons mind you), but now I look at the calendar and not only is hockey season right around the corner, but damnit my son and I will even be in Detroit to catch a couple games next month.

For my money, I’m with JJ on this one.  Salei wearing 24 does nothing at all to diminish Cheli or Probert.  No big thing.

If saying that AtTiCa was some sort of hero to you is an “attack” then you must have really thin skin. (Oh, gosh, I hope “thin skin” isn’t an “attack” phrase).

I made a simple observation about the way you were defending Prison Boy. There was absolutely nothing personal in that statement. But you reacted by resorting to name-calling. I guess you must have learned that approach over at the Det News forum.

But, hey, if it really, really offended you to be thought of as someone who views AtTiCa as a “hero,” then I sure do apologize.

Ah, the problem with telling people to f*** themselves via Red Wings’ internet blogging boards is that when you get to meet them at an H2H event, you realise the person you were insulting is actually a hot, sexy, slender, gorgeous 14 year old boy.

Wait, that can’t be right…

They are doing awesome, JJ thanks for asking.  We are at the point where they sleep through the night now, for the most part.  They are the best thing that ever happened in my life.  I’m sure you’d agree.

As far as the #24,  I don’t think it should be retired for either Probie or Cheli or anything like that, but like GJM says, I think it could have been put out of circulation for a year.  Just to honor a man who was endeared to many a Wing fan including myself.

Fuch, is it October yet?

Anyway, I’m not too happy with #24 being worn right after Probie’s passing, but, it is what it is.
Let’s just hope Salei wears it as tough and as mean as the last two guys that donned the #24. Bitches.

I just read where Sonny Eliot is retiring as of today.  Brings back a lot of memories of wacky weather words and references to “Enga-denga-dinga-dine” Michigan when he did the forecasts.  Another part of “Old Detroit” being relagated to the sidelines as time marches on.  He was a treasure of the Detroit weather scene and will be missed by many.
