About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

Does confusion make you sad? When you read words like “enigma” and phrases like “Thanks Gary. Ass”, do you wonder why mean people speak in languages you don’t understand? Fret no longer friend! The A2Y Glossary will bring you great joy and enlightenment.

How Others View The A2Y 19
“Hell, I guarantee the content co-opters at Abel to Yzerman were about to link this article under the heading “Bitter Blues Fans” again right up until they just read that last half-sentance. Thanks but no thanks, you Kukla hangers-on.”
--St. Louis Game Time
“I realize it’s the slow summer season, but can this guy tone down the tough-guy histrionics? His posts are fatiguing on an otherwise excellent site.”
--A2Y Fan, Eternal_Fields
“I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season.”
--Mile High Hockey
“I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…”
--In The Cheap Seats
“It’s just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don’t deserve their team.”
--Thhom
“I really don’t care what fans or bloggers think.”
--Drew Sharp
“Why is it you Detroit fans are still so classless when you have such a classy hockey team, with such a professional GM and gentlemen players? I understand that the author of this blog is a manner-less cad, but the rest of you should be better.”
--A2Y Fan, Jeff Beaumont

Chemistry
by IwoCPO on 03/08/08 at 10:26 AMComments (16)
Here’s what I know about chemistry. In tenth grade I failed it, and I mean miserably. The innocent young maiden sitting next to me tried to help by drawing the entire periodic table on her thigh then letting me look at it during tests (and only during tests you sick bastards), but even that didn’t work. I applaud her efforts though. Sweet girl. Grew up on a farm, then moved to the big city to try to get into acting, only to find talent alone...nevermind.

Pain in HD
by IwoCPO on 11/29/07 at 09:46 AMComments (3)
Yes. The Wing/Lightning (tilt, matchup) game (scrum, bonanza, faceoff, match, tete a tete) tonite is on HDNet. Damn, now that’s some good news. I can’t imagine being able to watch Derek Meetch on a wing in anything other than high definition. And of course you know why Uncle Mike’s considering putting Meech on the wing, because Kris Draper’s out with a knee. And Kirk Maltby’ s most likely out with a shoulder. And Matt Ellis is out with, yeah, a head.
Here’s my stance on Wing injuries: anyone but Zetterberg and Lidstrom. I, like you, lull myself into some idiotic rationalization regarding ailments. “As long as it’s not...”, or an even better one, “good thing he got hurt in November and not March.” I want to punch myself in the temple every time I catch myself thinking that, as if an injury in the first quarter of the season fulfills a quota that would prevent bad things in April. Godddd...idiot.
Oh...you’re above that? Okaayyyy. Lying liar.
One Liners: Minor, Major, Does It Matter?

Kris Draper’s a frigging rebel. On a night when the boxscore could have made an emphatic statement, he had to go and throw a shorty in there. If not for his unassisted goal in the second the entire scoresheet would have been dominated by the to this point unnamed Zetterberg, Homer and Datsyuk line.

Game 1 Impressions
by IwoCPO on 10/04/07 at 05:50 AMComments (17)
You can see the post below for the whining, now for the good stuff.
Jiri Hudler needed that. He needed to start with a jolt of confidence and it would appear that Uncle Mike has proven his genius once again by putting the kid in a prime spot to win the game. He set him up for success and that’s good to see.
Does the home team have a choice of shooting first or last during the shootout? Because I’d, you know, kinda rather shoot last.

The Roster Conundrum
by IwoCPO on 09/10/07 at 02:46 PMComments (21)
Updated 1807 EST: Pete over at Yzerman is God has just posted a very nice take on the Sopel scenario. Check it out here.
He has offensive potential? At least Kronwall and Lebda are young for all we hear that phrase. And he doesn’t look like a defensive stud either. You replace him with Lilja and what do you get? No better on defense, less physicality, oh yeah, and the almighty slapper. Let’s talk about that.
Some real sound analysis of the Wing PP strategy follows that quote. Good stuff Pete.
------
Two days until the Wings descend on sleepy TC and the intrigue is starting to build. Two names have great potential to throw the whole damn thing into a tailspin the likes we haven’t seen since the Edmund Fitzgerald braved the Superior one fateful night in, umm, some year in the 60’s I think.
Sopel and Grigorenko. Add them to the mix and the main hatchway’s giving in brother because we’re going to have a full load of forwards and a bursting blue line.
Picking Up The Pace

Jeremy Bonderman’s hurt. The Lions have begun their trek to glory. Tiger Woods won again and I’m sure a redneck drove pretty fast before taking his sister out for a romantic dinner. So finding Wing news today may be tough.
But not as tough as it was a month ago. Thankfully.
Sunday Odds and Ends

It’s been nearly two years since we came up with the blog title, “Abel to Yzerman.” For most of you, the significance of that has been pretty clear. “Abel” refers to Wing legend Sid Abel. “Yzerman” is our tribute to a little-known role player who somehow eeked his way onto the Detroit roster for 23 consecutive seasons.
Why do I bring that up?
