Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. If you think you can do better, feel free to comment; unless you’re a Dive fan. Clark, I think that hex is done. We’ve been good the last couple games.
Posted by Nate A on 04/29 at 10:00 PMIt pains me to say it, but I could see the Wings losing this game tonight.
I just finished covering the Raps-Magic NBA series (so I missed the first two games of Wings-Ava) but I think the matchup and talent level between the two teams in this series is very similar.
So if my theory holds true, the Avs will beat the Wings 4-2 or so tonight. Then Game 4 will be really close, but the Wings will pull it out in Denver, maybe in overtime. Then they will come back to Detroit and take care of business in Game 5.
If Forsberg and Hanan do play, and the crowd is nuts, it will be enough to push them over the top emotionally. It’s such a boost to come home to a rocking crowd when you’re down.
Hey I hope it don’t happen. I hope the Wings nail em to the wall tonight, and Theodore might let that happen. I just wanted to put my genius thought on the record somewhere.
Posted by Jayo from Toronto on 04/29 at 10:00 PMJayo, you are a Real Man of Genius.
I know this because my prediction is basically the same as yours, and I am a genius, too..
go wings
Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 04/29 at 10:01 PMI usually just let ‘em rip Paul. I’ll read it afterward and correct any stupid spelling/grammar stuff, but for the most part it’s just kind of a mass spewage.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 04/29 at 10:02 PMfor the most part it’s just kind of a mass spewage.
that’s what I figured. kind of hard to come up with the things you do if it’s planned. it has to come from inside.
I mean, oompa-loompas? wtf?!
Ugh. Bad omen. Versus is pre-empted by Petey McNab and John “Late Night Sneaky Uncle” Kelly… As bad as Versus is, this is terrible…
Hopefully these two are sobbing in each other’s arms by the end of the night…
Versus pulling in the big advertisers again. I’m a Hermosa Group constituent for sure.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 04/29 at 10:06 PMGood omen. Milan Hedge-Duck looks sad when John Kelly gazes into his dreamy baby blues…
Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 04/29 at 10:07 PMSomething wrong....Versus is showing the Hearns/Leonard fight here in W. Michigan...I am NOT HAPPY!
Posted by Scott H from Kalamazoo on 04/29 at 10:07 PMHurry up, Tigers! Come on Bautista. Put it (the inning) away!
Posted by Matt Saler on 04/29 at 10:07 PMWell guys here we go again. Go Wings!
I just don’t know if I can stay up all night to watch this one. I’m still recovering from surgery and I’m all loaded up with Vicodin tonight.
Here’s hoping I don’t bust a suture open yelling at the teevee.
Posted by Jennifer on 04/29 at 10:08 PMSomething wrong....Versus is showing the Hearns/Leonard fight here in W. Michigan...I am NOT HAPPY!
If you get FSN Detroit, it’s on there once the Tigers are done.
Posted by Clark on 04/29 at 10:08 PMtime to bust out the Red Bull and vodka. damn late games.

Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:10 PMwow, that was about the slowest icing whistle I’ve ever seen.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:12 PMTomorrow morning is going to suck.
So far...so good.
Who would have thought that the can would have a waste management logo at center ice? Fitting.
Posted by eyesris from Georgia on 04/29 at 10:12 PMAgreed with earlier comments about the likely loss tonight...or at least tomorrow. Unlikely we’re getting the sweep, but I’m not too worried.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 04/29 at 10:13 PMno boarding call?! are you kidding me?!
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:14 PMno holding call against the Avs on Datsyuk. do the refs realize the game started?
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:15 PMNow we see why the likely loss. Looks like they refs are going to make up for that 3rd period from last game with no calls.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 04/29 at 10:15 PMDefinitely letting them play. At least three penalties that could have been called either way.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 04/29 at 10:16 PManybody know Babcock’s record on his birthday?
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:16 PMIf it’s gonna be like that, it’s time to man up, boys.
Nik Jr., Dallas, Darren (and the other Darren) ... time to do yer thang.
Posted by Jayo from Toronto on 04/29 at 10:17 PMbut they’re going to call that hook on Kronwall? ridiculous.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:18 PM...or not…
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:18 PMUgh… this isn’t good. But maybe it’ll spark the Wings to step up their play.
Posted by Jennifer on 04/29 at 10:18 PMFirst LaDERRIER lays out the dirtiest hit of the series…
Then the Dive score a weak one.
namu myoho renge kyo
Posted by VooX on 04/29 at 10:19 PMWell, this sucks so far…
Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 04/29 at 10:20 PMSomebody needs a f***** beat down…
Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 04/29 at 10:21 PM70 degrees in Denver and the ice is “the worst so far in the playoffs” according to the Wings. methinks the Avs want the puck bouncing all over the place. but hey, it’s not like they painted the visitors’ locker room last night or anything…
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:21 PMJesus...there’s no fight in this team. Kronner not following through on a hit?
Though it’s unlikely the Avs can keep up the tempo.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 04/29 at 10:22 PMMule Time???
Posted by BP29er from Livonia,MI on 04/29 at 10:22 PMSo that was McLeod with the goal...who per NHL rules should have been suspended following the ‘pus throwing incident...against anyone but the Wings.
Thanks, Gary. Ass.
Posted by number9 on 04/29 at 10:22 PMdon’t get sour already, people! the goal was a good one by the Avs. they don’t have near the energy I would expect them to have considering the importance of the game, and the Wings look good so far. time for the PP, and even up the game.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:22 PMone consilation to that first goal is we now have LaDerrier to hate and target… who’s down for sending LaD a good old knuckle sandwich, d-Mac?
Posted by VooX on 04/29 at 10:24 PMI thought homer had two for sure that shift alone. He’s looking a little more active. Man, this is gonna be a frigging nail biter. Might as well drink.

