Jason Krog became the man of the game by scoring two more goals, totalling three goals and one assists for the night. Jason Krog became the AHL’s top scorer in both the regular season and the playoffs. In 110 games, he had 63 goals and 83 assists. He has signed with Russian team Severstal Cherepovets for next season. After not making the NHL roster, he will have a second stint in Europe after having played in Austria, Sweden and Switzerland from 2004 to 2006.

Oh well. If you all did pick him up, congratulations on that. He might like being back in the Western conference.

Alan - thanks for that link. I’m not sure what’s up. If he has indeed been signed by the Canucks, presumably something will be released soon, and hopefully that will explain the statement you found at the IIHF site as well.

It’s possible Krog just had an ‘out’ of some kind built into his Russian contract.

Alanah - I think you posted the story about Ilya Nikulin and the Thrashers recently. Nikulin’s agent has had to have the contract translated to English to prove Nikulin has a NHL out clause. I would suspect that before the league signs off on signing Krog, his agent would also have to have the Russian contract translated for the league. If this is a signing after the agreement yesterday was made, and no NHL out clause exists, I suspect there might be trouble between the NHL and the IIHF/KHL.

It would strike me as odd that the Canucks beat writer hasn’t spoken of Krog, either, and that screenshot was pulled off the NHL.com player page. Then again, Thrashers fans saw the Junior Lessard NHLPA page state that the Thrashers signed him days before the actual announcement was made.

I guess we’ll find out for sure soon. Either way, he has quite a bit of offensive prowess, so I’m not sure why Atlanta didn’t opt to try and sign him themselves.

If he had that much offensive prowess, he would be a regular NHLer by now (he’s 32). He struck me as being a career-AHLer during his (very) short stint in NY with the Rangers.  They got him to plug in a hole for a few games, and then he was gone again.
