Bill asked me (Paul) to put up a post for the game tonight.

He called me from Ann Arbor at about 3:45pm today, sounded depressed, wonder why?

Well, at least the Habs are going with their #1 goalie tonight.  Maybe the Wings will pull out a win, eh.

Here is something to cheer about anyway.  ND loses to U Conn in O/T.

I’m ticked the Habs aren’t wearing their good jerseys but their Leaf throwbacks.

Detroit is red and white, Leafs are blue and white, Canadiens are bleu blanc et rouge.  None of those teams should ever f*** with their colors.

Montreal should NOT look like the Minnesota Wild.  :(

Ferris state University (big rapids, MI) beat the buckeyes in hockey last night 8-1. The Bulldogs Captain had a hatrick. Hope that helps the Blue feelings today.

Heh.  I don’t have any particular ties to UM or MSU or any other large university in the state, so I don’t really care what they do sports-wise.  Especially since I don’t follow football anyway.

I take it the Wolverines lost to coach Smarty-Pants McSweaterVest again?

(Although I do giggle when they lose to a major underdog.)  smile

Miss B, both UM lost badly.  MSU not looking good at all.

That’s too bad for the people who follow those universities.

MSU is guaranteed a bowl game, though, aren’t they?  I think there was some doubt about it at the beginning of the season, so that is good news.

And doesn’t UMich have a young quarterback?  Inexperience at that position is always dangerous.

I am having a bad weekend of sports…
The Wings last night, UM lost today (5 turnovers!) MSU getting stomped.
UM hockey beat by Bowling Green (5 straight losses).
My mother told me there would be weekends like this….
Go WINGS!
big surprise

HNIC is rolling. Here’s hoping us in Detroit get the Wings feed and not TOR. Kelly Hrudy thinks Price is back and will be strong. But he’s also giving credit to Howard, and thinks he’s a battler now.

In an unrelated topic, I’ve gotta choose a starter for my fantasy team, anybody wanna weigh in? Choices are:
1 -Ray Emmery and PHI against PHO coming off a loss to SJ last nite.
2 - Johnas Hiller and ANA fresh against those same SJ sharks. But so far as I know, Hiller’s start is unconfirmed.

Start Emery for sure.  The Ducks are god awful so far this year, and while Hiller is good, I’m sure the Sharks are looking to absolutely murder the Ducks this year any time they cross paths because of the playoffs last year.  Highly unlikely you get a win out of Hiller, and in my league letting in 3 goals sucks, dunno how it works in yours but I would expect him to let in more than that.

On another note, evening bitches.  Faux the Buckeyes.

The Duck’s are pretty inconsistent.  Philly pretty good, and PHX have started to slide after their scorching start.

Thanks Kate - - you know, after we win tonight, a small determined sect of the 19 will be lobbying for you to assume musical selection duties.

Of course if disaster hits, there will be questions.

I’m from the Montreal area originally, and I can assure you that the “H” stands for “Hice.”

See the logo in the middle of the rink? That’s Center Hice.

Here:

Question: Why are the Montreal Canadiens called the Habs?

Answer: Habs is an abbreviation of “les habitants,” the informal name given to the original settlers of New France, dating back to the 17th Century. So it’s a natural fit for the The Montreal Canadiens, established in 1909 and marketed as a French-Canadian hockey team.

Having said that, the nickname might have been the result of an error. According to NHL.com, the first man to refer to the team as “the Habs” was Tex Rickard, owner of Madison Square Garden, in 1924. Rickard apparently told a reporter that the “H” on the Canadiens’ sweaters was for “Habitants.” Not true. The distinctive C-wrapped-around-H logo stands for “Club de Hockey Canadien.”
