Jim Hughson Signs 6 Years with CBC

From CBC:
CBC Sports announced Tuesday that it has re-signed Gemini Award-winning announcer Jim Hughson to a six-year contract.
The new deal goes into effect immediately and runs through to the end of the 2013-14 NHL season.
Hughson, from Fort St. John, B.C., will continue to work on two of CBC’s major sports properties, Hockey Night in Canada and Blue Jays baseball, during the course of the agreement.
Since Hughson has been fairly clear he will not be working both at Rogers Sportsnet and CBC in the future—it was to be one or the other—it seems Canucks fans are now awaiting word of a new play-by-play man for next season.
Any nominations? Hughson’s tenure will be a tough act to follow.

There has been speculation the last couple of seasons that Larscheid is ready to retire from the travel of broadcasting. I wouldn’t be shocked if both Larscheid and Shorthouse moved on at the same time. Surely Shorthouse would be the natural choice to take the role. I don’t know how much the Canucks influence the process, but I’m sure they would like to keep ‘the voice of the Canucks’ someone familiar.

HOW about Bob Cole????????????????
No, not really.
2 votes for shorty and larsheid.
Although I did read an interview where larsheid figured he was done after this season, but he did leave it open a bit.

Can anyone answer the question that the first commenter brought up, twbrown, about who that guy was that worked that Canucks game a few weeks ago? I remember thinking the same thing, that he really was quite good. I’d be interested in seeing/hearing more of his work.
I think Shorty is very talented, but I’m not 100% sold on his taking over Hughson’s job. I wouldn’t complain or anything, I just like the idea of hearing some more options first.

Alanah If you are speaking of the Columbus game I think his name was Kevin Quinn from Edmonton.
He was okay. Shorty is better though.

The really disapointing part of this, is CBC will put Jim on the always unpopular TO game and leave the coverage of the west.

Thanks, Laker. I believe you’re right. My memory is rubbish, but I do seem to recall Quinn, now that you mention it.
Travisro, I’m not sure you’re correct about the game assignments, actually. Since Bob Cole isn’t retiring as was expected at one point, it might work out that Cole continues the TO games and Hughson will be working the west. It would make some sense since Hughson is almost certain to continue living in Vancouver and Cole’s life is based out east.
Hopefully that’s the way it will work, anyway.

Please, if there is a God, take Roger Millions off of Sportsnet West broadcasts and re-assign him to SPAC (Sportsnet Pacific).

If Shorty goes to TV, the Canucks should take Brian Munz for the radio. He does the Moose games on CJOB here in Winnipeg.

@dash_pinched:
I can only assume you’re a Flames fan who wants to inflict suffering on Canucks fans. Roger Millions is a tool of the first order.
Also: please, please, PLEASE don’t let it be Dan Murphy. Not that there’s any chance of that, just sayin’.

Don Taylor has thrown his hat in the ring.
I like Don. Very knowledgeable, good wit.
Maybe him and Shorty together with Donny as the color guy?

I could get behind Don Taylor, as long as he gets rid of his “in ____-ian fashion!” tic.
That’s funny in the highlights, but I imagine it would become distracting over the course of a whole game.

I can’t remember the name for the life of me, but I thought that the broadcaster who covered for Jim Hughson a couple of Friday’s ago on sportsnet was quite good.
