Hugely important evening in our world.
The gutters have been overflowing the last few weeks with your obscenity and grade-school humor. How could a family-oriented, well-intentioned, mild-mannered hockey blog turn into something so immature, so reeking of juvenistickidness?
I just don’t know.
Tonite, you begin the process of electing your champion. Watch the remarks closely, stay awake, don’t pass out drooling on your keyboard (Osrt)...and make your recommendations along the way for the five comments we’ll vote on tomorrow.
It’s a Live Blog bitches. A big, fat, west coast live blog.

And if you pro-rate his salary, it’s nothing really just for Shannys shot on a PP if nothing else at that price.

Lol…Fil got away with delay of game there
Also lucky he didn’t lose an eye.

Considering the season is half-over does Shanny’s salary get prorated as a $1.6M cap hit?

Or is it 1/2 of the 800K?

other way around. he’s getting paid $800K per year, so you cut it in half since the season is half over.

As a payment pro-rating, his salary comes out to $380,487 for the rest of the season.

Posted by yzer19man from Chicago, IL on 01/15/09 at 12:27 AM ET

Posted by clemshady from Greenwood, SC on 01/15/09 at 12:27 AM ET
No call on Kunitz, keep that in mind in these final minutes.
Posted by DetroitHockey on 01/15/09 at 12:27 AM ET
wow datsyuk…shades of that fedorov goal in the playoffs a while back? don’t remember specifics but it was a one handed deflection
Posted by ckittle from Durham, New Hampshire on 01/15/09 at 12:28 AM ET
Apparently free hand tackles are legal on a Red Wing with less than 3 to go in the 3rd when we’re ahead
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 01/15/09 at 12:28 AM ET
Wow, nice no call and Pavel still nearly converts.
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 01/15/09 at 12:28 AM ET
how in the HELL do they not call that BLATANT hold?!
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 01/15/09 at 12:28 AM ET
My V gets tight when they pull the goalie. Need to get that checked.

Moving a player with an $800,000 salary 43 games in is like moving a player with a $1,219,512.20 salary to the club right now.

no that .8 mil is for the entire season, Cap hit is something like 400,000, and that is all Shanny gets.

Ozzzzziiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats how I read it too HTT. If thats true, thats a deal for Shanny. Look at what we play Mac, Downey….
Posted by MOWingsfan19 on 01/15/09 at 12:30 AM ET
Ozzie made the save that mattered. Typhoon-class submarinic save with 40 seconds or so left.
Posted by DetroitHockey on 01/15/09 at 12:30 AM ET
Dats was tripped and Ozy with another Mastadonic save. He’s racking those things up….wanted that empty net too.
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 01/15/09 at 12:30 AM ET
WOW WHAT A HELL OF A SAVE!!! I was holding my breath for that whole minute and a half there! what an amazing game! GO WINGS!!!
Posted by yzer19man from Chicago, IL on 01/15/09 at 12:30 AM ET
did anyone else’s heart stop as that Pronger shot headed toward Osgood? yikes.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 01/15/09 at 12:30 AM ET
Perry thought he was a goalscorer and got punked by Oz
Posted by Rumbear from Top O da Hasek, sippin rum & catchin some rays on 01/15/09 at 12:31 AM ET
what an unbelievable save by ozzie.
by the way, the sasquatch outdoes himself in idiocy with the wonderful decision to take a 100 ft shot with more than 12 seconds left and time for on quick final rush.
great game, go wings!
Posted by ckittle from Durham, New Hampshire on 01/15/09 at 12:31 AM ET
So there was a game we should have won 4-1 that we had to squeak out. I’ll take it though.
Goodnight bitches.
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 01/15/09 at 12:32 AM ET
Is that right? Wings are 4-11 for the last 15 on the Duckpond.
Posted by HockeyTownTodd on 01/15/09 at 12:32 AM ET
Thank God that’s over with. I’ll sleep well tonight, at least.
Night, Bitches.

Night all. Big win. I can post tomorrow and you all know what would have happened if we lost…

I guess that’s enough for now. Still wary after the Dallas game, but it was a pretty good effort.
Posted by Tyler from Arizona on 01/15/09 at 12:33 AM ET
So after giving up 15 SOG in the first, wings only allow 12 in the next 2 periods, 4 of which came in that last 90 second empty net flurry.
At least they buckled down.
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 01/15/09 at 12:33 AM ET
im sleeping well tonight baby! What a great game…this should give us some momentum for a while

Tough game, do they have anything left for tomorrow night?

His salary to the team will be $380,487.
If a player were already signed to a team and was lost to injury or traded away, with an $800,000 salary there would be a cap hit relief of $1,219,512.20 this far into the season (43 games). Which means we could sign someone today whose salary at the beginning of the season would have put us over the cap.
At least that is how the math works in my inebriated skull. I’m sure a someone will correct me (with glee) if I am out of line.

They’ll have just enough to blow a three goal lead in the 3rd period.
Posted by Alzy from Innisfail, Alberta, Canada on 01/15/09 at 12:40 AM ET
Hmmm… math not computing on my larger numbers. I usually just pro-rate the salary paid to see if it fits under the cap.
Shanahan’s salary is accurate. The larger cap hits for Maltby and Cleary are courtesy the intoxicants and should not be considered true and just… using that math won’t build ships that float.
To calculate a pro-rated salary use this formula:
Salary (in $) x (1 - (n/82))
where n is the number of games played in the season.
I hate math when I am drinking and watching hockey, how the hell did I fall into that hole? I am outta here, see you all in a while.
