Gary’s Gonna LOVE This

Thanks to Ken Campbell at The Hockey News for pointing this gem out.

You know the flagship network here in the states?  Versus?  Are you wondering what game they’re airing on New Year’s Eve?  Of course you are.  Let me help.

Dammit!  As if we don’t have enough trouble with St. Louis and the BJs.  Now Gary’s gone ahead and combined them as some sort of anti-Wing conspiracy?  Good god. How will we stop the Nash/Tkachuk/Kariya line?

Campbell puts it very well…

Yup, this is the NHL’s main network in the U.S.

And the hits just keep on comin’.

Not seeing Mickey in his traditional New Year’s Eve Plaid Tux is a heartbreaking proposition.

Does this mean that Fox sports is iced out of another Red Wings game?

Just a typo.  It will be QUIETLY changed like OTHER items by the pro’s

If teams are merging, fair’s fair - Detroit gets to borrow Ottawa to play against the St. Louis Blue Jackets.

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom, Alfredsson-Spezza-Heatley, etc.

Speaking of the Central...I need a segue..

The Hawks were one of a number of teams rumored to be interested in Schneider’s services.

To make room for Scott Niedermayer. Sucks to be Schneids. I would be deeply annoyed if he went to Chicago, not because they seem to have our number but simply because it would so unoriginal. I mean, Chicago needs to stop being a collection of ex-Wings and get their own....oh what’s the word....LIFE.

This is all part of the same conspiracy as the St. Louis Post-Dispatch posting a story on their website last summer about Craig Leipold selling the Columbus Blue Jackets to Jim Balsille. Hmm.

We’re through the looking glass here, folks.

The NHL actually wanted to renegotiate the transfer agreement because they feel that they’re paying too much money to Sweden, Finland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, et. al. for players that generally end up in the AHL.  It’s bloody silly as nobody is happy.

The Wings tend to have good relationships with European teams (see: the clause in Johan Ryno’s contract that said, “Okay, if you’re not comfortable here, you can go home, you’re still under contract with us, but we’re cool with you being 20 and homesick"), so I’d imagine that the Wings will push hard to sign Dick Axelsson and Daniel Larsson to deals that have provisions allowing them to continue to play for Djurgardens until they crack the Wings’ rosters in some way, shape, or form.

I think that it’s possible, depending on the Wings’ “fifty-man roster” situation, that the Wings will try to sign the two before the Swedes pull out of the agreement in January, and possibly Andersson as well, but, as stated, they tend to get along pretty well with European teams, so I would imagine that they’ll tread delicately so as to not piss off one of the Swedish Elite League’s powerhouses.

Also: I think that the Wings should be allowed to form a one-time unholy union with the Blackhawks so that Mike Babcock can grumble about Jason Williams being on the IR with another groin injury, Brent Sopel can leave right before the game to sign a contract with a Russian Superleague team, and Babs can bench Robert Lang one more time, asking him where exactly his testes were hidden in his belongings, and how he found them when he moved…

I’d vote for the merger with the Hawks just for the excitement of watching Lapointe lose games for us by taking stupid penalties near the end of the 3rd.

ummmm....he started his career there, but came to Detroit from Chicago.  You know, captain and all, won the Norris with Chicago, took them to the Cup Finals his first season there, .

Okay, okay, but I’m TRYING to engage in a willful suspension of disbelief.  Washed-up Wings go to Chicago.  That’s the natural order of things and the way of the universe.  Everything else is reality playing tricks on me.

And he won his first Norris with Montreal, and captained them, and won his first Cup with them (though not in concurrent seasons).  Do I get partial credit?

Besides, there are no Cheli’s Chilis in Chicago anymore.  Two in Detroit.

Norris trophies, Stanley Cups and the captaincy mean nothing when put next to Cheli’s Chili.

Get your priorities and facts straight Paul. Jeez. You would hope that only people who know hockey would come to this place.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

"I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season."
--Mile High Hockey

"I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…"
--In The Cheap Seats

"It's just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don't deserve their team."
--Thhom

"I really don’t care what fans or bloggers think."
--Drew Sharp

"Why is it you Detroit fans are still so classless when you have such a classy hockey team, with such a professional GM and gentlemen players? I understand that the author of this blog is a manner-less cad, but the rest of you should be better."
--A2Y Fan, Jeff Beaumont

"Have you ever *read* A2Y? Its the most opinionated, juvenile stuff i've read."

"I can just imagine the kindergarten teacher’s reaction when the tyke blurts out 'Mommy says Gary Bettman is a f*cking f*ckface! He wants to give ‘Rosby the bad touch.' ”
