You Don’t Deal With The Devil

And that’s exactly what the St. Louis organization is thinking. Trading “within the division” is a minor consideration where the Wings are concerned. The levels of hatred, bitterness and jealousy in that town, directed toward Detroit, is so pervasive that we should all be ridiculed for thinking for one second that Holland has a shot at Guerin, or that Tkachuk was a serious possibility.
Bill Guerin is not coming to Detroit, and we all know why. The only thing more consistent in St. Louis than playoff failure is their ongoing hatred of Hockeytown. Have you ever seen a fanbase hate the Wings like the Blues’ does? I mean, these are generally knowledgable hockey fans who lose their frigging minds when the subject of Detroit comes up.
John Davidson has to see that, and realize he’d be strung up if he sent Guerin to Hockeytown…no matter the deal he gets in return. Blues fans would immediately consider any deal one sided in our favor, because they’ve grown so used to being violated by the Wings. Playoffs, regular season, whatever. Blues fans are the bitter short men of NHL fans.
My prediction remains Todd Bertuzzi, maybe with a dash of Smolinski thrown in. I know Bertuzzi won’t play until after the deadline but Holland’s not getting Guerin and already lost out on Tkachuk and Bubba Swede. By the way, letting JP Dumont dance his way to Nashville and now allowing Bubba to land Floppa immediately qualifies Holland as David Poile’s punching bag of a little brother, or his bitch; depending on your sensitivities.
Gary Roberts is a waste of time and space at this stage of his career. Spector mentions Owen Nolan as a possibility and the idea doesn’t offend me, but he wouldn’t have the impact of a Guerin.
But Guerin’s a non-factor folks. JD’s operating under an “anyone but the Wings” mandate.

I’ve suggested lots of things, and a few times I may not have been telling the whole truth. The Blues won’t be dealing with the Wings any time soon.

I am not saying a deal will not happen with the Blues and Wings, I am just saying JD sounds prepared to make a deal with them if they put the best deal on the table for Guerin. He responded to the radio host’s comment, about tired of seeing popular ex-Blues win Cups with the Wings, by saying (paraphrasing here), perhaps we can do the same with any players we can get from in a trade. He iterated that he was looking for the best deal he could find.

Edit: That should read: “deal will happen with the Blues and Wings”

It does seem like JD might not deal within his own division, although some hockey writers still say Detroit is where Guerin might land.

Pleae not Bertuzzi. I couldn’t stomach that.

I wouldn’t think Davidson would let the rivalry* get it the way of doing what’s best for his club.
That said, J.D. was pretty PO’d at the Wings—Mike Ilitch in particular—when the evil capitalist owner made a mad dash to the officials’ room between periods after the no-call of Dallas Drakes’ hit on Lebda.
*in St. Louis fans’ eyes only. Sorta like the ‘rivalry’ Detroit has with Columbus.

Good point, O-Joe.
We here in Columbus love our rivalry with the Wings. It only incenses Jacket fans more when they hear that the feeling is not returned.
Good luck to all in the stretch run. Our ship sank long ago.

He suggested otherwise in a radio interview earlier this week when a similar sentiment was made by the radio host.
