Wing Fans Stress and Ken Hitchcock Whines…A Dirty Combination

Ken Hitchcock feels the Wings are “cheating” in the faceoff circle.
“So we’re going to cheat just like they are. (On) the power-play goal they scored, their winger went in (early); good for him. We’re going to do the same thing. It’ll be interesting to see who gets kicked out (of the faceoff circle) first.”
The Red Wings think Hitchcock is a joke.
“They’ve got a good faceoff team, too, don’t kid yourself,’’ Wings forward Dan Cleary said. “Don’t think they don’t cheat. It’s just that we’re better at cheating, that’s all.’‘
Henrik Zetterberg told the story of a book published by a linesman several years back that named a Red Wing as the best faceoff cheater in the league. He wouldn’t name the player.
Kris Draper then admitted that former linesman Ray Scapinello once called him the biggest faceoff cheater he had ever seen.
“Scotty (former coach Bowman) asked me, ‘Why do you keep getting kicked out of the draws?’ I said, ‘I don’t know. Ask Scappy.’ ‘’
Draper also was surprised that Zetterberg was aware of the book.
“I’m surprised he can read,’’ Draper said. “Pavel (Datsyuk) probably read it to him.’‘
Asked how good a cheater he is on faceoffs, Zetterberg said, “Not as great a cheater as ... we have better ones out there.’‘
A2Y 19 Plankowner O-Joe? He tried to hold off as long as he could, but he’s seen enough. His art is as follows:

Pregame Caps / Rangers interview with Mike Greene. He’s sporting the fauxhawk with highlights on the tips. What a doucher. The fauxhawk is this generation’s version of the mullet.

Ahh totally excellent. Silly Bitchcock. I think our wingers should back off on faceoffs today after setting up to make their cheating obvious, just for a few plays.

Ha, Mr, new-norris hangs his goalie out to dry. 1-0 Rags.

First Rangers goal scored on an odd-man rush caused by Ovie throwing the puck to a blank spot and Green jumping too far forward without Kozlov getting back to cover.

Nice moves by Cherry-pickin-Ovechkin. Damn, Lundqvist is good.
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 04/18/09 at 12:40 PM ET
End of the first. Despite the score being 1-0 Rangers, I thought that the Caps carried the play most of the way. Lundqvist came up big a few times. Neither team really looked overly sharp though. There were a few sloppy line changes and each team seemed content to let the other guys carry it through the neutral zone.

What’s this? No DC on the NBC broadcast? Is he interviewing in Colorado?
Pang is so much better. He actually thinks about things he says….did Milburry just say “Face-rape”??

Maybe “face rake” - if they were talking about the stuff at the end of the Montreal - Boston game. I’ve heard a few guys use that.

^ Lol.
I don’t understand why Panger ever went away. I can’t believe anyone would take the DC seriously.

Screw NBC for not broadcasting the Wings game. I’m blasting Live Bullet to get the entire neighborhood fired up for the Wings game (or pissed off enough to call the cops for disturbing the peace).
Posted by CaptainDennisPolonich from Warm and sunny SoCal on 04/18/09 at 01:33 PM ET
Yeah, we’ll go with what Baroque said. It was a discussion on the Komisarek incident.
Also, that moron needs to learn to stop interrupting people and talking over them. He’s been horrible about it for CBC, and wasn’t much better at this intermission.

Is this game on TV anywhere?? I see it listed on the net on the page that shall remain nameless.

End of 2nd, still 1-0 Rangers.
All I’m saying about this one is that Boudreau would be well-suited to throw out a Wizard of Oz reference in the intermission. This team can’t decide between no brains, no heart, no courage, or just wanting to go home.
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 04/18/09 at 01:51 PM ET
The game is on the NHL channel tonight.

Since the game is on the NHL network will I be able to get it on NHL.com gamecenter?

I’m too used to seeing Detroit playing.
I see a power play for a team in red, with no one anywhere near the front of the net, and my first thought is “where the heck is Holmstrom?”
The Capitals’ rookie goaltender looks excellent, though. They just can’t get him any goals at all in support.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 04/18/09 at 02:23 PM ET
@Aimee. The game appears to be on the schedule but you never know with Gary.Ass.

Lundqvist is good enough to carry the Blue Shirts into the second round. The Caps are looking “not good.” Bitches.

It’s going to really suck for the kid if he loses this game 1-0 on a goal he couldn’t have helped.

Oops, try again:
—Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock continues to keep his lineup changes—if there are any—under tight wraps. Once again, there were no line rushes—a drill where the forwards who are playing together that night rush the puck up ice—with Mike Babcock and others Red Wings personnel sitting in the stands. My guess is there might be one or two changes, tops. I’d look for Derek Dorsett to draw in.
—The Jackets believe they let the Wings off the hook after falling behind 3-1. The word “discouraged” was mentioned several times today in the locker room. The Jackets are by no means an offensive juggernaut, but they have demonstated the ability to rally from two-goal deficits. Not in Game 1. The Jackets got two third-period shots.
Jason Williams said, if nothing, else they needed to keep firing pucks on Chris Osgood. “Sometimes when you are playing a team like Detroit and you fall down a couple goals, you might think ‘It’s over,’ but it’s not. Throughout the season they gave up some late goals. We just have to stick with it. When you starting showing them too much respect that’s when they pour it on . . . We got to keep putting pucks on Ossy, he’s going to start letting them in . . . We are not testing him enough. Eight shots in (the last two periods). I could play in goal.”

Agreed. He’s been extremely poised.
Regardless of the end result of this game, I think their best option is to keep him in net for the next game. Varlamov has played much better than Theodore, and in the playoffs you have to go with small sample sizes because there is no other option.

I like this gem from Puck-Rakers;
Hitchcock is a big believer that a series doesn’t start until the road team wins a game.
Under those circumstances, I’d be ok if this series never “started”.
Posted by J.J. from Kansas on 04/18/09 at 02:42 PM ET
1 goal in 78 minutes of play is not likely to get you into the 2nd round.

(Sorry for the exclamation points and multiple question marks)

Wow, hell of a game by Lundqvist. Caps getting so many chances, but nothing going in. Nice work by the new kid too.
Why do I have to wait another 2 hours now?
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 04/18/09 at 02:45 PM ET
We got to keep putting pucks on Ossy, he’s going to start letting them in…
- Jason Williams
Osgood’s a LOT better than you think, Jason. Or have you already forgotten what a pissed off Osgood can do? Either way, he’s still kickin’ your ass.

Sorry, that was poorly worded. I would be ok if we won the series in seven, but I wouldn’t be happy about it.