Posted by CraigGR from Roanoke, VA on 04/29 at 10:36 PMI think that second puck by Josie might have had a little flu on it.

Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 04/29 at 10:37 PMYea Edge commercial… I’ll tell you about another smell that can get a man going…

Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:38 PMI think that second puck by Josie might have had a little flu on it.
Quote of the game so far
Posted by BuzzFledderjohn from Frederick, MD on 04/29 at 10:38 PMWe score one more, 3/4 doesn’t play starting the 2nd. Forsberg is in the locker room again ALREADY!!
Posted by Chris from Columbia, Tennessee on 04/29 at 10:38 PMForsberg went to the room
Posted by Osrt on 04/29 at 10:38 PMgee, The Great Distractor went to the dressing room, eh? so he tried to play when he shouldn’t have, made it all of 15 minutes, and now leaves his team short a forward. Quenneville is a genius.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:39 PMpoor Peter Foreskin
Posted by jmara85 on 04/29 at 10:39 PMIs that 2 posts for us already now?
Posted by Chris from Columbia, Tennessee on 04/29 at 10:39 PMWe’re starting to take over!!!
Posted by Chris from Columbia, Tennessee on 04/29 at 10:40 PMAvs want to start the penalty parade a little early this time
Posted by BuzzFledderjohn from Frederick, MD on 04/29 at 10:42 PMIs that 2 posts for us already now?
three, since Filpulla hit both posts on his shot.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:42 PM2 goals, 2 posts, and 2 penalties to Little Ian lol
Posted by Chris from Columbia, Tennessee on 04/29 at 10:42 PMThanks for the correction, Paul
Posted by Chris from Columbia, Tennessee on 04/29 at 10:43 PMI have to say that Mule is making so many smart choices on the ice right now he has to be commended. He is playing on a different level… wow.
Posted by VooX on 04/29 at 10:44 PMTheodore has been one lucky bastard tonite.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 04/29 at 10:45 PMHe’s responded? 2 goals on 19 shots is kinda mediocre...but then compared to his record over the last couple of games, I guess I can understand his logic.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 04/29 at 10:45 PMOne word to describe the first period: unsurprising.
Posted by Ryan from Toronto on 04/29 at 10:45 PM19 shots after that slow start, not bad. We started to take over as the period went on. We’re settling in just fine
Posted by Chris in Columbia, TN on 04/29 at 10:46 PMgood period on the road. Avs got some chances, and they’re going to, but Osgood was solid.
one thing I notice that’s glaringly absent from this series is that “OMFG what the hell do they have to do to score on this guy?!” thought that we’re so used to in the playoffs.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:46 PMI love that Crosby commercial. that shot with the puck going over the frozen goalie is awesome!
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 10:47 PMAbsolutely couldn’t have asked for a better first period. Withstood the little momentum boost from the wine sippers. Settled down. Then absolutely took over.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 04/29 at 10:47 PMIf I was Sakic, I would walk over to Petey and smack him front of everyone.
Posted by Osrt on 04/29 at 10:47 PMThe Swede Captain speaks better english than all of us combined.
Posted by eyesris from Georgia on 04/29 at 10:50 PMEvery time I hear Laperriere’s first name, Ian, I can’t help but thing of Tim Robbins’ douchebag character, Ian, from the movie “High Fidelity”.
“What f**king Ian guy?”
Posted by BuzzFledderjohn from Frederick, MD on 04/29 at 10:51 PMThanks Moore00!!!
I’m watching TSN live from this link. The speek is good.

