“Canucks Destroy Red Wings”

That’ll be the headline tomorrow… or so the voices in my head tell me.

But—taking a break from my dementia—there are a couple serious obstacles to such a happy ending:  (1) the Canucks can’t score their way out of a paper bag; and (2) Henrik Zetterberg can’t stop scoring.

From TSN:

Henrik Zetterberg will attempt to extend his season-opening point streak tonight when his Detroit Red Wings host the Vancouver Canucks at Joe Louis Arena.  Zetterberg has at least a point in each of Detroit’s first nine games, posting seven goals and 10 assists in that span.

Poll Question:  Can Luongo stop Zetterberg?

Will Luongo End Zetterberg's Streak?

No on both.

The Canucks did say Sanford will start an away game, so maybe he will start tonight or Friday versus Washington.

I would definately put my money on Z scoring in regular play before I would put it on him scoring in the shootout. The Wings aren’t a great shootout team.

Paul— Luongo better be playing.  (And by the way, any relation...??!)

Mike -- Optimism is the key to being a Canucks fan, believe me. No other way to survive it. smile

*too many damn Wings-lovers voting in this poll. stop it!

Just an update for Canucks fans: Linden and Weaver are scratches, but Sami Salo is back for this game—his first game of the season.

Now Zetterberg is worried… wink

We have a GDT up in the KK Forum if anyone is interested and I also believe A2Y will be semi-live blogging during the game.

Matt Cooke is also out of the lineup tonight for Vancouver.

Alanah:  They call your condition, in Canada, dementia??  Here in the States, we would probably label your condition as lunacy, or insanity (says the rabid Wing Fan)!!!
You really think the ‘Nucks are going to destroy the Wings??  Wings 3.44 G/G, ‘Nucks 2.78 G/G, Wings 2.56 GA/G, ‘Nucks 3.22 GA/G, Wings 22.2% PP (6th best), ‘Nucks 20.8% PP, Wings 86.3% PK, ‘Nucks 81.1% PK (18th in NHL).

Maybe you are demented (j/k!!!!) As I always say, ignorance is bliss (i.e. not smart enough to know what you are perceiving)—or just drinking too many canadian soda pops!!!

I grew up watching and loving the Nucks because they were on the second game of HNIC. I loved Bure--the man was pure electricity.

I say they should bring back the bright yellow uniforms with the triangles. That’s the only way they stand a chance against my Wings.

p.s. I hope Dats scores on one of his insane moves just so we can all have a moment of silence for Bure.

Don’tbe so quick to beat yourself down.  Consider this:
“The Canucks won three of four versus the Red Wings last year and has also won seven of their last 11 meetings with Detroit. Vancouver has also won its last two trips to Joe Louis Arena.”
and
from Hockeytowntodd on 10-21
“My concern now is the upcoming Wed game when VAN hits MoTown
The first game off a road trip is usually trouble----
No more room service Lads. now it is 3 days of cleaning gutters, taking your own trash out, Gassing and washing your own SUV’s. And then there is the wife, and picking up the dog poop.
Great to be back, eh!.”

It would be funny if Zetterberg’s streak ends, only for him to start another with a multi-goal game against the Sharks.

After all, his streak has to end sometime; it may as well be against an excellent goaltender instead of some obscure backup.

Wow...Canucks destroying anyone this year will not be a headline (unless all those years of virgin sacrificing and vodoo rituals pays off and it’s at the Rangers expense).

We’ll be fortunate if the Red Wings score less then five, the Canucks get a shot on goal during the second and they don’t take five straight hooking calls in the first. Then, at least, it would be a “hey we’re improving” sort of loss!

Don’t confuse Vancouver with Toronto!  smile

(Although I think the Leaves are still at the “maybe we haven’t hit rock bottom yet” stage of losing.)

Yes.  They got an OHL expansion team this year.  Isn’t that exciting?

The Canucks wont win with the leadreship of Marcus,He has no drive nor passion.
As the game goes on the more he XXXXXXXXXX up
And if The coaching was anything he should have been beanched a long time ago.
They have other players sitting who have drive and passion
USE THEM not the FLAKES

Good grief… I was going to answer all of these nice comments individually, but then I realized something oh-so-irritating: at least 10 people answered “no” to the poll AFTER Zetterberg scored.  Ugh!

You damn people—while you entertain the hell out of me, you also SUCK!! smile

P.S. To the ‘Kaare’ dude who trashed Naslund in the comments above:  please note that your remarks have been profoundly motivational. I really need to write an editorial about how absolutely relevant Naslund is and how much I actually like him as a player.

Thanks for the inspiration, sweetie.

Sorry Dude Naslund as a player for this team or any other is so over payed for what he brings to the ice.
As a leader he is not. As a player who shift after shift floats he is.
As a player who has no confidence in his shot or his game he is.
Face it Naslund has not brought anything to this team in years. It has got to the point that it is pulling the whole team down,They are all tight ,none can make a pass to save their lives,None will take a shot and they dont skate.
I have been a fan for 30 years and Im sorry watching these games this year has been painful to say the least.
There are a few who do show a spark of life,
But when your Captian doesnt show up and hasnt for atleast a year and the coaches dont sit him down then tell me why on earth should any of the other players realy give a xxxx .
I realy dont care that their a captian, or they are the star, or anything .
You dont produce and your allways giving up the puck its time to sit a few and get back to basics.
And as a captian he should now that whould be best for the team.

Some of you non-Wing fans need to tell me what it feels like when the Wings beat your team. It must be like getting run over by a motor scooter, or getting clubbed with a walker. Like getting dentures embedded in your arm.
