Oh…It’s An Every Year Kinda Thing

Disch asked in one of the posts below (I don’t know...I lose track. My lips are so cold.) if the high stress quotient that seems to have overtaken this blog is a new glorious feature added just this year, or an annual excursion into the kind of pain only brought on by the playoffs.

It got me thinking.  Here’s the lead to a post leading up to Game 1 with Calgary, written exactly one year ago tomorrow.

Long, long, long frigging week.  In case you’d forgotten, here are a few items to worry about:  Zetterberg’s health, Bertuzzi’s health, Mike Babcock’s ability to adapt and the true terror of another early loss.  A few items for you to consider as Stress-Ex 2007 grows nearer.

Sound familiar? How about this?

In my opinion, if Detroit loses a healthy Hasek could very well be to blame.  I seem to be in the minority who believe Hasek could actually turn out to be a weakness in the first round.

That was me. I wrote that.  And I feel exactly the same 364 days later.  Some things, Disch, do NOT change.

When do the rednecks show up?

I hope they are as much the good sports that the Sharks fans were last year.

O-Joe, their bloggers are strangely silent.  I’ve listed three on the left. Pred-Joe appears to be still, literally, sobbing over his team’s amazing run for the opportunity to get their asses kicked.

On The Forecheck hasn’t updated in about three days.

Paul Nicholson’s been pretty consistent this week and he’s an occasional commenter over here so I’d expect to see him soon.

As for the Bubba fan in general?  You know as well as I do that most don’t have electricity, much less the internet.

Chief—The historical analysis is timely...and seems to settle this argument once and for all:  Playoffs are a nightmare no matter what year you’re in.

In a sick sense, I take an odd amount of relief knowing that my (currently unborn) children will some day come to know exactly what their dad was going through.

CMA awards are on the 14th and ya gotta believe that has the fan base attention. The town is prolly all a twitter trying to figure out if Brad washed his pickup or Bubba shot the jukebox.

Priorities...or...short attention span?  I’m just axing.

The music references this week have been spot on.

“Daddy drinks because you cry.” Too friggin’ funny. “Eleanor Rigby”? Who woulda thought that could have any relevance...except the Chief. And now “Bubba Shot the Jukebox”. Hey, anything with “Bubba” in it is hilarious.

A few lines from said classic may foreshadow the first-round outcome…
A teardrop rolled down Bubba’s nose
From the pain the song was inflicting
And all at once he jumped to his feet
Just like somebody kicked him

Substitute “Wings” for “song” and I think that pretty much tells the story. grin

Don’t mind me.  I’m just testing out a few things in case the Cracker Barrels install web access by Thursday.

“In my opinion, if Detroit loses a healthy Hasek could very well be to blame.” I agree. Goaltending is the one thing the Wings have had to deal with as long as I can remember. And I have been a Wings fan for a long, long time. I do believe behind every cloud there is a silver lining. Ours is Chris Osgood. Silver like The Stanley Cup. Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

Some of Detroit’s finest enjoying some of the city’s nightlife.

Beautiful downtown Detroit...a tourist destination for sure!

And of course...the brilliant leader of your crumbling city.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

Wanna Feel Smart?

Does confusion make you sad? When you read words like "enigma" and phrases like "Thanks Gary. Ass", do you wonder why mean people speak in languages you don't understand? Fret no longer friend! The A2Y Glossary will bring you great joy and enlightenment.

How Others View The A2Y 19

"Hell, I guarantee the content co-opters at Abel to Yzerman were about to link this article under the heading “Bitter Blues Fans” again right up until they just read that last half-sentance. Thanks but no thanks, you Kukla hangers-on."
--St. Louis Game Time

"I realize it’s the slow summer season, but can this guy tone down the tough-guy histrionics? His posts are fatiguing on an otherwise excellent site."
--A2Y Fan, Eternal_Fields

"I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season."
--Mile High Hockey

"I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…"
--In The Cheap Seats

"It's just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don't deserve their team."
--Thhom

"I really don’t care what fans or bloggers think."
--Drew Sharp

"Why is it you Detroit fans are still so classless when you have such a classy hockey team, with such a professional GM and gentlemen players? I understand that the author of this blog is a manner-less cad, but the rest of you should be better."
--A2Y Fan, Jeff Beaumont

"Have you ever *read* A2Y? Its the most opinionated, juvenile stuff i've read."
--Paul Nicholson

"I actually like the Detroit team and have a sh&% load of respect for them, but their fans are the biggest douches next to Canadians."
--KStewy, PensBlog Commenter

"Just when it looks like we have bottomed out, the 19 hit a new low."
-A2Y legend, Hockeytown Todd

"And for the record, I don't hate the Red Wings, I hate their fans."
--Douche Bag at Puck Daddy who isn't Wyshynski
