The Defense Rests
by Alanah McGinley on 02/05/08 at 02:14 PMComments (6)
The Canucks have recalled Zack Fitzgerald, yet another defenseman from Manitoba who gets his first shot at discovering life in the NHL this season. As Brad Ziemer via Canwest News pointed out this morning, things are beyond desperate:
Can anyone out there skate backwards?
Good, because you may be able to help the Vancouver Canucks, who are giving new meaning to the phrase, “the defence rests.”
A couple of these d-men might be back, but here’s the current status of the Canucks top-6, as they were projected to be last October (to paraphrase Ziemer):

Report: Dan McGillis Signs with the Canucks
by Alanah McGinley on 09/20/07 at 12:55 PMComments (4)
From TSN,
Veteran defenceman Dan McGillis has joined the Vancouver Canucks on a professional tryout.
McGillis, 35, has played 634 career games and recorded 238 points (56-182-238) with five NHL clubs. He spent 68 games last season playing for the Lowell Loch Monsters of the AHL.
From Yahoo! ticker,
The Vancouver Canucks on Thursday signed veteran defenseman Dan McGillis.
Terms were not disclosed. McGillis, 35, did not play in the NHL last season. The Hawkesbury, Ontario native appeared in 27 games for the New Jersey Devils during the 2005-06 campaign, recording six assists.
Just a tryout, or was he signed? Both reports came out within minutes of each other. More later.
