Roberto Luongo Injured Sunday

From Iain MacIntyre at the Vancouver Sun,
Vancouver Canuck goalie Roberto Luongo left the National Hockey League team’s intrasquad game injured after being hit on the collarbone or throat by Brad Isbister’s high shot.
Luongo, a finalist for both the Hart and Vezina trophies last season, lay facedown the ice for several minutes at the Memorial Centre in Victoria after getting beaned by Isbister late in the first period Sunday morning.
Holy hell. I was just joking about this the other day. Maybe this is payback…
On the other hand, why is it that Luongo’s own teammates KEEP TRYING TO KILL HIM?!?
(Dear Brad Isbister: This is no way to make friends in Vancouver.)
The final comment from MacIntyre’s story suggests Luongo will be fine…
Luongo isn’t believed to be seriously hurt, but the team will monitor him for any swelling that could restrict his airway.
... but that doesn’t make me feel much more cheerful.
Hopefully we’ll have updates later today or early Monday.

BUBBLE WRAP!!! BUBBLE WRAP!!! ONLY TAKE HIM OUT FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS!!!
Geez, guys, what did he do to you over the offseason? Who is paying you enough to try to kill your own teammate? Do some of you want a one-way ticket to northern Siberia with nothing but underwear and A-1 for the bears and wolves and tigers?

What a day. Geezus, I hate this sport sometimes.
I didn’t see your comment earlier, puckhound, but thank you. I didn’t realize about the Salo injury till just a few minutes ago, in fact (there’s a post up with that info now, too). And I know nothing at all about Linden’s. Ugh.
Bubblewrap is a great plan, Baroque. Plus, wrap enough around Yo!Luongo and he’ll block the entire net with padding. No pesky sudden movements necessary, which could cause groin injuries, etc.
Works for me…

There is a readily available product to protect Luongo from just this such an issue and the Canucks have one in house. Why not have him use it, at least during practices and intra-squad games?

Sami Salo jammed his wrist and Trevor Linden pulled his groin also in this game.
Hope everyone is OK.
