Pepe Lopez cannot keep me down. Wings/Caps live blog here. I’d point you to the Caps blogs, but there are 273 of them. Unbelievable. See them all here at Japers’ Rink blog roll.

Versus feed on NHL TV here. For the convenience of those with no TV in the computer room or vice versa.

Gabriel,
It seems to get worse with every broadcast. It probably scares prospective fans away.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/17/07 at 07:09 PM ET
Andreas Lee-lee-uh, eh? Nice, Versus.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/17/07 at 07:14 PM ET
I know I’m not the first to say it...but looking at Brian Engblom’s hair just makes me uncomfortable.
Downright scary.

Welcome back Homer!
Welcome to the Joe, Olie!
Posted by cementslinger from Midland MI on 12/17/07 at 07:18 PM ET
Almost three consecutive goals against scored by the Wings. Fun stuff.

I don’t think it’s hair. I think it’s a road-killed squirrel he found in a gutter and wears like a hat.
Great, Joe Beninati (sp) - I’ll be wearing out the mute button whenever I get tired of his voice.

i take that back. Good play by Lebda.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/17/07 at 07:21 PM ET
Too bad Ellis was at the end of a shift there…
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/17/07 at 07:24 PM ET
Lidstrom seems to be moving up on the rush more than he usually does.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/17/07 at 07:25 PM ET
Well, there goes yet another dumbass IwoCPO prediction down the drain. Note to self: quit wasting time on research.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/17/07 at 07:29 PM ET
Ah well. How realistic was it to expect them to shut Ovechkin down completely?
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/17/07 at 07:30 PM ET
Is it me or did AO kinda resemble Ricci?
Posted by cementslinger from Midland MI on 12/17/07 at 07:31 PM ET
Even less realistic after I predicted it Matthew. I’m 1 for 19. The only thing I’ve gotten right in two years was the Bertuzzi trade last year.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/17/07 at 07:32 PM ET
We don’t use chicky nicknames like “ovie” here Sports Chick. Unless we’re referring to Paul Kariya, AKA “Sally”.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/17/07 at 07:33 PM ET
Hey, I was hoping they’d keep him out of the game, too. That was just an unfortunate play. He’s got his one point, let’s hope that’s it.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/17/07 at 07:34 PM ET
The Caps are doing a good job of clogging up center. The Wings have to make 100% accurate outlet passes to get anything going, it seems.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/17/07 at 07:38 PM ET
Andreas Lee-lee-uh, eh? Nice, Versus.
I thought it was a one time thing...no such luck. There should be a man-rule against calling another man Leelee.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/17/07 at 07:40 PM ET
God damn it - “efforting” is not a word!
Somebody get me an icepick. Grrr…
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/17/07 at 07:41 PM ET
Verbing weirds language, eh Baroque?
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/17/07 at 07:42 PM ET
Tell me every single one of you didn’t know for certain during the 13 second flight of that puck that it would end up exactly where it did.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/17/07 at 07:46 PM ET
I’m going to throw something kinda radical out at you guys...do you think that maybe...and yes, this is a crazy idea...do you think maybe we can stop scoring on ourselves?
Consider it an early Christmas present to me.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/17/07 at 07:46 PM ET
English has many words and a tremendous capacity for metaphor without using the wrong freaking words with incorrect meanings.
Another flukey goal.

By the way, Baroque...in looking again, I don’t think it’s a squirrel. It’s kinda beaver, or maybe platypus shaped.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/17/07 at 07:48 PM ET
The Caps won that period, even without the goals. The Wings are taking a win for granted, while Washington is putting for the effort they need to stage an upset.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/17/07 at 07:49 PM ET
not a clue, Chief… not a clue.
Gabriel, do you know just what you’re asking? Ya might as well wish for Iran to stop their Nukes. Or even less, ask for the Lions to win just one more game this year.

Seriously, Baroque, you shouldn’t let it effectify you to such a extensious degree.

