Call Ups Won’t Cut It Kenny

The loss? Oh it was bad. The Wings? Yep, they looked like garbage. The level of embarrassment? Pretty frigging high, considering the hockey royalty in attendance and the huge viewing audience.
But, on a grand scale…the loss, and the manner in which it was dished out, wasn’t a huge deal. As new A2Y Gamewrecker, Voox, pointed out…the Wings are just not meant to win at the ACC.
If last night had come in the midst of October’s tailspin? I’d be fetal, considering the opponent. But it stopped a three-game winning streak and it interrupted some good Detroit hockey. A brand of hockey I expect to see return Wednesday when one of the little brothers is on tap for an open-handed slap to the face.
So don’t get all twisted and sick because of one game on a Saturday night (does that ring some sort of sick bell in your head? Was it last year that the Wings couldn’t win on Saturday? Blowouts to Bubba and the BJs I think?).
What you need to focus your nausea on is the fact that this team can’t stay healthy, and that’s a fact.
It’s not going to be goaltending, coaching, assistant coaching, hangovers, officiating, Gary’s continuing agenda or an improved division that poses the greatest threat to the Wings. It’s now health and it’s looking bleak.
The chatter is that Tick Tock’s gonna call up somebody from GR. Malik says it’s gonna be Tardiff, Williams or Newbury.
Me? I’m surprised we didn’t see shots of Ken Holland with a cell phone in each ear within minutes of Willie’s collision with the end boards. In other words, I think a deal will be made. That could mean a trade or a free agent signing. But, and the pharmacists among you can go ahead and correct me or expand on this, I have to think that with all the wounded flesh on the sidelines Tick Tock should have a little room to maneuver.
And that’s what he has to do. Because Jamie Tardiff’s not gonna cut it. Kris Newbury won’t either. Even a guy named “Hat Trick Dick” doesn’t have what we need right now and that’s offense. Instant and consistent. Not hopeful and surprising. Oh, I know. You can’t milk a stone. Well, bitch, maybe you can’t. But Kenny has and Kenny can.
Of course there’s a name out there and it’s sure to come up again. It’s been 28 days since I wrote this...
He’s not coming back. Not for free, not for twenty bucks, or a million or a six pack of Busch. It’s not happening.
Brendan Shanahan will never play for the Red Wings again.
That was before a wrist and an ankle and the easy talk of Tardiff and Newbury. It might be time to start thinking about bringing back a vet who knows how to score. No matter how impossible that prospect used to be. Circumstances have a way of softening grudges. It might be time to cue up the Irish Jig again.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
