Canucks Notes

  • imageCombine TSN’s Darren Dreger and the Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch and what ultimately comes out of the wash is a trade rumor that flips Antoine Vermette and Matias Ohlund.
  • Hate the hockey media? Hire Alex Edler for your next attack.  With a flu-symptom-inspired quarantine, he needs to fly commercial plus get his own $500 a night hotel room upon arrival, but he’s worth it.  Surrounded by reporters in NYC yesterday, the quote from assistant coach Rick Bowness in the Vancouver Sun was “Breathe on them all Alex. Breathe on them all.”
  • The Canucks photographer Jeff Vinnick accompanied the Canucks on their road trip and snapped a bunch of photos of them in New York. There’s a full photo gallery here.
  • Joe Pelletier has been remembering 1994 lately.  And I liked his article, although reading such things when the Canucks are just hours away from a game at MSG strikes me as a bit masochistic. (*Joe even includes the YouTube footage of Bure’s missed penalty shot; you know, just in case you wanted to relive that fun time again...)

The Canucks seem to like bloggers; I wonder if Alex would have been instructed to breathe on them smile

The one shocking thing about the photos: Not a single civilian anywhere appearing to recognize any of the Canucks, especially not Luongo, walking downtown, or in the NHL store holding up his own jersey, followed by at least one photographer.

Do you find that shocking?  Not me.  I think of NY as the kind of city that pretty much anyone can be anonymous in....particularly Vancouver-based hockey stars. smile

They don’t even recognize Naslund for that matter.

It’s shocking and not shocking.

Redden reportedly takes the subway to work.

Even in Vancouver, there’s one Canuck that walks or rides his bike to GM Place every day, and apparently doesn’t run into people that point him out very often.

Part of that is just that people are generally polite, I think.  And the other part is that the context is confusing sometimes. It just doesn’t fit to see these guys in non-hockey situations. smile

Unless you’re a Yankee starter, you’re not going to get recognized in NYC.  And even then...probably not approached by anyone.  NYers in general are just not impressed by celebrity.

Watching the game...that puck was totally in the net, I think Toronto blew that call...and then the Canucks score another one anyway.

I’m not sure what was up with that call, K24.  I’ve grabbed the video though, and I’ll post it later along with the official explanation. But I’m pretty confused about it.

I dont think that puck crossed the goal line… it was about to then a Ranger swiped it sideways and out of the net..... if you drew a straight line at the back of the goal line, that puck did not fully cross the line, very close though.

Great effort by the Canucks, solid.
