I’m tired. Tired of my wife kicking my butt in Wii bowling. To quote Appollo Creed, that’s very hard for a man of my intelligence to take. It is, however, what it is.
The solution? A Game 4 Live Blog set to yet another lyric from the greatest folk song of all time. A folk song that kicks the living hell, by the way, out of anything Bob Dylan ever did.

Ozzie’s getting board. Thought he was going to follow that play all the way around.

Did someone say ‘Don’t get sloppy.’?

They’re outshooting us this period.
I’m concerned.

Matt—that is called taunting!! Ha—- you can’t even score when I’m not in net!!!!

Here we go again…announcers talking about how many key players the Avs are missing.
As the old saying goes, “Excuses are like assholes. There are a lot of them in Denver.”
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 05/01/08 at 11:26 PM ET
Would have preferred to see the Wings hold them to one goal but oh well. Lock ‘em down and hold them to two goals.

Hasek was watching Ozzie chase the puck-carrier behind his own net and thinking “I can do that!”

If it wasn’t the Dive I wouldn’t gloat, but it is the Dive so I say hattricks for Sammy and Zatta…

Wow, the Versus commentators are so bored with they game they aren’t even calling it any more, just chatting.

So, hey, how the hell did Colorado even get in the playoffs? 8 to freakin’ 2? In a playoff game where your entire season is on the line? The injuries the Avs have right now should not be a factor for a team looking at, yearning for the Cup. No how, no way - don’t care who is injured. This is a team sport, if I remember correctly.
What a f’ing joke.

I have a feeling the cheering crowd is mostly Red Wing fans.

Might as well have Gordon close the game with an ode for the Avs…
Sundown, you’d better take care

So, considering his performance in this game, can we start calling the Dive’s backup goalie Peter Aboot-five?

Practice hard, boys. No rest until you’re spraying champagne.
Oh, and Brunnstrom. Look, even a fourth line spot on this team is gold. Prove yourself in this town, and you’re good to go. That’s how we roll.

in the Western Conference Finals!
Posted by Ryan from Toronto on 05/01/08 at 11:44 PM ET
Yeah, I don’t think Kenny could have scripted a getter “intro” to Red Wings hockey for Mr. Brunnstrom. What an exhibition of puck control.
Secret word: clo93sed. Amen brother. Amen.
Posted by OlderThanChelios from Grand Rapids on 05/01/08 at 11:47 PM ET
Yeah, so I think it’s a pretty safe bet this is the last NHL game that will ever be coached by Joel “Would You Like Fries With That?” Quenneville.
Trust us, Avscountry hopes so.
All I can say is congrats Wings fans. You guys deserved the win, you kicked our asses. I know the Vs announcers liked to play the injuries, but injuries for the Avs would be a lame excuse. Game 2 wasn’t decided by injuries, game three wasn’t decided by injuries, and game 1 wasn’t decided by injuries. The avs got beat by a better team. Plain and simple.
So congrats Wings fans, and screw you all. I have to cheer for Dallas in the next round, and It pisses me off that I have to cheer for Dallas
Posted by Jibblescribbits from San Jose, CA on 05/01/08 at 11:49 PM ET
Rafalski +6 tonight.
Huh? By my count, he was +2. Lilja led all defencemen with +3.
Posted by Ryan from Toronto on 05/02/08 at 12:01 AM ET
WCF BOUND!
Ozzy…...you are THE MAN. $800K for you (this year - the 3 yr extension pays more) and you are the phuckin bargain of the playoffs.
Posted by Wings Fan In KC on 05/02/08 at 12:03 AM ET
anybody wonder what Broomstrom is thinking…..hope he has a nice flight.
Posted by Rumbear from Top O da Hasek, sippin rum & catchin some rays on 05/02/08 at 12:06 AM ET
Well, that sucked ass. Good luck in the WCF. I’ll leave it up to you all to decide if I truly mean that or not
Posted by Shane from Saskatoon on 05/02/08 at 12:07 AM ET
Thanks, Gobbles. Here’s to kicking your asses next year too. Cheers.
Although, seriously, maybe ya’ll could put together a hockey team by next season? I mean, this is fun and all, but nonetheless boring. Hell, the Club Car is still stocked up on booze and whatnot, and passengers hadn’t even assumed the fetal position for this playoff round. We had more, er, excitement with Bubba, for cryin’ out loud.
I’m really not whining about the Dive’s indifference to their chosen league, but still. Some life would’ve been appreciated. See, I think you non-Wings fans have it all wrong. We like challenges. In fact, we enjoy going fetal and sucking down a liter of Old Crow (or whatever). We thrive on stress. Being the fossil fuel guzzling capitol in a berserker green world sort of illustrates that mentality.
So, yeah. Give us a challenge next season. We’d love to gloat about knocking around some team that actually deserved to play against us.
Posted by jrl123 on 05/02/08 at 12:08 AM ET
By the way…
Lilja, Sammy, Z, and Fran were +3
Lids, Dats, Lebda, Raf, Flipper, Kronner, and Homer were +2
Stewie, Happy, and Drapes were +1
For a total of +29.
That’s Plus Twenty-Nine.
Is this considered piling on as a Wing’s fan in a Wings-Dive series?
Posted by jrl123 on 05/02/08 at 12:21 AM ET
Ryan, according to ESPN Box Score, Rafalkski was +6.
But we know ESPN and hockey….
Posted by Paul from Motown Area on 05/02/08 at 12:22 AM ET
ESPN should, maybe, check with the NHL event sheet. No one was over +3 (or under -3).
Posted by jrl123 on 05/02/08 at 12:52 AM ET
Actually…
LOOK ESPN LOOK…awesome opportunity to improve your network’s hockey intel…ME…hire…yes…hire…large salary
From the NHL Game Summary:
Rafalski, #28, was on the ice for 2 of the Wing’s even strength goals, and not on the ice for Detroit’s short handed goal. Both of the Diques goals were PP goals, so they don’t count in the +/- column. That makes Rafi a +2 for the game. And I’m biased - a Wing’s fan, and I live five minutes away from Rafi’s hometownsuburb.
Simple addition is a marvelous thing, ESPN.
Posted by jrl123 on 05/02/08 at 01:02 AM ET
Chief,
You’ve been hitting on all 8 this series, but the proof is in your Lightfoot references of late. And damn straight it was better than anything Dylan ever did.
Well, that series was admittedly a lot quicker than I anticipated. Now I can go fetal over the long layoff between series ... and why in heaven Lilja was in for Cheli (-!) ... and over confidence etc etc etc.
Oh, one more little thing - a clerical issue really: Hey LittleGary! I watched the game on TSN via my laptop - screw you and your rodeo network…
Posted by Hoser from Downer Peninsula, Michigan on 05/02/08 at 01:09 AM ET
I don’t know if Chelios was playing hurt, but he sure looked like it. Lilja was in because Chelios was bad on even strength.
I don’t have the file available right now, but I went through all the playoff games a couple days ago and Chelios was on the ice for something like five even strength goals against in nine games—all while playing only 9:56 even strength per game—least among Red Wing defencemen. (Of course, pretty much 100% of those minutes were with Lebda or Lilja, so it’s wrong to blame only Chelios.) The third defence pair (and the third line) have been the weak point for the Wings, and Babcock has to try to find a way to shore it up before playing the three-scoring-line-deep Stars.
Posted by Ryan from Toronto on 05/02/08 at 01:21 AM ET
Just skimmed the comments so maybe this was mentioned, but wasn’t Brunnstrom supposed to be watching this game? Hell, if I was him I’d be signing with Kenny ASAP.
