Mule’s In

Multiple media sources confirm.  Franzen’s in.

The Detroit Red Wings will get a big boost with the return of one of their leading scorers.

Swedish forward Johan Franzen has been cleared to play for Game Two of the Stanley Cup Final Monday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Franzen has been suffering from concussion-like syndromes and has not played since Game One of the Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars.

Frazen competed in a full practice Sunday and appeared ready to go.

“It’s better, I don’t feel anything anymore.  It’s good.  There will be so much adrenaline, it doesn’t matter what shape you’re
in.”

So, you’re saying he’s jealous of Zetterberg possibly taking over the lead?

It’ll be good to have him back.  He must have been climbing the walls the last few days waiting for the okay from the doctors.

no, I’m saying that now we have ourselves a race to the finish for these two.  could be good motivation, a little friendly competition and rivalry between the two of them.

Nice find Nate. Mule’s head looks appropriately ginormous in that pic.

Is Mac out then?

Very nice Charlie

Highlander says Dmac is likely out, especially with Laroque out for the Pens. Malts is probably next most likely candidate to sit.

Just in time to challenge Brad Richards’ record of 7 game winning goals in a postseason!

I think, barring two hat tricks in the rest of the series, that’s the only remaining shot he has at the Conn Smythe.

I think Ozzie made himself the front runner for the Conn Smythe in game 1, Ryan.  I do agree with you though, Franzen is probably either third or fourth on the Wings for that consideration, depending on how much credit you want to give Datsyuk’s defensive domination.

Gabriel, I use sportsalert.net. Sometimes I receive the text message a little while after the goal, and every once in a while they skip a goal altogether, though. It’s been much better since the Conference Finals, though. Haven’t had much of an issue.

Don’t put two hat tricks past him.

Should have used a laughing smiley face earlier - Franzen doesn’t seem like the type to get jealous of anyone else’s success.

Now I hope the media will not overwhelm him so he starts getting tension headaches from all the attention!

Mule is In, Mac is out.

My question is this; where does Uncle Mike put him?  Not a bad conundrum to have, finding a place for the league leading goal scorer in the playoffs; but a conundrum it is.

He hasn’t played a game since game 1 against the Av’s.

Oompa Loompa, Fil, and Charley Buckets played a great “shutdown” game against Malkin’s line.

By the same token, Drake, Draper, and Enigma Redux were awesome; 2 goals against the Staal line.

Does Uncle Mike put him on the #4 line with Helm (about 6 + mins) and out on the #2 PP line?

You know the saying:  “If it aint broke don’t Fu@# with it?

My money says the 4 line.  Got to keep Malkins line off the score sheet, and get Mule’s legs back in the game.

Dallas...but yeah he hasn’t played in a while.  plus it was the kind of thing where he couldn’t skate, couldn’t work out, and has only had a few practices.

I think it would be wise to limit his minutes early and see how he does.  if he seems to be cranking it up, then throw him up with Sammy and Fil and watch them work.

I’m with Paul in Miami.

Start him off on 4th line and see how he does. Bump him up to 2nd if he’s playing well.

Is it game time yet? These last 2 hours are killin me.

George James Malik at Snapshots has some intersting statistics at the end of the cited article:

Also of note, for the statistically minded:

Teams winning Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final have gone on to win the Stanley Cup in 52 of 68 years since the best-of-seven format began in 1939 (76%).

All-Time Finals Record Of Home Clubs Sweeping Games 1 and 2: 30-1
(In 1971, Chicago won the first two games at home but lost to Montreal in seven games.)

All-Time Finals Record Of Home Clubs Splitting Games 1 and 2: 16-7

Most of the articles only emphasize his goal scoring, which is natural but typically short sighted.  They forget and don’t mention his defensive contributions.  This is a guy in game 4 vs the Dive, leading the league in goals and leading the game 8-1, threw himself down in front of a slapshot on the PK.

Selfless, hardworking, maybe a goal or two if they forget about him the rest of the way.

Thanks Paul.  I’ll pass it on.  I’m feeling wierd about today’s game.  It’s like I’ve got one foot on the Hasek and one dangling off the back.  In game one, with the exception of the 1st period, the Wings couldn’t have played much better.  The Pens will definitely play much better tonight… Not sure it matters.  If Detroit plays defense the way they did 5v5 in the 1st game I don’t see them losing (unless their shut out).

Easy to forget because the goals are flashy, but only if you have really watched him do you remember that he was initially a purely defensive forward, that they moved to center to go against big centers like Getzlaf et al.

I think tonight is all about the Wings staying out of the penalty box, especially early.

they may have smothered the Pens power play in game 1, but we can’t expect that every game.  the sun even shines on a dog’s ass some day, best not to let the dog outside.

What do you do tonight if you’re Homer.  If you play your game exactly the same do you worry at all about a goal being waived off?  If it’s the first goal again does that have ramifications?  I think Uncle Mike will let his horse ride and deal with the consequences later.  Otherwise Homer is rendered ineffective to a great degree.  Discuss amongst yourselves…