Maybe a blonde raccoon? I’m trying to think of what would have the right color.
(I don’t like Chris Simpson, either. Stupid versus.) :(
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/17/07 at 07:52 PM ET
What’s wrong with “efforting?” It’s a perfectly cromulent word.
Posted by DC Sports Chick on 12/17/07 at 07:53 PM ET
Ovechkin looks like a serial killer.

If I wasn’t in Michigan, I’d smack you one.
Smartass.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/17/07 at 07:54 PM ET
HA. DC Sports Chick wins with the Simpsons reference.
Matt, couldn’t agree more about taking the game for granted. But we knew that was going to happen.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/17/07 at 07:55 PM ET
I’m here, I’m watching, and can’t think of anything to say except VERSUS STILL SUCKS
Posted by HockeyTownTodd from upset when blogs don’t live up to my expectations on 12/17/07 at 08:00 PM ET
I heard there was a hockey game on Versus, but all I’m seeing is a commercial marathon. A plethura, if you will, of ads.
Posted by cementslinger from Midland MI on 12/17/07 at 08:04 PM ET
On the off chance that we’ve all been pronouncing it wrong, I looked it up: it’s “LIHL-yah.” This “Lee-lee-uh” crap has to stop.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/17/07 at 08:07 PM ET
“plethora”
So, with the deflection, Holmstrom has two goals in his first game back.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/17/07 at 08:09 PM ET
Hmm. Am I the only one who forgot Kronwall wasn’t on IR?
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/17/07 at 08:12 PM ET
Am I the only one who has never heard this before?
“skating a man to the good”
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/17/07 at 08:12 PM ET
my bad… I guess if I am going to chime in with an occasional “smart” word, I should at least spell it correctly, eh?!
Posted by cementslinger from Midland MI on 12/17/07 at 08:14 PM ET
I missed that one, Matt. But sounds almost like someone was giving someone else the business.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/17/07 at 08:15 PM ET
Washington looks a hell of a lot better than we were led to believe. Somebody’s playing tricks and I don’t find them the least bit amusing.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/17/07 at 08:15 PM ET
I think Joe Benniboyinatti was sexually stimulated when he just described Ovechkin as breathless.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/17/07 at 08:17 PM ET
Don’t get me started again, Matt.
Great - now Ovechkin gets to be badgered by Blondie right in the middle of the game.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

How Others View The A2Y 19
"Hell, I guarantee the content co-opters at Abel to Yzerman were about to link this article under the heading “Bitter Blues Fans” again right up until they just read that last half-sentance. Thanks but no thanks, you Kukla hangers-on."
--St. Louis Game Time
"I realize it’s the slow summer season, but can this guy tone down the tough-guy histrionics? His posts are fatiguing on an otherwise excellent site."
--A2Y Fan, Eternal_Fields
"I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season."
--Mile High Hockey
"I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…"
--In The Cheap Seats
"It's just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don't deserve their team."
--Thhom
"I really don’t care what fans or bloggers think."
--Drew Sharp
"Why is it you Detroit fans are still so classless when you have such a classy hockey team, with such a professional GM and gentlemen players? I understand that the author of this blog is a manner-less cad, but the rest of you should be better."
--A2Y Fan, Jeff Beaumont
"Have you ever *read* A2Y? Its the most opinionated, juvenile stuff i've read."
--Paul Nicholson
"I actually like the Detroit team and have a sh&% load of respect for them, but their fans are the biggest douches next to Canadians."
--KStewy, PensBlog Commenter
"Just when it looks like we have bottomed out, the 19 hit a new low."
-A2Y legend, Hockeytown Todd
"And for the record, I don't hate the Red Wings, I hate their fans."
--Douche Bag at Puck Daddy who isn't Wyshynski
"You’re nothing but a douchebag ****, c3po. Go f**k yourself, and learn something about hockey in the process. Nothing ruins my day more than seeing your byline on the kk page."
--Hector, A2Y fan, statesman, Pittsburgh Chapter of Jonas Brothers Fan Club President
"I can just imagine the kindergarten teacher’s reaction when the tyke blurts out 'Mommy says Gary Bettman is a f*cking f*ckface! He wants to give ‘Rosby the bad touch.' ”
