Breaking the Trap: A How To Guide

Given the nature of the two teams on the ice in GM Place tonight and their battle for 1st place in the division, it seemed timely to present this how-to guide titled “How to Run a Hockey Offense: Breaking the Trap”:
Introduction: The neutral zone trap is one of the most popular defenses. It is fairly easy to execute and remains very effective. This is an attempt to subjugate that defense.
Level of Difficulty: Easy
Things You’ll Need:
* Hockey Sticks
* Hockey Pucks
* Ice Skates
9 easy steps. But alas, it may not work, as the guide also finishes with this caution…
If the defense ignores this ruse, the offense will be no more effective than a fly punching through a brick wall.

An interesting idea. I know the AHL is frequently testing out a lot of possible rule changes, but looking at this [PDF] I don’t think that’s one of them.
Perhaps at another pro-level of the game? I’m honestly not sure.

I wonder what affect moving the ‘icing’ from center ice to the blue line (backwards) would do to the trap.
Aren’t they testing that somewhere? AHL???
