1818 EST: Ahhh…Andreas. Man.
![]()
1747 EST: Just watched the Franzen attempted clear several times. Hard to tell for sure, it’s obscured, but it sure looks like that puck cleared the zone. Real tough to tell though.
1735 EST: Bertuzzi has played one normal and one short shift in the third. Could be due to the nature of the third, and the Wings obvious defensive emphasis. Draper on the PP now instead of Bertuzzi.
1542 EST: For Paul who’s on a plane somewhere. Teams look fairly even, although Ducks are cycling and grinding better. As Kukla pointed out in a comment below, the Getzlaf line is dangerous, mainly due to the defensive deficiencies of R. Lang and his mates. Wings seems to be picking up steam with 5+ minutes left.
1515 EST and the Stress Train was delayed by NBC execs. Here now. Board if you must. Warm beer on the house.

I normally have a strong intuition of which way the game will go but don’t mention anything lest my psychic powers are depleted by the superstitious hockey gods.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a clue today….I’m totally on board….
good luck to all..

You could go along with the conventional wisdom…CW is that the Red Wings missed their one and only chance to win the series by not taking advantage of pronger being out, so now they will fold easily before the mighty ducks.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/20/07 at 02:25 PM ET
The Getzlaf line is dominating the Lang line. Wings need to avoid that matchup.
Posted by Paul from Motown Area on 05/20/07 at 02:41 PM ET
somebody please post how they look so far. posting from my phone aboard my stress plane.
Posted by Paul from Miami Beach on 05/20/07 at 02:42 PM ET
Pretty even Paul, not flat but not flying describes both teams, and both goalies have one stellar save a piece.
Posted by Hoser from Downer Peninsula, Michigan on 05/20/07 at 02:46 PM ET
Just posted an update for you Paul. It’s at the top of this post.
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 05/20/07 at 02:46 PM ET
thanks guys. taking off at 4:15pm, game should be over when we land…I’m going to see if the pilot can give updates
have my Red Wings DVD set for good luck.

Paul, I’d recommend watching the Wing/Blues Game 7. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion this one may be OT bound.
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 05/20/07 at 03:11 PM ET
If it goes to OT, at least there isn’t a horse race scheduled today.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/20/07 at 03:20 PM ET
WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Peter on 05/20/07 at 03:23 PM ET
Great play by Cleary. Huge play. Funny. When he sen that pass back toward the blue line the player he was passing it to hadn’t appeared on the screen yet. I assumed it was Lidstrom…nope.
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 05/20/07 at 03:25 PM ET
Whoa…Franzen has 6 shots?!
Hope the Mule gets a goal for all that effort.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/20/07 at 03:57 PM ET
Well, anyone not see that coming?
Pathetic.

I’ve got a sneaking suspicion this one may be OT bound.
Thanks for the heads up Chief…

This is why I called window seat—in case I need to puke out the window.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/20/07 at 04:47 PM ET
What the heck was that, Wings were just a minute away from being up 3-2. I threw a pillow after the Ducks scored, that made me so mad. Now OT. I don’t think I can take it.
I hate the playoffs.
Posted by hockeychic from front seat on the stress train on 05/20/07 at 04:48 PM ET
Pathetic.
I disagree - just a bad sequence. If Franzen gets a better clear (bouncing puck?), if Lidstrom either doesn’t block the shot at all or blocks it completely, and if Dom reacts to the puck better, we’re up 3-2.
Damn it, damn it, damn it. I just hope Babs can fire up the Wings during this intermission - the last OT they came out flat and lost the game.
Posted by Peter on 05/20/07 at 04:48 PM ET
They came out very flat to start the 3rd and what is up with the PP? I hope they come out the way they played most of the third to start OT. Giggy was giving up some big rebounds towards the end of regulation.
Posted by hockeychic from driving the stress train perhaps on 05/20/07 at 04:50 PM ET
At least they are not going to horse racing or such. More importantly, we’ve been the best team on the ice and have a much deeper bench:
I call Franzen for overtime hero, although Cleary is shaping up to be a god.
Posted by srt on 05/20/07 at 04:50 PM ET
I agree, Chief. Not trying to clog up the thread here. I kept hollering that the play was offsides. Oh well. Gotta let it go.
Posted by hockeychic from denver, co on 05/20/07 at 04:51 PM ET
The Wings dominated in the 2nd and 3rd. The Ducks score with 45 seconds left. Crap.
But why can’t we score on the PP today?
Posted by Christy on 05/20/07 at 04:53 PM ET
Franzen has about a bazillion shots—easy choice.
I call Zetterberg. No points yet—he has to come through eventually.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/20/07 at 04:53 PM ET
I need to find out what’s up with bertuzzi. I can’t recall seing him in the third.
Posted by matt from royal oak on 05/20/07 at 04:54 PM ET
Forgot—Zetterberg in the 2nd overtime. I think the Wings are trying to kill us all from hyperventilation and heart palpitations.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/20/07 at 04:55 PM ET
I’m not calling anyone, I’m too busy looking for my barf bag.
Posted by hockeychic from stress train conductor on 05/20/07 at 04:55 PM ET
Geez, Paul—I read that real quick and thought it was over already because I saw “F*** Marchant!”
I hate the playoffs.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/20/07 at 05:02 PM ET
come ooooooooooooon, power play!
Posted by Peter on 05/20/07 at 05:10 PM ET
any tv or radio announcer word on bertuzzi?
Posted by matt from royal oak on 05/20/07 at 05:13 PM ET
Not that I’ve seen or heard Matt.
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 05/20/07 at 05:15 PM ET
NBC just panned Wings bench. No sign of 44.
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 05/20/07 at 05:16 PM ET
F&*#ing Lilja.
Posted by Peter on 05/20/07 at 05:21 PM ET
Well, there went the series right there. A turnover right to Selanne. FRACCCK!
Posted by hockeychic from denver, co on 05/20/07 at 05:21 PM ET
At this point, if Teemu was killed by a bus, I’d laugh.
Go Sens!
&^#$^&$#@@%^&*^$#*&$#
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/20/07 at 05:23 PM ET
Of all people, you knew Teemu wasn’t going to miss. Sigh. Wings couldn’t shut him down forever. Poor Lilja, from hero to goat…. Well, it was a fun run while it lasted.
Posted by hockeychic from denver, co on 05/20/07 at 05:25 PM ET
Don Cherry will be pleased as punch. Anaheim has the edge over the Senators goaltending-wise, so once again it takes a good Canadian captain to win the Cup.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/20/07 at 05:27 PM ET
So frustrating, the Wings played so well, they were outhitting and outshooting the Ducks and then one big goof up and Teemu delivered. The Wings dominated the second and third period. It is a very tough loss to swallow.
Posted by hockeychic from bummed out on 05/20/07 at 05:33 PM ET
Well, I’m not going to count our boys out ‘til the final horn blows. It was a tough loss, for sure, but we carried the play again, today.
The skate is on our throat… let’s see how they respond.
Posted by Ryan from Syracuse, NY on 05/20/07 at 05:34 PM ET
Lucky I’m not within reach of the Ducks. I’ll feel less murderous tomorrow, but right now cutting the brake lines on the team bus sounds like fun. Either that, or they’d find poison arrow frogs and scorpions in their luggage on the way back to California.
Everyone who likes lots of fighting in hockey will be happy.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/20/07 at 05:40 PM ET
Well Chief, your call about Paul watching that series against St. Louis may have more to it than we anticipated. Double overtime game 7 winner? Scored by the c^aptain?
hope against hope? I just want life to be fair, and we’re owed two games.

