The Importance of Getting It

Hot Damn. It’s about time Jason Williams returned to form.  We’re going to need a little production from him as the playoffs get closer, especially with all those injuries.

What?  Oh.  My bad.

Funniest Babcock quote of the year (not written by me)? This one may be up there.

MLive/Khan(!)

Williams, traded to the Blackhawks on Monday for Calder, scored both goals for Chicago. His short-handed effort on a breakaway at 11:15 of the second period cut Detroit’s lead to 4-1. He added a power-play goal at 2:46 of the third.

“It’s good to see him score, too,” Babcock said of Williams. “What the heck.”

Hilarious, roll on the floor very close to bodily fluid expulsion kind of funny?  No.  But just funny.  I’ve got something else funny to show you too.  But you’ll have to wait.  Just a few minutes, don’t be sad.

So, let’s set aside our worries for a moment.  Forget injuries to Zetterberg, Hasek, Chelios, Samuellson, Cleary.  And look at last night’s performance minus those five.

Goals from Lang, Filpulla, Hudler and Franzen.  As much as I’ve ragged Hudler, called for his trade, his benching, suspension of pacifier priveleges and whatever else I could think of, he’s proven that given the right amount of minutes he’s a capable young man.

And, by God, will you look at the Enigma...in all his glory, skates barely touching the ice, a radiant circle of light surrounding him and his hair as he racks up four points.

Freep/Sipple

“Spent a lot of time in the offensive zone,” Wings coach Mike Babcock said. “It’s great to see him get the points, obviously. When you’re a points generator and you don’t get it for a while, it’s great to have that off your back.”

Exactly.  If you’re not getting it, things just keep getting worse and worse.  I’m a Sailor. I know.

Chris Osgood agrees.

Detnews/Kulfan

“Every time I get more action, I feel better,” Osgood said.

Good thing the boys aren’t giving those quotes on the road or there would be some domestic challenges.  Not good.

On hand to witness Nick Lidstrom’s 200th last night?  Behind the Jersey’s own Christy Hammond.  Want evidence, here you go.

Christy’s the second jersey-clad fan from the left.  Now, I want you to open your minds for a moment.  Pretend for me that you’re not a hockey fan, that you just open the sports section this morning and see that picture.  You have no idea there is a pane of glass in front of Christy, her pal and the other fans.  Why the hell are they waving, and why are they all waving exactly the same way?  Is this some sort of sick cult in metro Detroit?

So, yeah, I thought that was funny too.

Ah, tomorrow the Dive come to town.  Fun for the whole family, especially with Scott Parker in the lineup for Denver.  What a pickup.  Matinee game, NBC, hopefully a full house at the Joe.  And hopefully the beatdown the Dive deserve.  On the other hand, I’d hate to see the Dique fall out of that precious 9 spot in the West, especially when they’re a mere 10 points out of a playoff spot.

Oh, hey...remember the occasional bellow from the rafters?  You know the one.  “Trade for Bondra!” How ya feeling about that now?  Nice quote from Denis Savard this morning.

Chicago Sun Times

‘’[Bondra] made a mistake on their second goal,’’ Savard said. ‘’He plays two nights in a row and he gets tired, then he doesn’t think well out there.’’

Okay, the sailor joke was really funny.

That picture of Christy pretty cool.  Here’s another one from NHL.com that has a great crowd reaction:

Willy is a good guy, and has a lot of friends on the Wings, prominent among them, Babcock.  Good on him.

Great to see Filpulla and Hudler playing so well.

At some point, these injuries may reach critical mass and really hurt.  Maybe Tuesday vs. Nashville?

Datsyuk is really earning his money now.  Truth is, he has been working hard for the last couple of months.  I hope that Holland re-signs him before the playoffs.
