Blame Luongo?

Appearing under the headline “Here’s a new one - Blame Luongo?”, Jim Morrison from the CP via the Toronto Star:
Goaltender Roberto Luongo must play better if the Vancouver Canucks hope to end their recent slide, coach Alain Vigneault said Tuesday.
“When we were on a winning run we were getting a little bit more timely saves,” Vigneault said after the team’s practise. “Roberto, and when we use Curtis (Sanford, the Canuck backup), it’s been a little more challenging that way, for what ever reason.
“I know Roberto really wants to get on the same roll he was on prior to this. He would probably be the first one to tell you that since probably the Islanders game, the goaltender he has faced . . . has probably had a slight edge there.”

Sure it’s true, Lou hasn’t played up to form the last 6 games. He’s had flashes of greatness in all of his games but he’s also had flashes of being “human”. But he’s not the problem.
I blame the D. Last year our D were chipping in for all sorts of points. This year nothin’. Sure we’re missing Bieksa and for stretches Ohlund, Salo and Mitchell but come on - why is Weaver in the line-up? The guy is a puck bobbling pip-squeek who constantly turns the puck over. He seriously couldn’t clear a dust bunny out of the crease.
And when was the last time Cooke actually hit the net? Time for this guy to head back to shootin’ school or get a new contact lens prescription.
I also blame Alain V too. How can he just sit by and watch this team slowly skate to the bench every time they change? And don’t even get me started on their attempts at the “dump and chase”. There’s no sense of urgency right now. You can’t win games without a solid forecheck, backcheck and a sense of urgency.
Looks like we’re back to the beginning of last year all of the sudden. Let’s hope they can snap out of it and soon.

Ryan— You liar… ![]()
Trini— Wow, a great comment. Though I don’t blame the D myself so much. Although you sure have a point about Cooke—and the same could be said for Burrows till the other night, as well.
For all the chances those 2 guys create, they should be the leading scorers lately… if only they could hit the broad side of a barn…

On behalf of fans of NW division teams other than the Canucks, all I can say is…
Let’s go Blues!

i think the problem is that our young guys just can’t ‘finish.’ Burrows, Kesler, Edler and even Pyatt. It’s shocking that Kesler and Pyatt actually have 12 goals - they could be dueling with Danny Sedin for top goals14 on the team if they could just bury that puck. I can probably think of a good dozen quality chances (breakaways, open netters, etc) that one of these guys has botched in the last 5 games. It’s frustrating
