1 for 113

Hey.  Here’s a Sunday stat that will warm your Christmas holiday heart.

Did you wake up wondering how pathetic the Detroit News coverage of the Wings is?  Really?  Good, then this will shed some light.

Of the last 113 columns written by News writers not assigned a specific beat (Wings, Pistons, Tigers, UM, MSU, preps, etc)...exactly 1 has been about the Wings.  Rob Parker’s column on November 28th was about Darren McCarty and his wishes to return to the NHL.

Other than that? Squat.

The Freep?  Well at least they had something ready for the holidays.  A tear-jerker from Oprah’s biotch Mitch Albom?  No.  Maybe a glance at the Wings’ success from Rosenberg? Nah.

But Helene St. James hit it hard.  Go here, then check out the list of stories on the right.

Couldn’t agree more Chief.  Not only do the Freep and News provide non-existent coverage of the Wings, their beat-writers are so pathetic, that their coverage could be considered “non-existent”.

Note that I did not include Bruce MacLeod in that group.  I have coined a monkier for Bruce “Almighty”.  He gets the scoop after the morning skate, and provides projected line combos as well as injury updates, and occasionally gets a quote or two.  And if you check his blog, you generally find a well articulated column backed-up with stats.

George Malik also does a good job a MLive.com.  He scours the out-of-town papers as well as other media to find good articles on the Wings.

Other than George or Bruce, you’d be hard pressed (pardon the pun) to find any real news on the Wings.  It is pathetic, really sad.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Wait, you mean that the Freep and the News have DIFFERENT beat writers? You’d never know from reading the nearly IDENTICAL articles. It’s pretty sad when Chief and Paul, presumably men with full times jobs NOT covering the Wings, do a better job than the MSM dorks. As for the columnists, what do you expect? If the editors don’t care enough to make the beat writers do a decent job, why would they make the columnists do anything?

Darren McCarty and his wishes to return to the NHL.

Um, wait.  Return?  I didn’t realize he left.  Shows how much I follow other teams.

So how much is nostalgia worth?

Maybe Darren would like to come win another Cup.  Can anyone say third-line grit?  Someone to stand up for Hank and Pavel?  And before anyone laughs, let me remind you of something…
