Will Scotty Bowman help the Hawks? Absolutely. How could he not? Will Chicago pose more of a threat due to his knowledge of the Wings? Maybe.
Does it matter, in the grand scheme of things?
Not when you consider that it would appear he took the job for a pretty damn good reason.
Good luck Scotty. Thanks for ending 42 years of frustration. And thanks for doing it again. And again. Oh, and again.

Thanks, Scott Bowman! You’ve been nothing but a real help to the Ilitches and to the City of Detroit and to all Wingnuts all over the world.
Best of luck with the ‘Hawks…just not against the Wings, man.

Once again, Scotty, thanks for the memories, and good luck- but not too good- in Chicago.
Best Wishes to you and your family.
P.S.- I’m thinking the real reason Scotty’s gone to Chicago is he missed watching The Magic That Is Robert Lang so badly- eight times a year wasn’t enough!!!

It is hard for me to wish anyone in Chicago luck, but I wish Scotty the best life has to offer, Thanks a ton you will be missed. The master of manipulation.

This is the last year of his contract - we will know for sure if he is re-signed to another.

Thank you Scotty. Your wisdom, guidance, knowledge and hard ass ways re-established the greatness of one of the Original Six. You will be very much missed by the 19 of us & the Wing Nation. Best of luck to you and best wishes to you, Suella and the kids.
I’ve often wondered whom of the Brain Trust would be the first to move on or retire. No more wondering….

Scotty saw things on the ice that few others did and knew how to exploit it.
Uncle Mike - In Babcock We Trust.
Thank you Scotty, you’ve helped create what the Red Wings are today, the best run organ-I-zation in the NHL and one of the best 2 or 3 in all of North American sports.

STUNNED
If family health troubles were the reason, all the best to you Scotty. If you wanted a challenge, may I suggest helping a Lidstrom-less Wings.
So, here is the thing. I was at his last Cup parade where he said several times that he was “A Wing for Life.” (Hasek, being him, said the same thing after playing those two years…grrr)
I wouldn’t discount the possibility of Scotty returning to the Wings in a few years.
Papa…come back Papa…

Check out the flash gallery George has linked. Look at the picture with Bowman and his son Stan(ley); it’ll break and warm your heart.

I wouldn’t discount the possibility that Scotty essentially says what people want to hear when speaking to the public, except when there’s an ulterior motive aimed at a player/opposing team, etc. He saves being blunt for his players and cohorts with whatever team he’s with.
I hope you’re right, but the guy is 75 years old. Especially considering the family ties in Chicago, I’d be shocked if he ever returns to the Wings. As referred to above, I think he’ll get hired as Bettman’s replacement before he comes back to Detroit.

WARNING: OFF TOPIC (but extremely funny):
On Russo’s Minnesota Wild blog (this post: http://ww3.startribune.com/blogs/wildblog/2008/07/30/parrish-clears-waivers/), there seems to be an ongoing “debate” about the importance of the Wild to have local boys to maintain fan support and bring in new fans (a few ignoramuses spouting off while everyone else is hoping that Marian Gaborik gets extended, essentially).
And this was the best response by far:
AustinTXwildfan says:

” SO IF THE MINNESOTA PRO TEAM DOES NOT HAVE ANY PRO PLAYERS FROM MINNESOTA, THAT IS A SLAP IN THE FACE ? no doubt. I cant see how anybody cant see the point”
This makes NO SENSE. Having no players from MN is not a slap in the face. People that believe that should be knocked unconscious with a wiffleball bat and then be taken advantage of by those flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz.
If you want to watch MN born players playing in MN just watch college hockey.
I think that should also be the sentence for people who keep talking about “too many Swedes” on Detroit.

Let’s hope he doesn’t end the frustration in Chicago at our expense.

Thanks for everything, Scotty. You gave me one of the happiest sports moments of my life, that which was seeing The Captain skate his victory lap with the Cup in ‘97 (missing front left incisor and all). Best wishes to you and your family, but certainly not to the Hawks.

Exactly, but there is a decent chance of that happening.

Great add to the starboard side. I’m not surprised by this. Scotty is brilliant, and needs to be challenged. Its the same thing that worries me about Kenny. It sucks, but when its all said and done, the Wings will not only survive, but continue to dominate.
