Our Thoughts Are Wanderin’ Wally…And We’re Turning The Page To A Live Blog

I could have posted any number of Valtteri Filppula tribute videos tonite. I promise you, there is no shortage. But I felt dirty just sitting through a couple of them, so I’m falling back on an A2Y standby: Guralnick.
Hope everyone’s Christmas was good. It’s a wonderful time for fellowship and for clean, wholesome love you can talk about in front of everyone instead of the dirty kind you whisper about with your cousins when you think your dad and uncles aren’t listening, when in reality they’re talking about the same frigging thing.
But Christmas is over. It is.
And now it’s time for some BJ’s.
And maybe a win. Whatthefuchever, we’ll just take a goal.
Welcome home Wally.

Have fun with the liveblog all. I’ll be watching the game at a hometown watering hole with friends and family. Here’s hoping for a decent outcome bitches.

BTW, I love the first round of the WJC when the mismatched teams go at it. Canada up 12-0 on the Latvians just a few minutes into the 3rd period.
Also, Sweden killed the Czech republic.

13 and counting. And they won’t stop ‘cause goal differential is one of the tie-breakers. (That rule needs to be changed.)

Just wait until some kid has his career ended by a freak injury during a nine goal blowout. I agree that they should cut it at some point. I think five would be a good number. Want a tiebreaker from there? How about team with the fewest minutes played (quickest to reach the mercy point)?

At the Joe with my brothers and dad. Merry Christmas to the 19, I have to go find Murph and buy him a drink. Enjoy the live blog.

It is up to Babs to keep his shifts short, and make sure he is not eating up too much of the ice time from youngsters that are in tip-top shape.
Not sure about the live blog, I will be watching Devils/Caps and Hawks/Preds at the same time.
Late game Ducks/Sharks could be interesting.

Time to stoke up the engine and get the show on the road.

I never heard of that one before, but it sounds like a good idea.

The fact that Filppula is back is making me unnecessarily optimistic about this game… hopefully they come through for us!

Christmas lessons learned:
It isn’t the same without young kids around who are really into the Santa Claus concept and too nervous to go to sleep - and worried that mom and dad won’t go to sleep so Santa won’t come.
The “Circle of Life” hasn’t got squat to do with Lion King - it has everything to do with watching my sister and two brothers trying to figure out where all the stickers and little plastic pieces go according to instructions apparently written in cuneiform by a drunken Babylonian, while I keep the baby from eating Lincoln logs and the new dog from getting into the cat’s food while my parents laugh because they aren’t the ones assembling stuff for Christmas anymore.
Ah, the nights spent assembling toys until 3:00 am and then being woken up at 5:00 am by excited children. ![]()
Hope everyone had a good holiday.

Very true. It makes a huge difference. That’s why it’s great to have a Great Niece. I don’t have the Grandchildren. Yet.

Hey all. Really excited to see how things go with Filppula back.
Hope you all had a great holiday. It is always good with a 3 year old. Then grandma wouldn’t give him back so we played the Pierre McGuire World Junior Drinking Game today as we were kidless: http://twitpic.com/uw3eb
There are a lot of good games on tonight. Excellent night for hockey.

Thankfully we’re finally talking about someone rejoining the lineup after an injury. Let’s hope this the beginning of a good trend for the Wings.

He’s young enough to enjoy the mythology and not be cynical.
Hate to break it to you, but it really is just a concept, not a real person. Sorry.

As an aside, it’s good to be able to post somewhere that doesn’t really moderate comments.
Some people are just completely asinine when it comes to “power.”

We’re uninhibited enough to self-moderate. Instead of a comment getting deleted, something stupid or abusive just prompts six follow-up comments saying “dude, don’t be such a freaking jackass!” More effective that way.
I’ll be flipping between this and the CBC game and likely won’t be commenting too much because my hand will be busy with a couple of projects I want to finish up before the end of the year.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/26/09 at 07:09 PM ET
They’ve got more jump early, but I liked that hit by Meech.
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 12/26/09 at 07:11 PM ET
Might I suggest that the next funraiser we hold be to to get Dan O’halraon relocated to another state so he is not always refing Wings games???
Posted by Down River Dan on 12/26/09 at 07:13 PM ET
What the hell, are they trying to spot the Jackets a lead?
Posted by RedMenace from the darkest recesses on 12/26/09 at 07:15 PM ET
Good point Murph. I stand corrected. He’s frigging wasted.

I guess our PK needs to continue to have chances to improve ...
Posted by stonehands-78 from the beginning ... a WingsFan, on 12/26/09 at 07:17 PM ET
Nice two kills. Now how about we stop taking penalties and get some more chances?
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 12/26/09 at 07:19 PM ET
Jeez. Stupid fancy passes on the very first shift cost us possession for the first few minutes, leading to the first penalty and in turn the second…
Hopefully they’re ready to start playing now, although they looked damn good on the PK
And Filppula almost scored oh that would’ve been great

I agree, it’ll take a bit before Wally is back at 100% game shape. Only playing games can do that. That’s why I predicted he’s kept off the scoresheet. But, I think having him back will be a boost for the team. Not only because they get to see a guy who’s got a shitload of jump out there reminding them to keep their feet moving, but also because it seems like when an injury-plagued team gets guys back, it just seems like getting one of them back reminds the rest of ‘em that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that all those guys who “died” with their injuries are still out there and will be coming back eventually.
