Canucks Name Ryan Walter as an Assistant

via KETV:

The Vancouver Canucks padded their coaching ranks Tuesday, naming Ryan Walter an assistant.

The 50-year-old Walter joins head coach Alain Vigneault and associate coach Rick Bowness behind the Vancouver bench for the upcoming season.

Walter has worked on and off in media over recent years, covering hockey for Sportsnet and TSN among others. He has also been working as a motivational speaker and has a Masters Degree in Business. (And don’t forget an acting stint as a referee in the movie Miracle).

So, may I present the ‘top-secret’ video resume that got Ryan Walter the Canucks job:

Awesome. Doesn’t the music alone make you want to give him the job? smile

More on Walter’s hiring at Canucks.com. But frankly, I think that video says it all.

That’s a pretty intense resume he’s got.

I love Wikipedia:

In 1991 he signed as a free agent with the Vancouver Canucks, where he played the final two seasons of his career and won the Bud Light NHL Man of the Year award.

BL Man of the Year? Combined with the rat killer in the back office, it certainly is a fresh, new morning in Vancouver.

I figure that Gillis must have seen that video.

Ryan Walter Is A Winner.
Ryan Walter Can Make You A Success.
Ryan Walter Saves The Planet Earth From Aliens.

Well, that last one might not have been in the video, but I think it was implied. smile

(As for the Canucks’ Bud Light Man of the Year, Mike… I don’t think I’d tell anyone if I received that ‘honor’!)

It might be interesting to see the video resume he submitted to earn it, though (something along the lines of the drunken, burger-snarfing David Hasselhoff YouTube video?).  smile

Cute. smile

All kidding aside, I do want to say that I like the choice of Walter for the job. He’s personable and was a decent hockey analyst. And I think he’ll provide a good buffer between Vigneault and his frequent clashes with the players, as well.

This is an interesting move bringing in a Tony Robbins-esque type leader. I like Walter - although during Canucks TV broadcasts I find him to be a little too optimisitc no matter how badly the Canucks are playing.

But you’re right Alanah - he’ll bring a nice balance to the coaching staff.

As long as Rick Bowness is a part of the coaching staff, I could care less if they hire Maggie the Monkey as AV’s assistant.

oh dear lord

that video is awful

isn’t it???

or is it just my natural English reserve that makes me hide behind the cushion and squirm with embarrassment at
- the voiceover guy
- the close ups of his masters degree
- the phrase “Ryan ignites your hungry spirit”
?

oh dear oh dear oh dear

I’m sure he’ll do a fine job, but

oh dear

- the phrase “Ryan ignites your hungry spirit”

Does that mean one of his duties will be firing up the grill at team cookouts?
