According to TSN’s Ice Chips, the Vancouver Canucks have placed Michel Ouellet on re-entry waivers today.
In Manitoba, Ouellet has been steadily putting up the points so far this year, and his career numbers with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning the last few seasons are solid as well.
I’m not sure offhand what his salary is, but I can’t imagine he’s going to clear waivers. Any guesses on which NHL team picks him up?
Update November 4th: Welcome back, Michel...

Ha ha! I’m glad you left another comment, because you had me shell-shocked at the idea Thomas Vanek might have been put on waivers today and that I somehow missed this news…

well, id certainly hope the sabres wouldnt put the 50 million dollar man on waivers. Id pretty much cry lol
I meant to post my first comment on the players of the month post.
Despite being a huge sabres fan, i believe he deserved it most. He had an amazing first month. I dont get how he didnt get picked. whatever though, ill live.

I suppose any team picking him up on waivers the first time would have had this same problem, but it makes me wonder why the Canucks bothered—they had to know that it would be almost impossible to get him through re-entry waivers. And now they’ll be stuck with salary/cap hit they got no benefit from! Wonder if they could have waited until someone else claimed him and tried to promote him before picking him up?

Alanah - maybe he could have made it though if you didn’t post something on the interwebs about it. Now he’s definitely gone and I blame you face-on-train girl!

what a f***ing clown move. so the only thing we’re getting out of the krajicek trade is o’brien? somebody needs to slap gillis. if you’re going to decide to put oullet into manitoba you have to leave him there until next year. this is like getting a second mortgage on your house to pay off a gambling debt, i.e. completely retarded.

Yankee - It’s always my fault…
But what the hell… Oilers fans are happy.

According to this, the deadline for claiming Ouellet was 9am (I assume PST) this morning. Haven’t seen anything on TSN or elsewhere yet—could it be? (Yes, a moment of optimism…tempered by the knowledge that it will quickly turn to disappointment)

Jeremy… turns our your optimism was well-founded: Ouellet made it to the Canucks.
Shocking, but great news.

Bizarre! But yes, most welcome news. Not that he’s in the saviour category, but he sounds like a decent player. Give credit to Gillis for somehow sneaking him through.

does this mean that i have to grudgingly admit that gillis might know what he’s doing? god i hope not.

Bitterguy - Never admit anything.