Posted by srt on 05/20/07 at 05:52 PM ET
I’m pretty freakin pissed, but I’m not about to believe this series is anywhere near over. The Wings have worked hard enough and played well enough to have already won this series. As long as they are playing well, I feel good about their chances - game 7 is at JLA.
Oh, and would somebody please truck Scott Niedermayer for me already? Damn I can’t stand him…
Posted by Hoser from Downer Peninsula, Michigan on 05/20/07 at 06:03 PM ET
Andreas Lilja is the anti-christ. The depths of my hatred for this man really knows no bounds. There aren’t words in the English language to sufficiently illustrate how much I really, really hate him. Really. All year long I’ve been spouting off to anyone that would listen to me (and many that wouldn’t listen) about how bad he is, how he played a big role in the loss to Edmonton last year and how it was a huge mistake to resign him. I really don’t know what Kenny and Babcock were on at the time but I’d love to have some of it. Can we please put him on the DL and bring up some kid, anyone really, from Grand Rapids to get his lumbering unintelligent a*s off the ice for Game 6?
Posted by SDWingNut from San Diego, CA on 05/20/07 at 06:19 PM ET
They’ve already got Derek Meech hanging around. They can slot him in Lilja’s spot if he were, for example, to meet with a fan-sponsored unfortunate accident.
Unfortunately, Hoser, things like” deserve” and “fair” have nothing to do with anything. If it did, then Pronger would find his California home infested with those venomous hybrid spiders of death from Arachnophobia when he gets back.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 05/20/07 at 06:24 PM ET
reading the comments about Lilja considering all the praise heaped on him throughout the playoffs.
come on, guys…you’re all talking like the series is over. it isn’t. mark my words - bounces even themselves out. Anaheim has been getting them, but it’ll change.
we’ve seen how the Wings play when faced with a little adversity (there’s that word again) and now it’s heaped on.
it’s almost as if the Wings thrive on the pressure and don’t want anything to be easy.
heh. the confirmation image says “near16” [sigh]
Posted by Paul from Miami Beach on 05/20/07 at 06:35 PM ET
I would agree with above comments, one lucky bounce (Homer’s bounce off his glove perhaps?) and Detroit is up 3-2. Remember 2 things, the Colorado series when they went up 3-2 and the Vancover series when Vancover had all the breaks and were up 2-0, both in 2002. If Detroit was getting outplayed I’d have concerns, I do wish they’d drive the net a bit more and stop those perimeter shots, but overall I’ve liked the way they’ve played. Last year there’s no way this team could even handle the physical series
Posted by bababooey on 05/20/07 at 06:42 PM ET
The Wings certainly aren’t out of it and have a very good shot of winning 2 straight if they can keep holding Anaheim to <20 shots per game. They need to work harder than they did during the majority of regulation time today and they need a few breaks to go their way. They also need to get Lilja’s lame a*s off the frickin ice. The commentators and writers that were praising Lilja shortly after Schneider went down were deluding themselves and everyone else; Lilja was just waiting for the prime moment to pull off one of the biggest mistakes in recent playoff history.
Posted by SDWingNut from San Diego, CA on 05/20/07 at 07:21 PM ET
bababooey,
You do know that a bounce off the glove is an illegal goal, right? Had Homer’s bouncer gone into the goal they would have most likely had it video reviewed and subsequently disallowed…
Hoser, I totally agree with you regarding Scott Niedermeyer. Somebody should definitely take a major pummeling him if it’s decidedly a no windown in Anaheim. The man looks like a skunk’s ass, and should be treated like one.
