Hugely important evening in our world.
The gutters have been overflowing the last few weeks with your obscenity and grade-school humor. How could a family-oriented, well-intentioned, mild-mannered hockey blog turn into something so immature, so reeking of juvenistickidness?
I just don’t know.
Tonite, you begin the process of electing your champion. Watch the remarks closely, stay awake, don’t pass out drooling on your keyboard (Osrt)...and make your recommendations along the way for the five comments we’ll vote on tomorrow.
It’s a Live Blog bitches. A big, fat, west coast live blog.

Nice segment on big hits. Too bad we haven’t seen anything that consistent since last year’s playoffs. Kronner looked a little jacked up at the end of the 2nd so maybe he’ll come out gunning in the 3rd.

that sucks that a nice Michigander like Drew Miller has to play for a shitty Wings wannabe team…THE WINGS CAN FLY AND THE DUCKS WILL NEVER LEAVE THE GROUND!

Is it a problem that I feel more confident going into the third with the Wings down a goal than when they’re up a goal? Not always but it sure seems they come to play more often when they’re down…

Gramps you know that if Conklin starts the third we’ve got ourselves a full fledged goalie controversy.

I believe earlier this year I said something along the lines of “I hate when I hate when we have a lead headed into the 3rd”. When we play from behind at least we show desperation the last 5 minutes of the 3rd.

I sure hope so.

This would mean that Khan(!) is going to report tomorrow that Babs is going to a period-by-period rotation.

What’s up ckittle from Durham?

Anybody else sick of the “NHL CenterIce” commercial with the Pens fan in his hand-built jackatoreum?

Babs is going to a period-by-period rotation.
Does that mean Wing netminders each have their own V?
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 01/14/09 at 11:53 PM ET
i love it that gary’s baby boy and his sad sack team got thrashed by the Caps tonight! haha Ovie is the friggin man! I hope Shitney is out for a while!
Posted by yzer19man from Chicago, IL on 01/14/09 at 11:53 PM ET
Period by period? That is how some teams with V formations might CYCLE their goalies, but whether their on their period or not, they better stop the frigging biscuit from getting in their hole. Dammit, this is getting ridiculous!!!!

Evening all….

WingsFanInBeanLand,
Just enjoying the last few days of my winter break at home in North Conway. I go to school down at UNH….where in NH are you from?
Is a hooking call ever going to go our way?
Posted by ckittle from Durham, New Hampshire on 01/14/09 at 11:55 PM ET
Stayed on side somehow? Looked like somehow was the linesman missing that one
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 01/14/09 at 11:55 PM ET

Dovah. I work @ UNH.

North Conway.
I used to make runs to a umm…..“pipe” shop there in high school….. small world.
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 01/14/09 at 11:57 PM ET
Evidently, Stewie needs to go see Pavel’s doctor and get his 3rd eye checked.
Posted by clemshady from Greenwood, SC on 01/14/09 at 11:59 PM ET
Did I hear “let’s go red wings” faintly, or that my forzen head again?
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 01/14/09 at 11:59 PM ET
Stuart’s offensive ineptitude might have just cost the Wings a goal.

I think that’s the Village Cigar Emporium right downtown.

Hossa burst of speed. Or a slight breeze on his back.
Posted by WingsFanInBeanLand from Lidstrom's head telling him 1 more year on 01/15/09 at 12:00 AM ET
aside from that last chance, the Wings seem to be wasting their up-ice rushes and possession in the offensive zone.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 01/15/09 at 12:01 AM ET
Village Cigar Emporium
Is that what you youngsters are calling it these days?
Posted by calquake on 01/15/09 at 12:02 AM ET
Cklittle, that’s just funny. I think the last time I was there was ‘92.
I do drive by once in awhile when I fly into Manchester when I visit home in Vermont.

Sweet…horrible call, but that’s the best Stuart’s looked all night. Addaboy Stewie!
Posted by The Hurricane on 01/15/09 at 12:04 AM ET
wow, a phantom call goes the Wings’ way! amazing!
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 01/15/09 at 12:04 AM ET
So, the goalie can pass the puck through the outside of the trapezoid and not be called for a penalty, or no? Because that looked a lot like the other night in Dallas when Ozzie got called for it. Must be a subjective penalty.
Posted by clemshady from Greenwood, SC on 01/15/09 at 12:04 AM ET
Is the crowd booing the penalty or the fact that Ozzy played the puck through the no-go zone behind the goal line?
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 01/15/09 at 12:05 AM ET
one of our former presidents used a V for a Cigar Emporium…
Posted by aaron from phoenix on 01/15/09 at 12:05 AM ET
nice little display of puckhandling skills there…with nothing to show for it.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 01/15/09 at 12:05 AM ET
Ozzie is a 3 gpg guy this year. If that doesn’t change by deadline Tick Tock may have to make a move.
Bingo - Bango. I can’t see Holland too comfortable with the prospects of Conklin being a starter in the post season. Malts may be expendable for cap space.
Red Wings Payroll (with Maltby)
2008-2009 Actual Payroll: $ 56,260,000
2008-2009 Salary Cap Payroll: $ 56,322,777
2008-2009 Cap Space: $ 377,223
2008-2009 Adjusted Cap Space (after 43 games): $ 575,035
Maltby’s salary: $883,333
Maltby’s adjusted salary (43 games): $1,346,544.21
Maltby’s buyout salary cap hit: $588,888.67
Cleary’s salary: $2,800,000
Cleary’s adjusted salary (43 games): $4,268,292.68
Contracts can be bought out for two-thirds of the remaining value for players over the age of 26, and one-third of the remaining value for players under 26.
Buying out Maltby makes sense and I think if we need to Tick Tock should try and move Cleary if the goalie situation doesn’t improve. Moving Cleary would be a first for Tick Tock as IIRC he has never traded someone with more than a year left on their contracts who wanted to stay on the team. Desperate times may call for desperate measures. I’m down like Charlie Brown over getting real goaltending in Detroit.
I honestly see more upside in Hudler than Cleary and would keep Oompa Loompa over Charlie Buckets on the team. <ducking the projectile IwoCPO throws this way>

Clem, I think Ozy wasnt called cause the ref was on the opposite side of the net. But yeah, got away with one.
Thank you Cleary

Holy $h!t…don’t know if I’m more surprised by the goal or Meech being back!
Bonus 2 for 1.

Yes Buckets. You poor little rich of character boy from the streets who found the golden ticket right there in the slot and popped in right next to grandpa joe, that lazy old *#$%@&. time to get up joe! time to head to the factory.

Cleary looked like Hossa there. unbelievable move to get out of the traffic, find the open ice, and rip it high.
