About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

“Hell, I guarantee the content co-opters at Abel to Yzerman were about to link this article under the heading “Bitter Blues Fans” again right up until they just read that last half-sentance. Thanks but no thanks, you Kukla hangers-on.”
--St. Louis Game Time

“I realize it’s the slow summer season, but can this guy tone down the tough-guy histrionics? His posts are fatiguing on an otherwise excellent site.”
--A2Y Fan, Eternal_Fields

“I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season.”
--Mile High Hockey

“I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…”
--In The Cheap Seats

“It’s just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don’t deserve their team.”
--Thhom

“I really don’t care what fans or bloggers think.”
--Drew Sharp

“Why is it you Detroit fans are still so classless when you have such a classy hockey team, with such a professional GM and gentlemen players?  I understand that the author of this blog is a manner-less cad, but the rest of you should be better.”

Hypothetically Speaking

If you’re wondering, based on no bias or jinxability whatsoever, when the Finals may start?  John Niyo’s got your answer.

Sounds like the earliest possible date for Game 1 would be a week from today—May 20. But the Flyers will have something to say about that tonight. Figure May 22, May 24 and probably May 27 as the other possible start dates, depending on how long the East finals—and the West, I suppose—last.

Now let’s go ahead and get frigging crazy and pretend the Wings beat down Dallas one more time tomorrow.  Now let’s pretend Philly has more heart at home than we’ve seen from them in Pittsburgh.  May 20th is a Tuesday, the earliest possible start date.  Based on my success in various astronomy courses, I’m saying the 22nd is a Thursday.

C’mon Flyers.  Win one game.  That’s all I’m asking.  Because if you do?  Game 2 is Saturday the 24th in Hockeytown.

Which is exactly where I’ll be you bastards.  Wings go to the Finals?  So too will the Chief.  I’m telling you right now.  I’m heading north, but only if one of the games falls on a weekend.  Hell, I may even go to Pittsburgh too.

Another reason we need the ECF extended a bit?  It would be kinda cool to see Franzen back in the lineup, eh?

Anyone heard any news on the “tests”?  Anyone?  Hello?

Chief, I think Little Gary may actually be able to help you make that trip.  You know for a fact that he’ll want to have one of the first 2 games on NBC, which will likely mean a Saturday afternoon game.  You’ll get your wish I think.

I cant find anything Chief, but according to Helene St. James at the FREEP, an an article posted Monday, Holland said:

“I know he saw doctors today,” general manager Ken Holland said Monday evening. “I haven’t heard any results.”

DAMN SLOW RESULTS if you ask me.

Sadly, I believe Little Gary has already had that say. I think Vs gets the first three games and NBC get the next four (assuming they are needed).
NBC has had this:

up since the first round (bottom of page). Shows Cup game 3 on May 31. Thanks Gary. Ass.

The club has confirmed that Franzen will sit Game 4.  The results are not back yet, but with a 3-0 series lead, the club appears to not be taking any risks.

Leave it to “The HighLander” to bring the news; albeit bad news:

Johan Franzen won’t play in Game 4 of the Western Conference final. When he returns to the ice is still unknown.

THe NHL’s leading goal-scorer in the playoffs had tests, Monday, because of concussion-like symptoms ... headaches. General manager Ken Holland said that the tests found nothing that needed treatment.

But Franzen’s headaches persist, so he’ll have to rest until they subside. He’s not able to work on conditioning (bike, etc) right now.

No Franzen in game 4.

The Dats / Z show will be enough though.  Wings in 4!

I’m still waiting on the paternity tests for Draper and Chuck Norris.

If the TV schedule for this year’s finals is anything like previous VS/NBC years, VS. will carry games 1&2;, and NBC will show (unless there’s a 3% chance of rain, in which case your local station will interrupt the game with constant WEATHER ALERT! OMG! WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE! IT’S RAINING MEN! updates) games 3&4;.

The prospect of actually being in Detroit for a SCF game is…

F****** AWESOME.

Now all I need is a couple hundred bucks for a SRO seat…
wink

No real info on the tests, but the guys picking on the size of the Mule’s dome is a decent sign…
Maybe the Mule caught the “FLU” from eating some Turkey to start the series.....

This has been up on NBC since the first round. They have Game 3 scheduled for May 31. Could be one heck of a layoff.

considering he missed game 3, and will miss game 4...if the Wings go on to sweep and win the Cup, think it would hurt his MVP chances even if he comes back and plays just as well in the finals?

Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach  on  05/13  at  03:41 PM

Cup Finals start on May 27th. Everything else has been put together around that date. Those dates will not change.

If true, and the Wings sweep DAL tomorrow, that means they’ll be off for 12 days.

I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Bill, NBC wants to keep the Stanley Cup Finals outside of the May sweeps period (when advertisers increase their dollars for season finales) so they will likely not be able to start the series any earlier then May 21-22, to give NBC a post-sweeps start date of May 26.

If both series go to 5 games, however, we’ll be having a week-long break between series.

Oh *#$%@&, I’m seeing a play in Philadelphia on the 27th.  And I’ll bet anything that the hotel doesn’t have Versus.  Is anyone familiar enough with Philadelphia to recommend a sports bar?  The play’s at Wilma Theater, 265 South Broad Street.  Thankfully it should be over by shortly after 8pm, so if I get lucky with the start time I won’t miss much.

LOL.

Draper is Chuck Norris! Can’t you see the fist hidden in his chin?  wink

Paul:  I don’t think Mule can be the MVP anymore, not after the last two shows the EuroTwins put on. Ozzie, too, is a strong contender. My own pick is for Ozzie, just to shut all those other idiots up. Hank and Z will have their Conn Smythe years.

How do I know? I just drank that beer that lets you time travel.

Posted by Osrt  on  05/14  at  12:12 AM

time traveling beer !  sign me up!  i’d like to see ozzie get it too, which is a great chance if the wings sweep dallas, he has a decent finals and the wings win.
