You wanted a rivalry?
Well, you got one bitches. As the emperor told us a few minutes ago, Scotty’s headed to Chicago.
Now all those happy thoughts you’ve had about Uncle Mike and Scott Bowman exchanging texts and sending each other funny forwards from Puckdaddy? Forget ‘em.
‘Cause Scotty’s got a brand new bag and he’s taking all his tricks with him. Everything he knows about your Wings? Put it on the white board and break it down because that’s what the Hawks will be doing.
Fifteen years of insider Hockeytown knowledge is now the official property of the Chicago Blackhawks. So, I’m guessing—and I could be wrong—that we don’t have to wish for a rivalry anymore.
Now we’ve got a reason to hate us some Blackhawks.

What’s next? Chief named his boat “Sea Man” or something like that!
I knew there was a certain level of juvenilicity missing lately and now I know why. Rumbear was on vacation. Well, welcome back you feline assassin.
Want a reason to hate us? We won the division series against you hosers.
Aw, come on, Wade, you know that’s just because the Wings spent half of the year trying to figure out why the Hawks signed Bobby. For the first four games, they just skated around saying, “Hey, ain’t that The Enigma over there. Why would anyone want…ooops, they scored another one.”
This year, their only challenge will be to keep from laughing themselves silly over the fcat that you guys are spending $12.375M on your goalies and we’re spending more than $10,000,000 less.
I’m guessing it’ll take at least two games before the Wings can stop laughing enough to actually concentrate on hockey.

“Rivalry Depth Chart”
Yes please. Seriously, this might be the move to bump the Hawks up from third line energy player to solid second liner. But that’s all, folks (at least this year).

Are you serious? Really?!? Ever heard of the Stanley Cup???
first thing my wife said, “he obviously doesn’t want to win anymore”… helps me remember why I love her so much

Sir, I resemble your compliment…uh, insult, or something like that.
Fear not, for I am home for a week of litigious endeavours only to be banished, once again, to an island “23 miles across the sea” for a week of well, more frivolity. Seems to be a theme in these parts. The 9 hole course in the wee island town grows tiresome around mid week and the consumption of adult beverages increases, some might say, dramatically. I call it getting ready for the pre-season, as it were.
Feline Assasin, indeed…Dallas series if memory serves. One of those polecat’s you had in baggage kinked a fine nine iron with his skull. It was a Cup chase and there were sacrifices all around OTC, sacrifices all around.
Ahhhh….. the Summer of Stanley continues…..

I didn’t mind so much that you felt you had “sacrifice” ol’ Biff and Spike. But I was kinda put out that you didn’t show up for the memorial service.

I head out for a week… and come back to this?!
Yeah, me, too. I was all set to credit my vacation for the Fil signing, but then came home to this.
I think Scotty has earned the right to go wherever he wants. But I feel sad.

From ‘95 until now, the Hawks have won the season series six times, and the Wings won the Cup in three of those years.
Over the same span, the Wings won the season series seven times, winning just one Cup.
I know which option I’d choose…
I’m guessing you weren’t even alive in 1961, Wade? Bummer.

All this talk about a burgeoning Wings-Hawks rivalry got me thinking about the games this past season…much closer than a 3-4-1 record indicates…(sorry, kinda long)
10/6/07 @ Chicago; 3-4 L in SO
Had a 3-1 lead entering the 3rd period; Homer scored a PP goal in the 3rd that should have put us up 4-1, but whadduya know, Dan Marouelli waves it off. Kane scores on Hasek in the SO.
10/12/07 @ Detroit; 2-3 L
Had a 2-0 lead after the 1st; the original Enigma with the GWG.
11/11/07 @ Chicago; 2-3 L
Ok this game the Hawks led throughout, but this was also the game that had we won would have been our 10 straight win. Lord knows that wasn’t going to happen (how many 9-game win streaks does this franchise have anyway?)
11/17/07 @ Detroit; 3-5 L
Once again, a lead heading into the 3rd (3-2); Patrick Sharp cemented his Wing-killer status by scoring all 3 goals in the final period. Also gave up 3 SHG in this game; only gave up 6 SHG total the entire season.
1/6/08 @ Chicago; 3-1 W
Finally, a win! It should be noted the Hawks were playing without 7 regulars in their lineup (including Toews), but this was also the second of a back-to-back for the Wings.
3/11/08 @ Detroit; 3-1 W
A second straight win! Slowly rebounding after the Feb slump; outshot the Hawks 47-20.
4/2/08 @ Chicago; 2-6 L
Ugly loss; Hasek pulled after allowing 3 goals on 6 shots; 3rd to last game of the season (but still needed a point to win the Pres trophy)
4/6/08 @ Detroit; 4-1 W
Last game of the season, meaningless for both teams as the Wings clinched the Pres trophy with a win against the BJs and the Hawks were already out of the playoffs.
So the Hawks and all their fans like Wade can go on thinking they have the Wings’ number and dreaming about knocking us out of the playoffs, but I don’t buy it…...yet. Not when we only earned one more measly point against the Blues last season. Now this season? Probably what I’m looking forward to the most is how the Wings respond against their divisional opponents. Think 17-13-2 (0.531) is happening again? Don’t count on it. Chicago is a team on the rise, no doubt. But the Wings have an excellent opportunity to nip this in the bud before it becomes a full-fledged rivalry again sooner than it needs to be.

The Hawks have actually been poaching us for a while now: Jason Williams, Robert Lang, That Guy They Signed Right Out Of Our Training Camp Last Year. I sure hope they don’t steal Samuelson…Good God, anyone but Sammy!
Oh geez, I had to clean my monitor after that one.
So I don’t check the blog for a few days and I come back to this? Wow. Chicago always plays the Wings tough, this just adds another element to it. I can hear them mining this already to give more “drama” to the Winter Classic on tv.
Thank you, Scotty.

Oddly, the year before last Detroit killed their divisional opponents, iirc.
Maybe they decided to alternate years.

‘07: 22-4-6
‘06: 25-3-4
Chicago was the worst (or best?) victim, Detroit earned at least a point in all sixteen games over those two seasons (14-0-2).
