About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  If you think you can do better, feel free to comment; unless you’re a Dive fan.  In that case, just shut the Hell up.  Send comments and praise to:

Live Blog Tonite? You Can Bet Your Possum Dinners There’s a Live Blog Tonite

I gotta tell you, and I have told the thousands of you (okay...two) who’ve emailed me since the last live blog, they’ve become a little stale. The live blogs, that is.  Oh, we’re gonna keep doing ‘em. Yes we are.  But, I’m open to suggestions as to how we should spice them up.

Am I asking for TeamDub to bring back his borderline Cinemax-like garage-cam?  No.  For the sake of sweet baby Jesus, no.

But, we need to figure something out. Something daring and juvenile.  You have approximately three hours to do so.

A few items of interest.  Pete has returned to Yzerman is God.  He claims “grad school” has kept him busy. Okaaayyyyy.  Nobody believed my New Zealand story, but everyone’s going to be all, “oh, that’s great Pete. School comes first. Good on you. Great initiative.  Your priorities are definitely in order young man.”

Whatever.

Anyway, he obviously used his time off creatively and come up with something I’m going to go ahead and steal right frigging now.

Dominik Hasek
Last 3 games: 1.00 GAA, .942 SV%, 100 IR

“IR” is a statistic I made up called “Insanity Rating”. It’s a scale from 0-100 and the most desirable for a goalie is 100. Patrick Roy is known to have a lifetime average of 97, Hasek’s average is 99, which explains why those two are hall-of-famers. (Ed Belfour, however, had a 137 lifetime. ) Anyway, Hasek’s game is on: he’s healthy, confident, and willing as ever to throw himself out of the crease at lightning pace.

The insanity rating.  Nice.

Oh, and Gramps has something up his sleeve. What is it?  How about stealing more A2Y readers and hiring them on as bloggers at his own place.  Nifty ploy old man.

WE ARE ABOUT TO ANNOUNCE SOME NEW CONTRIBUTORS
Stay tuned.....

He’s already got Baroque. Now she’s using her elitist vocabulary over there instead of in our comments here. Thanks Gramps, for stealing the only adult we had here at A2Y.  Who’s next?  Who’s the next mystery contributor to Hockeytown Todd’s

I’m guessing Thom.

You have got more classy visitors than I have time.

Baroque’s vocabulary is certainly admirable, but her sense of humor is priceless.  Such a great find, why would I not look for more diamonds in your coal mine?

I think the Sailor may have an incentive for you.

Check back every minute for updates, you see, I need the hits!!!

Or you could check back around 645p-7p ET, at which time “The Incentive” should be posted.

Hay, I haven’t stopped hanging around here, either.

I think my computer is becoming my significant other.

And I’ve decided to name it Hal.

(The sad thing is, intellectually my relationship with my computer is more fulfilling than those with some of the guys I’ve dated.  Does that make me pathetic or them losers?) wink

Posted by Baroque from Michigan  on  12/10  at  06:46 PM

There are alot of losers out there, I am hoping you only met a few of them.

Posted by HockeyTownTodd  on  12/10  at  07:15 PM

Alright, Paul, I’m intrigued. I’ve offered my two-year-old a cookie if she’ll sit here pressing the refresh button for the next 20 minutes.

Now I feel obligated to say something about how her presence is unlikely to lower the level of discourse around here...but that would just be mean. wink

Chief: are drugs too obvious as a method to spice things up? Andrew and I are already there...wait, where are we man…

Perhaps we can join an opposing live blog and create, you know, a civilized discourse between two invested groups. Perhaps such actions are the everyday practices of world peace through rational communication.

but they should be able to read and write though...damn...this close to perpetual peace and we lost it…

Baroque: Intellectually satisfying relationships are to be had wherever possible, and a computer is as good a place as any. Perhaps a scholar in the humanities should be tried? wink, wink, nudge, nudge…

Nobody believed my New Zealand story,…

Trust, but verify. Well, the sheep ain’t talking. I’m just saying.

Now, what to wear to a liveblog with incentives?!

Posted by Rumbear from Sandy Eggo  on  12/10  at  07:49 PM

Chief, thanks for the plug! And I believed the New Zealand story, if it means anything to you.

As for spicing up the live blog? I was going to suggest alcohol, but someone beat me to it. Besides I’m living off ramen noodles these days. Alcohol is a rich man’s luxury. After that, I got no ideas.

since i’m broke and can’t afford cable, i will be watching the game at one of the two Red Wings bars that i know of in SF.  nothing like being in a room full of Wings fans 2500 miles from the Mitten.

bartender told me last time that she owes me a beer.  hopefully that carries over.

Posted by Alex from San Francisco  on  12/10  at  08:06 PM

I read everything you write...and more.  There is so much to read in fact that I haven’t written in about a month. There has been no- one to ague with about the team...This whole season to me has been like seeing that perfect Tetris piece appear on the screen...but I have to waite at least 98(?) games for the peice to fall and clear the screen. But I know it’s already there...’cept...you know...something could happen.

Alex, consider yourself lucky.  I can’t find a decent hockey bar - much less a Wings bar - in San Diego.  People around here still think there’s a lockout.

Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA  on  12/10  at  08:12 PM

Gabe, I can ask around for you.  Lots of Sailor hockey fans out there.

Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC  on  12/10  at  08:20 PM

my folks live in San Diego (North County) and i spent my years age 9-18 there.  as for hockey bars, i can’t think of many off hand.  maybe head to my folks house (i’m slowly talking my father into following the Wings again).  also, i never lived in SD when i was of drinking age.

there are a few in LA if you want to make the trek.

Posted by Alex from San Francisco  on  12/10  at  08:22 PM

Gabriel...There is a lockout..it’s us!  Since the Gulls flew away hockey is a tough topic here in Amerika’s finest city.  I know one bar in Pt Loma that will put on the games on Versus.  Otherwise I stay home with Direct TV listen to Mick and his sidekick on FSN Deetroit.

If it’s any consolation under Little Gary’s rules you and I are Duck fans.  That’s why the Wing games are blacked out on Direct when the boys come out west.

Posted by Rumbear from Sandy Eggo  on  12/10  at  08:30 PM

Perhaps this is a bit unimaginative, but how about you make a post, you take a shot! No telling how that would wind up, but I bet it wouldn’t be “stale” by the end of the night.

I wasn’t going to drink tonight, but if it’s what I have to do for the team, I’ll make the sacrifice.

Pete, I was a student once, and had to drink nasty Black Label beer for a dollar a 6 pack. You can get a quart of Icehouse for $1.29, 2 of those will put your drivers liscense at risk. It’s not Remy Martin, but it will get the job done.

We’ll all just have to be on the honor system, I suppose

As long as everyone stays away from the infamous Natty Bo (National Bohemian).  ‘Course, I only saw that particular brand around Baltimore.

Perhaps a scholar in the humanities should be tried? wink, wink, nudge, nudge…

Right now, srt, I am quite happily unattached (except for my laptop Hal, of course).  Don’t get any ideas.

Posted by Baroque from Michigan  on  12/10  at  09:00 PM

Ken Daniels just told a barely literate Terry Crisp that Ken Holland has nearly five million to work with.  I mention that (a) to get out of folding laundry with my wife and (b) because I think the number we’d been hearing was closer to four.  Attribute that--I THINK--to where we are in the season.

Now, does that mean that when the deadline rolls around it could be closer to 5.5?

Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC  on  12/10  at  09:54 PM

That shorthanded goal was a good poke-check and a bad bit of luck.
