Jimmah Brings No Excuses While Jobu Brings The Curling Iron

After letting another lead slip through their fingers, this time allowing four unanswered goals by the Masshole’s Kings, the Red Wings should be embarrassed by their performance Saturday afternoon.
Typically, we’d be hearing Ozzie sound off that he felt good, but didn’t get all the bounces or luck to win the game. Deflect, deflect, deflect.
This season we have a new stud, Jimmah Howard, who is not only playing better than Ozzie, he is taking more responsibility than Elroy for his role in a Red Wings loss. The Perfect Human, however, won’t let Jimmah be blamed for the loss.
Howard said. “I didn’t think I had my best outing. I was very disappointed in how I played. You learn from your mistakes and now I have to rebound from it.’’
While Howard threw himself under the bus, this latest collapse had more to do with the defense’s inability to control the Kings around the net.
“It hurts even more when you’re up 3-0,’’ captain Nicklas Lidstrom said. “We came out with a good push, but then in the second (period) we didn’t play well enough in front of our net. They got a lot of pucks in there, they were crashing the net and we didn’t do a good enough job to clear the rebounds or take the players out of there.’’
Jimmah is taking responsibilty, and I dig that. Now the rest of the team also has to man-up and take responsibility for their roles in the failures this season. Some long hard talks with the man in the mirror. Everyone should be embarrassed. Including the fans.
The players are saying the right things, but that is little consolation as we keep our eyes nervously on the standings and RWBill’s spaghetti graphs. Right now we are in 9th place, still within striking range, thanks mainly to the terrible play of Calgary who shipped out half a dozen players last week in a desperate attempt to save their sinking ship.
The Red Wings’ ship is listing, but you won’t be seeing the same level of panic from Tick Tock. The Wings have all the pieces they need to win games. They just have to give a fuch about winning them.
Speaking of Red Wings’ pieces, Jobu left a few of them damaged once again on Saturday. Just when we thought the Chief had successfully put that little bitch 6 feet in the ground, Jobu comes back with a vengeance and red-hot curling irons to fuch us once again.
Ken Holland said Sunday that Tomas Holmstrom (bruised left knee) and Drew Miller (sore left ankle) both are expected to play Tuesday after leaving during the Kings game. Niklas Kronwall (knee) may also play against the Blues, and if nothing else, it’ll feature the long-awaited return of power forward Johan Franzen. Patrick Eaves (sprained left ankle) is doubtful.
If it wasn’t for bad luck with injuries, the Red Wings wouldn’t have any luck at all. Big Rig and the Angry Chipmunk just returned to us only to be snatched away like candy out of a baby’s hands.
Miss I-Just-Spoke-To goes on to update us on the Swedish Meatball of Confusion’s status:
...it is almost certain the Wings will soon clear Lilja after a yearlong absence due to concussion problems. Lilja’s conditioning stint in the minors runs through Friday, and Holland said he expects team doctors to clear Lilja. That means Holland will have to remove one body from the roster and about $1.2 million from the salary cap—options include trading Brett Lebda and putting Brad May on waivers.
Deep digging at its finest, bitches, Helene even busted out her finest capologist calculator to make that profound analysis. All the while we’ve been talking about this for at least a couple of weeks, here and on the 19’s other blogs. Once again, the Deep Diggers are bringing up the rear with cutting edge analysis. Way to go, bitches.
A2Y’s crack (smoking) team of interns have done some research and discovered the salary cap calculator of choice for the Deep Diggers:

I dare anyone to find a similar quote by Osgood throughout his entire career.
Who would of thought we’d ever see the day where the strongest link on the Red Wings is the goaltending position?

When they win, it’s “we.”
When they lose, it’s “they.”
Word usage in my post:
6 - we
2- they
You clearly are a pharmacist. Now STFU.

He’s a fan. He’s hockey knowledgeable.

Can I be weird? I’m enjoying this season.
Maybe we soccer fans are nuts, bu for some reason I like to suffer. Of course I like sweeps and 82-0 seasons on videogames, but I love the suffering and nail-biting that comes with an 8th seed and 28 games in the playoffs, if it’s all rewarded with a Cup.
By the way James, I got you. Don’t turn the blame away, learn from the mistakes, and I’ll get you for along time.

Being a sports fan I can handle dispair it goes with the territory, it’s the hope that kills me….every time we sneak into 8th I dare hope this is time we turn the screw then we give up a 3 goal lead and it’s back to misery.

So basically I have your weird Brazilian voodoo to blame for the ulcer I’ve developed this season? Thanks, dude. I appreciate that.
Keeping things interesting and competitive is one thing, but I would like Detroit safely in playoff position before the Olympic break. Let me know what kind of sacrifices that requires.

But I’m sure it’s a soccer thing. I root for Corinthians, a team that one went 22 years (50 tournaments) without a title, has no continenctal championships in 100 year history, was recently relegated to 2nd division (came back), and whose fans are self-titled “crazy sufferers”. Yeah, it’s a soccer thing.

Can we stop calling out Chris Osgood every time Jimmy Howard says or does something good? The last quote from Osgood I remember in the media is admitting that the previous whining statements he made were out of order.
It’s not Osgood’s fault the wings stink right now. They’re both guys who want the Wings to win and I want both of them to succeed.

either way, this was brilliant by Holland. instead of just sending Leino down and getting his $600,000 off the cap…he got rid of him completely, picked up some depth at D, and took an extra $200,000 off the cap.
all the speculatin’ we’ve been doing around here about what moves would get the Wings under the cap, and once again Holland does something none of us ever thought of.

ManCrush alert. I’ve got a radar for these things. BTW, nice lines in the previous post. If we were in a different position, one where we could experiment, I’d be with PauinMiami on putting Helm with the EuroTwins; tell him to put his stick down and shoot whenever and wherever he gets it. Same with Fil. Or put Fil at center with Dats on wing and let Dats shoot all day long.
But, you’re right Herm. Helm is best when he just drives the net from the corner or other short distance.

it’s going to be so great having Franzen back. he’s our finisher. he’s the guy that imposes his will to put it in the net at the moments when the Wings really need it. and having him back will put us back in a position to have TWO power play units that are as good as any other team’s first unit.
the Wings’ current position in the standings is a fluke borne out of injuries to impact players. by the end of the season, they’ll be the Wings we remember. they’ll once again be the team that won the Cup in 2008 and should have won it last year. I never really thought about it, but the Wings injury woes didn’t start this season. they started in the playoffs last season.
I always thought it was cliche, but now I think I understand it. people always say it doesn’t matter what playoff seed you get, on day 1 it’s a brand new season and everyone starts off even. that point should be illustrated by the Wings very well this year.

The lines are just adapted from Sweden, and the most likely to be used. I have a feeling we’ll see Helm with the Twins in the playoffs: DET up 3-1 against CHI, they pull the goalie to save the season, 13-40-43 will shut’em down. You’ll remember me.
As for ManCrush, not there yet. As far as we know, Howard’s sophmore slump might mean 8.96GAA and 0.430 save percentage. Also, there will always be Helm.