Posted by red from SE Michigan on 04/29 at 10:52 PMAvstards… please.
Watch that interview and corresponding point totals from # 93 and I defy you to say something factually negative.
Bitches.
Posted by TeamDub on 04/29 at 10:53 PMI really like the confidence of the Wings at this point. The Dive ran them to begin the game and scored an early goal but the Wings played their game. They look very steady, and dare I say it, ‘championistic’ in their determination.
Posted by Mike from La-La Land on 04/29 at 10:53 PMWhat HAT did Franzen wear during that interview between periods on FSN? I love it!!!
Posted by BP29er from Livonia on 04/29 at 10:53 PMOctopi on Avs ice?
Posted by red from SE Michigan on 04/29 at 10:54 PMHelluva period. Even when the Avs took the lead the Wings were playing better and making more chances.
Avs lucky it’s not 4-1 by now.
Posted by RWBill on 04/29 at 10:56 PMVersus stats show faceoffs 14-6 Avs. that can’t be right. anybody paying enough attention to know if that’s accurate?
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 11:00 PM“In terms of” dim-witted play-by-play men, how many times did this guy re-use “in terms of “ in the first period. “____ leads his team in terms of ____” “The _____ lead the NHL in terms of _______”
Still he’s better than Milbury, in terms of being a douche bag.
Posted by RWBill on 04/29 at 11:00 PMVersus stats show faceoffs 14-6 Avs. that can’t be right. anybody paying enough attention to know if that’s accurate?
The NHL.com scoresheet agrees with VS.

Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 04/29 at 11:04 PMdid you guys see the guy with the Kocur jersey, right where Kronner made the huge hit
Posted by Osrt on 04/29 at 11:04 PMdid he just say that was kronner’s first good hit of the playoffs? is this the first game he’s seen?
Posted by scheisskopf on 04/29 at 11:05 PMman, Chelios hasn’t been himself this year…
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 11:05 PMand no hooking call on the Avs against Datsyuk. pathetic.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 11:06 PMEh, especially the end of the season, Paul. I’m thinking we’re seeing his last games.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 04/29 at 11:06 PMMaybe it’s the Vicodin… but i missed the Stastny thing. What happened?
Posted by Jennifer on 04/29 at 11:06 PMHow was that not a hook on Datsyuk?
Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 04/29 at 11:06 PMThat’s gotta be a freaking hooking when Datsyuk was going to the net. WTF?
Posted by RWBill on 04/29 at 11:06 PMNevermind...they just replayed it.

Looks like Draper took out Petey with an ankle check...hee hee.
Posted by Matt from Chicago on 04/29 at 11:08 PMWhen McLeod got called for high sticking in the first, I asked my family, what was that a penalty for? And my brother quickly responds, “Just being an Avalanche player.” I was so proud of that comment.

Posted by Jennifer on 04/29 at 11:11 PMamazing pass to the point by Datsyuk, and he gets it back. beautiful!
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 11:11 PMOsgood makes a couple brilliant saves, the puck goes the other way...and into the Avs net.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 11:11 PMSo there’s the 3… where’s the 4?
and there’s datsyuk, the so-called “playoff choke artist”
Posted by scheisskopf on 04/29 at 11:12 PMDumb F--kers everybody going to the boards to deliver a hit and leave the goalie hung out to dry. Avs .... such a mindless play.
Posted by RWBill on 04/29 at 11:12 PMMan, it sucks that we’ve got a perennial playoff choker like Datsyuk on our team.
Posted by Nate A on 04/29 at 11:12 PMAv’ guy left the point to go hit a Wing on the Wall, and Pav’s buries the puck— SWEET

Who’s the color commentator? His voice is annoying but he seems like a good announcer for new fans. Explaining what’s happening, who’s doing what well, etc.
Posted by wingsfanindenver on 04/29 at 11:23 PMAlright… let’s just survive the rest of the third…
Posted by Pete K on 04/29 at 11:24 PMOzzie with the Dom Special on that one.

The Great Distractor with 6 minutes in penalties the last 8 minutes.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 11:25 PMHow nice would it be if the Vag savior ends up costing them another goal?
Posted by wingsfanindenver on 04/29 at 11:26 PMand there’s the even-up call.

Posted by Jennifer on 04/29 at 11:26 PMDitto Shark even-up B.S.
Posted by Jeff - - OklahomaWingNut from Wind-Swept-Plains on 04/29 at 11:27 PMthat looked like a Hasek flop! “ooh, OW, you brushed me with your shoulder and knocked me into the stands!”
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 11:27 PMtwo goals up, less than a period and a half. Wings need to shut this thing down.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 04/29 at 11:30 PMDid Forsberg stash porn in the box during warm-ups or what?

Jose Theodore = Jose ThreeOrFour = 3/4
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 11:32 PMRW: “Thoedore” sounds like, acts like “3 or 4”

Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 04/29 at 11:33 PMand no interference call behind the net. wonderful.
Posted by PaulinMiamiBeach on 04/29 at 11:33 PMPP looking a little wobbly there, guys…
you mean like 3/4...or the whole Avs team? I guess you’d be the one to know what wobbly looks like.

Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 04/29 at 11:37 PMdatsyuk is un-hookable apparently
Parity Nate, parity.
they can’t stop him fairly so they get a little leeway on the “rules” in order to give the game a little parity.
there have been a few missed calls in the last 5 of the 2nd.
Posted by wingsfanindenver on 04/29 at 11:38 PMLMAO. Roger on the 3 or 4.
To me Theodore sounds like “GoneInFour”.

Alright. Been drinking and have something unpopular to say. Little Gary...ass? I just can’t get behind it anymore. Since he’s taken charge (92? 93?), the Wings haven’t missed the playoffs, have picked up three Cups, 6 president trophies, have dominated the whole league…
Gary’s an idiot...an ineffective leader, a poor choice when it comes to handing over the keys to the NHL...he’s dilluted the talent of teams, he’s expanded into the wrong markets, made sure you can’t find hockey on TV, partnered with companies that make a joke of this league…
but…
None of that has been bad for the Wings. In fact it’s been good for them. Even putting the team in the West and making sure they have one of the most grueling travel schedules in the league hasn’t shown that it hurts them. His attempts to create parity have only highlighted the genius that is Ken Holland.
So I just wanted to say thanks Gary. Yes, you’re an ass, but you’re okay. Feel free to screw this league over for years to come if it means I get to keep watching the Wings spank the Avs in the playoffs.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 04/29 at 11:40 PMOne more period and this series is over.
I’m too superstitious too agree with that, but then I’m a strange like that.
Posted by wingsfanindenver on 04/29 at 11:40 PMThe Wing’s PP is about where it was at in the regular season - 20.20%. It’s at 19.04% after those two PP goals tonight.
Posted by jrl123 on 04/29 at 11:40 PMYou know, what I like best about this board is that when someone has a legitimate question one of the regulars takes the time to explain and educate the person. Kudos to all of you on a job well done… Now, back to the snide comments..
Posted by Mike from La-La Land on 04/29 at 11:40 PMMan, Draper interview. To bad its not with the DC. He could deliver a wicked roundhouse.
Posted by Nate A on 04/29 at 11:41 PMOther topic… how ‘bout the freakin D Stars? Making mincemeat of the Left Coast. Funny.
Posted by RWBill on 04/29 at 11:41 PMStuart was trying to get cute on the line…
...Kronner has been silently dominant: 8 assists, most among any defensemen

Roger that Chief:
Twenty more minutes would make a nice birthday gift for Lidstrom and Uncle Mike!!

Didn’t the DC pick the Snorks to come out of the West?
I know he picked the Rangers in the East and Sidney and friends are going through NY like Oprah through a ham.
Posted by wingsfanindenver on 04/29 at 11:44 PMYea RWBill; I can’t believe they won.
Posted by Osrt on 04/29 at 11:45 PMAround 8 minutes of power play time in that period, but only 9 shots?
Posted by jrl123 on 04/29 at 11:45 PMSnorks?
Wow. Wingsfan, I think you just outed yourself as a child of the 80s.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 04/29 at 11:45 PMWell WingsinDenver, the DC is a hockey genius, that’s why no GM will offer him a position in the game.
Posted by RWBill on 04/29 at 11:46 PMthanks for the link, IWO. Datsyuk looks unbelievable. every time he’s on the ice, the Wings have a scoring chance. almost got the hat trick on the breakaway. i’m calling a Datsyuk hat trick tonight!
Posted by Alex from San Francisco on 04/29 at 11:46 PMAs much as I hate to say it, I think the Wings are really going to play tight defensively in the third.
Posted by Jeff - - OklahomaWingNut from Wind-Swept-Plains on 04/29 at 11:47 PMWow. Wingsfan, I think you just outed yourself as a child of the 80s.
What can I say? I like that better than “the Tuna”.
Anyone wanna take bets on Wilson’s tenure in SJ?
Yeah, but the 9 shots counted! Lockdown this mother now. Please no goals given up for at least 10 minutes! No early goals in this period.
Posted by RWBill on 04/29 at 11:48 PMDid you know Sammy dove on that Foppa high stick?
Posted by Paul from Motown Area on 04/29 at 11:49 PMAlright. Been drinking and have something unpopular to say.
Gabriel, definitely not the way to start a sentence. In AA they teach you that it is “not all about you.” So find a friend and stop drinking alone. At least that’s how I took their advice.
Me? I’m on the roof of the Hasek between periods hitting golf balls. Chief said we need to get out more on the other thread. C’mon up.... buck a ball...unless “Lucky” the three legged dog brings them back, then it’s free.
Posted by Rumbear from Sandy Eggo on 04/29 at 11:49 PMWell kids, it’s been fun, but between the pain and Vicodin, I’m toast. Here’s hoping things don’t go south after I go nighty-night. Have fun watching the rest of the game. See you all for game 4!
