It’s An A2Y Christmas Miracle: Let’s Bring Herm To Hockeytown

Update: It took us 30 hours to reach the $1000.00 goal.  We may open up donations again soon, so hold on to your cash if you’d planned to donate.  Thanks to all.

Ok.  Details are being hammered out but the bottom line is this: we’re bringing Guilherme from Red Wings Brazil to Detroit for a Wing game.  Why?

Because he said he’d never been to one, and we think it’s going to be cool to go ahead and fix that little problem.  He’s never met another Wing fan in his life, except for the 19 via the Gore.  He’s never been to the States, much less Detroit. So we’re fixing that too.  He’s watched games on the internet, on the tube occasionally.  He adopted the best team in hockey and now we’re going to pay him back for his loyalty.

The kid’s gonna see the Gordie statue. He’s gonna smell the stale beer aromas of Joe Louis Arena.  He’s going to see the blur that is Darren Helm, all in person.

You want in?  Of course you do.

Click there and let’s get this thing rolling.

We’re going to cap donations at $1000.00 until we figure out exactly how much we’re going to need.  If that’s way too high…we’ll figure it out.  That probably means a lot more beers for the 19 who are in attendance for the game.  Oddly?  We’re looking at 26 March against Minnesota.  Irony rocks.  That’s a Friday.

More details are all over the place, in the last five or six posts here on A2Y.  We need to consolidate that stuff.  If you’re actively involved in the planning of this, email me.  For instance: if you are donating airline miles, lodging, or if you’re organizing block tickets or maybe even a suite.  Much easier over email than here, obviously.

And if you don’t know Herm?  Meet him.

Ain’t no party like DeeTroit party…

I’ll cancel the twin strippers (ok, just one) and donate the money to Herm’s education fund.

And how are you people awake already? I’m hungover, dehydrated and zoned out; it’s taken me like 30 mins to write this.

I would actually love to see that game.  I’ll donate it if I can’t make it but I have to take some time out, maybe after work, to look at travel arrangements.  I think Arizona is far enough south that Willy and I have about equal flight time.

A Festivus miracle for T-Bone. I’m in. Might not be a significant amount but every bit helps.

I will also plan to attend with my lucky half and or maybe some family members. My Niece lives in Livonia. My Uncle too. I’ll make it a family/19 trip.  Bitches.

Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

I’ll be donating after the new year.  It won’t be much because I have to pay for school, but I can remember the feeling of seeing the Wings live for the first time.  It is something that every die hard Wings fan should experience.  Great job 19, ya’ll are a classy bunch.

Donations don’t have to be much - $5 here and $10 there adds up more quickly than you might imagine.  It’s sometimes easy to forget how many people wander through this corner of the internet from time to time even if they aren’t regular commentors.

Pretty well hungover here too Osrt. For some who usually is up at 4:30 am on weekends to hunt, staying up to 1am isn’t easy. rolleyes
Took about 5 minutes to get my paypal password from my dead brain cells, but my gift to Herm has been donated.
Put me in on any e-mails too Chief. I’ll keep an eye out for tickets.
Now, we’re going to need a cut off date for any & everyone to say they’re in or getting tickets will be up in the air til the 11th hour & 59th minute.
Absolutely the coolest thing a bunch of imaginary people have banded together to do.

I have to wait until after pay day to donate, but it’s coming.  Do you guys care if I tweet this?  I have a lot of Wings followers that are casual A2Y readers that might help, or even just hockey people who might help, I mean, this is an amazing cause.  Let me know.

As far as tickets/head count go, I’m not sure of a deadline.  I have a backup plan in case my guys price out high, I have contacted some other places (including the Red Wings) to see what they can price us out at.  It doesn’t hurt to shop around.

Gluhwein, yes.  Having lived 8 years in Deutschland serving Uncle Sam I became very familiar with it.  It’s typically a red wine with added spices like cloves and cinammon, possibly a little sugar.  It’s served hot and surfaces around Christmas time.  You can probably find it this time of year in commissaries and Post Exchanges or the Navy equivalent.

I don’t hate it.

Do we have a ballpark figure yet?  My ticket guys can have info to us tomorrow but they need at least an estimate.  I told him 15 in my initial email but it seems like this is going Epic.

Also, I think I’ll just call the Wings ticket people tomorrow (if I don’t get an email reply) to see if they can do better or are willing to throw us a bone for our cause.

I am definitely in.  T-Bone’s deposit has to wait until the Xmas bonus, as I obliterated my Credit Card shopping yesterday.

I cannot positively commit, but there is a highly reasonable probability that Rambo and I will be in DET for the game.  It will be Rambo’s first time to JLA too.

Good idea to email you with RSVPs - then they are all in one place instead of scattered through multiple threads.

If we go above and beyond what is needed just for Guilherme, I don’t mind using it to defray the expenses of those who need a little help to make the trip - for me it’s an easy drive, but those who have to pay airfare or empty several tanks of gas might appreciate a little help.
