Train Delay: Now Boarding

1818 EST:  Ahhh…Andreas.  Man.

image

1747 EST: Just watched the Franzen attempted clear several times.  Hard to tell for sure, it’s obscured, but it sure looks like that puck cleared the zone.  Real tough to tell though.

1735 EST:  Bertuzzi has played one normal and one short shift in the third.  Could be due to the nature of the third, and the Wings obvious defensive emphasis.  Draper on the PP now instead of Bertuzzi.

1542 EST: For Paul who’s on a plane somewhere.  Teams look fairly even, although Ducks are cycling and grinding better. As Kukla pointed out in a comment below, the Getzlaf line is dangerous, mainly due to the defensive deficiencies of R. Lang and his mates.  Wings seems to be picking up steam with 5+ minutes left.

1515 EST and the Stress Train was delayed by NBC execs.  Here now. Board if you must.  Warm beer on the house.

Had he punched it in, yes it’s illegal, but I thought if it just hit him incidentially it was a goal

Watching the replay of the last 10 seconds of the game over and over gave me the same sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that I thought I could only get from watching Bill Buckner attempt to field a ground ball at first base. Or watching UM’s Chris Webber calling a timeout he didn’t have in that game against the Tarholes a few years back. Jeeez, that was brutal. Different sports, same feeling.

So Chief, what are you working on for your Game 7 post?

Wings fans are hilarious.

Christ, and I don’t even like Anaheim.

Oh well, chalk it up to playoff hysteria, but the amount of excuses after every loss…  c’mon now.

On a side note, I particularly enjoy the squirming when questioned why the J. Louis or wherever the *#$%@& the Wings play is not sold out.

“Oh it’s the economy”, “oh it’s because the organisation has jerked the fans around”, “oh, oh, oh, oh”...

My absolute favourite is “oh, well since the Red Wings’ arena is bigger than ‘arena x’, it doesn’t matter.  We woulda sold it out if the arena were only smaller.”

It is to laugh - As if the Leafs, Oilers, Flames, Canucks, Habs, Sabres, etc. wouldn’t sell 30,000 tickets if the arenas were large enough.

American hockey has struck me as hilarious since I was 10 years old and road-tripping with a travelling team outta Manitoba to a Minnesota tourney where they’d gather all the teams into the arena for an opening ceremony which would consist of some fat hick with a horrible midwestern accent proclaiming “LET’S PLAY HACKEY” to the delight of the Yank fan…

It’s admirable that you all wanna support our game, but for *#$%@& sake, can you stop with the endless bitching and complaining ?  Your whims have *#$%@& it all up enough.  If you truly love the sport, keep yer yaps shut and let those of us who grew up with the game ingrained in our psyche call the shots.  You’ve got no claim to this sport, and the NHL has become progressively worse trying to lure your NASCAR-loving asses over the last 10 or so years.  Stick with yer NBA finals and leave the real athletics for those of us who don’t require a wheelchair, Dwyane Wade-style, when we encounter physical adversity.

Hockeytown my ass, I’d bet dollars to doughnuts 99% of you couldn’t pick John Ogrodnick out of a lineup.

Sorry for the rant, fellas, I’m just sick and tired of the constant bending over backwards the Bettman-led NHL has done for Yank interests and it’s possible the Sat/Sun afternoon games shattered the spine of my particular dromedary.

Also, you’ve been given 80 years at this shit and Patty LaFontaine is the best you could come up with.  No offense to Patty LaFontaine but really.  Could you maybe try a bit harder ?

“Endless bitching and complaining” from the Wings fans?? Have you even ever *looked* at Oilfans.com?? If you want to learn about bitching and complaining, that’s a great first place to start. I guess it’s called “passion” when America-Lite residents complain about their teams to the north, but when Wings fans discuss the last game it’s bitching and complaining.

And Johnny O didn’t win over half the hearts in Detroit that Harold Snepts did for his style of play. Learn your hockey history before you spout off as an “expert”

SDWingnut -

I couldn’t give a shit what Oilfans.com has to say, this isn’t the point - every webboard acts as a magnet for the knuckle-draggers of our special little corner of the internet.

In fact, I’m not sure I’m blown away by the strength of the “well, other teams’ fans whine worse than us” argument you seem to be proffering, either.

And yeah, SDWingnut - it’s “Snepsts”, you idiot.

I never claimed to be an expert but if yer gonna take that angle for yer rebuttal at least spell the *#$%@& name right.

I was living in Vancouver for the run to the Cup in ‘82 back when the Wings were perennial bed-shitters and I’m sure none of you cared either way - big Harold patrolled the line for us then, if you really wanna measure hockey history dicks you’re barking up the wrong tree.

Learn my hockey history, don’t make me laugh.
