Another Game 5 in Detroit. Another blowout. Another favorite completely flustered and, eventually, outclassed. Welcome to your 2007 Red Wings. Good news is obviously a victory as convincing as any we’ve seen in Detroit since a Game 7 in 2002. Bad news is, equally obviously, an injury to Mathieu Schneider that no one knows the extent of. Choose your source and you’ll hear anything from forearm to shoulder, broken to separated. More to follow.
For now?
Yes, for now..and Don Cherry can suck it. He must be thrilled to see the Wing Swedes’ performance today. Lilja drilling Grier to end the second, Zetterberg and Holmstrom battling after the horn. Samuelsson on a one-timer, Holmstrom making a difference so profound that their power play actually looks invincible. John Niyo blogged during the game that the Wings are 4-9 on the PP with him, 1-15 without.
And Zetterberg having his best game of the playoffs. 3 points…yes. But a physical presence that has to raise eyebrows on the set of HNIC.
The CO2 bottle errrr…SCUBA tank (thanks Shep) is lodged in its mouth and Roy Scheider is taking aim. Time to blow the hell out of the shark once and for all.

The whole second half of that game the Wings were rolling. They were clicking, every puck was right where it needed to be.
Monday night in San Jose is going to be a war. How will the Sharks respond? Will they lose composure and “Flame” out?

The non-call on Grier in the Third, when he punched Zetterberg in the head, near the blue line, was an indication of the frustration and the type of play that we’ll se in the next game. Hope the Wings shake it off as they did today. They have this series in hand. All they need do is not give it away…

Ouch. Schneider out for the “remainder of the series”...
I admit. I’m a wuss. The panic express may have not yet left the station, but I’ve been seated and have ordered my drink.

Gutsy, gritty win. Nice to see Nabokov finally join the brain fart contest with Hasek.
Don’t mean to nitpick…but SCUBA tanks don’t usually hold CO2. Aren’t you in the Navy or something

Wow, what a game. Some interesting coincidences, too…
Game #5, on 5/5, with Nicklas Lidstrom as the #1 star of the game.
How many total goals were scored? 5.
Just one more: Datsyuk gets his 5th goal and 5th assist of the playoffs as well.
The hockey gods of superstition smiled on this one.

That was a finely played game. After the first period, I had to put on my Probert jersey for the Wings to get a bit tougher, but they responded quite well.
I still would like to see the Wings get on Thornton a bit more. He has far too much room and time to pass/shoot the puck.
Go Wings!
