Puck drop at 7pm.  The most important thing to remember? This is a 7 game series. While I’m fully prepared to rant and freak out about all losses, I’m also capable (for about another hour) of being rational—meaning, we’re going to lose games, and some of it may well not be pretty.  But we’re also capable of winning this series, as long as the team doesn’t panic as badly as the fans (i.e. Alanah) when bad things happen.

It’s like a 12 Step Program now—12 wins to go, while I consume enough cocktails along the way to enter my own 12 Step Program the day after we win the Stanley Cup. Sound reasonable?

Go Canucks!

Post-Game Notes

I’m actually already sick of everybody’s whining… and I haven’t even heard it yet. But dear God, I just know I’m going to in a matter of hours… it’s about due to explode all over the newspapers in time for Thursday’s sunrise.

Don’t get me wrong here - I’m not happy, and I can see the huge mountain in front of the Canucks as clear as anyone. But I don’t think it takes any brilliant hockey analysis to come up with a few obvious ‘excuses’ for tonight’s performance, either.

1. Just had a 7 game series win, which was made even more gruelling by the loss of guys like Kesler and Cooke. It was a hard fought win.
2. No rest at all. A huge emotional win, then a plane ride to California and the game the next day.
3. A team that so seriously depends on defence lost TWO of it’s top-4 defencemen on game day.
4. Anaheim is - not unexpectedly - really fu#king good.

None of these four things are guaranteed to change, except maybe getting a breather on #2.  I wasn’t expecting miracles for game #1, so I wasn’t that disappointed.

But I’ll have much bigger expectations of this team for Game #2. I want to see them play like I know they can, regardless of the adversity. I guess we’ll see.

Nice work...setting yourself up for the easy fall.

I love these Canucks...they battle and they play hard...and they have Luongo.  But, I am realistic.  The Ducks are DEEP...and will cause the Canucks all sorts of problems.  I posted my predictions...and they were realistic.  But, oh, I really hope I am wrong…

Not setting myself up; it’s called being hopeful. Kind of like buying a lottery ticket… your chances of winning that $1 million prize aren’t great, but you might as well believe in the possibility for as long as you can. smile

I still have faith in them! Miracles can still happen, things can suddenly turn around for these guys.
