Don’t really care about the circumstances that led to Sammy telling the Swedes to Faux off. Not concerned that Ville Leino isn’t playing in Vancouver either, unless it means the next time the Wings play the Canucks. In that case, I dig it. But I like that Valtteri Filppula’s earned himself a spot with the Fin(n)s. And I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping to see our Oompa Loompa play some Olympic hockey.
He won’t be. The Czechs left him off.
Think that would have happened if he was sitting at ten or twelve goals with the Wings right now? Me either.
Here’s a list of the Czech forwards “better” than Hudler.
Petr Cajanek (Saint-Pétersbourg/RUS), Roman Cervenka (Slavia Prague/CZE), Patrik Elias (New Jersey Devils/NHL), Martin Erat (Nashville Predators/NHL), Tomas Fleischmann (Washington Capitals/NHL), Martin Havlat (Minnesota Wild/NHL), Jaromir Jagr (Avangard Omsk/NHL), David Krejci (Boston Bruins/NHL), Milan Michalek (Ottawa Senators/NHL), Tomas Plekanec (Canadiens de Montréal/NHL), Tomas Rolinek (Magnitogorsk/RUS), Josef Vasicek (Yaroslavl/RUS).
And in case you hadn’t heard? Our CMOI won’t be playing either.

Kopecky too. He must be way better.
Kopecky’s Slovak, Deuce, so there’s no way he’ll be named to the Czech team. Of course, given his fabulous performance for the Chickenhawks so far, there’s about an equal chance of him making the Slovak national team…

Just saw that Miroslav Blatak’s on the team. Keep an eye out—technically, we still hold his NHL rights.

Deuce, Kopy’s Slovak, so that explains that. I’m surprised about Hejduk. And good for Wally that his talent is recognized despite missing most of this season.

According to ESPN, Kopy did make the Slovak team. How the hell? No wonder we’re suffering this year.

Whoops. My bad, for some reason I thought both him and Hossa were Czech. Wrong on both counts. They did both make the Slovakia team though. Must be thinking back to when it was Czechoslovakia.

Wasn’t there something in the whole Hudler fiasco that if he took the KHL deal he would be ineligible to qualify for international play? I thought I remembered reading something about that, can’t seem to stumble upon the link though.

Maybe, but $10,000,000 untaxed can buy a lot of sweetener.

Yes at one time the International organization was going to withhold his international playing card, or whatever it is. I think they gave up on that and granted it to him anyway. Probably moot point now.

I’m still trying to find the result of the Wings game Sunday night versus the Wild. InDemand sent me this email on Sunday 27 Dec 09 that sent me into a hissy fit since I couldn’t find the game anywhere and I haven’t missed one this season yet. Anyone know the final score of the Wings game that was sandwiched between the two BJ games?
Posted by RWBill from the Land of 12 in 12. on 12/30/09 at 10:30 AM ET
That’s absolutely astounding. For someone who’s 12th in scoring in the KHL (14g, 20a) to be left off of a national team roster… AND they left off Roman Hamrlik for good measure
Not the only team to have made some odd choices, for sure.

Not quite on a par with Doyle Alexander for unproven prospect John Smoltz. Ya takes your chances and at the time Lang was leading or close to leading the NHL in goals scored. At the time this was considered a steal and another genius move by the BrainTrust.
Fleischmann proly could have been a good fit in Detroyet the last couple of years.

3 emotional rivalry games at the World Juniors Thursday..
Sweden vs. Finland
Russia vs. Czech
Canada vs USA (730 pm, don’t know if video available in USA)
I first typed in WJC and got World Jewish Congress and wondered if they were on skates, then got pointed to the correct search term WJHC.

My youngest daughter gave me the most excellent Christmas gift, the Bacon Lover’s Survival Pack. Yes the Baconnaise is incredible. It’s even vegetarian AND Kosher!

.
Also being big fans of A Christmas Story she gave me a replica of the famous lamp, but much smaller table top size. “Frajee-lay, Must be Italian”. “I think it says Fragile.” “Oh.”

.
Lastly, to keep the true Christmas spirit in mind we put His initials on my home made, Granny Smith pie.

I’ll periodically peek in on the US/Can WJC game, but I’ve seen nothing in the US the past three games to show me they have what it takes to even make tomorrow’s game interesting.
The US team takes too many penalties, and through no fault of their own is a team lacking talent this year. Add Canada’s speed, and I would be very surprised if the New Year’s Eve tilt will be worth watching after two periods.
Hope I’m wrong, though.

Looking at game times, the Wings say 7:00, and the Juniors is 8:00 ET, so at worst you may be able to watch the 3rd period of the Jrs game live.
It’s a good thing I don’t have off work every day, I have spent almost the entire morning here with my fake friends instead of picking up empty Christmas boxes. Sorry for the overwhelming number of posts.

That’s interesting. Not so Happy. Happy’s international status seems somewhat murky based on this article: http://www.iihf.com/home-of-hockey/news/news-singleview/article/iihf-approves-hudler-transfer.html
Yes, he has his card, but only on a technicality.
Obviously USA Hockey did not approve of what Hudler did. Maybe the Czechs are sticking with the Americans and/or slighting the Russians?

From the previous thread:
Lilija. He’s gone. What you are seeing is the benevolence of the Organ I zation in keeping him around. 10 months of headaches and he’s gonna comeback to play? Too risky. Time to get real. File this one under Troy Aikman/Steve Young and move on.
It may be that he is done, but the Wings have to pay him as long as he’s under contract. Benevolence will show when/if they sign him to a new contract this off season even if his condition remains the same.
Posted by monkey from here to Timbuktu on 12/30/09 at 01:44 PM ET
With Happy, too, it could be a gentleman’s agreement type situation. USA Hockey didn’t sign off on the transfer, therefore Czech Hockey won’t recognize it. Or maybe they just don’t like him. Or he didn’t pay the hookers and they have friends in high places.

A lot of predictions concerning the makeup of the Olympic rosters were thrown about here over the summer. I think most proved to be wrong, actually.
I think most realistic Pens fans (myself included in that) thought Crosby had a shot at the C, but was not the favorite. Personally, I thought it would be Iginla. Wearing the “A” is nothing to laugh at, either. Frankly, the entire roster is made up of guys who could wear the C (except Richards).

Sorry, Chief, no dice. I looked back and saw one guy talking about how funny it would be if Crosby were given Canada’s C, but then tempered it with the idea that he thought it wouldn’t happen. I do remember something along those lines, but it’s not where I thought it was.
Although, reading all that was a good reminder of Lindasfarne’s good ol’ passive-aggressive days.
