73 Men Sailed Up For This Live Blog and It Was 19 Who Led Them

One of my favorite tunes of all time and a tribute to the best frigging Captain in the history of professional sports. What became inevitable on June 7th, 1997 won’t actually occur for 48 more hours. But you just know tonite’s all about 19.
So let’s Live Blog this bitch, eh?
I’m betting HNIC will show most, if not all, of this…
Former Detroit Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman, ex-Wings Brett Hull and Luc Robitaille, Brian Leetch and Lou Lamoriello will be honored tonight during a pregame ceremony at Air Canada Centre.
The five will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday night.
The festivities will push back the start of the Wings-Leafs game by 20 minutes, for a 7:28 puck drop.

Steve Yzerman is the best Captain in the history of the sport. Period.
There is no I in Yzerman. Bitches.

Here’s to Stevie—the greatest Captain in hockey history, my all-time favorite athlete, and the reason I am a life-long Wingaholic.

Off topic, but hail to the Midshipmen for their win today in South Bend.
Posted by Down River Dan on 11/07/09 at 06:31 PM ET
Not a bad effort, Dan, for a bunch of officer wannabe’s.

Hey, Bella -
Do you want to take something off my hands? I need to keep my hands busy when I’m stressed, so I made a red and white baby afghan during the road trip.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 11/07/09 at 06:35 PM ET
OMG Lecavalier in MONTREAL!!!!!
Oh, whoops - he’s just visiting.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 11/07/09 at 06:39 PM ET
Bah, pregame stuff is to long. And it means I’m forced to listen to frickin Milbury more. Drop the puck.
Hey Ms B, good to have you around again. Damn the Yankees.
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 11/07/09 at 06:42 PM ET
Evening Bitches. It is a great night to be a Red Wing fan, lets celebrate the Stevie.

Miss B, you’re a sweetheart! Drop me a note at bellisima6015 at gmail and we’ll make arrangements. Thank you!
Posted by Bella on 11/07/09 at 06:49 PM ET
Stupid freaking Yankees. Dumb Phillies squandering opportunities like Tigers all series long - fielding like crap, relief pitching that almost made Cliff Lee puke in his second game, and Ryan Howard looking almost as ineffective as I would be.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr .....

You’re one of a kind Baroque. The good hearted kind.
An afghan with a Wings-19 history. Very cool.

Will do, Bella -
It doesn’t have a logo or anything, just rows of white openwork alternating with cherry red shells, and 100% acrylic so it’s washable and won’t pill. I use the same brand for all the afghans, and if my sister’s dogs haven’t destroyed them yet, they should hold up to a baby just fine.

What’s the due date again Bella?
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 11/07/09 at 06:55 PM ET
Crappy internet won’t let me watch the game (or listen, or live blog it… fuch).
I’m here just to tell you that Red Wings Brasil is having am Yzerman+Albom week, it’s a column-a-day thing starting in 1988 and ending with the Captain’s retirement in 06, with each column about one moment in his career.
It’s a lot of work translating Albom’s articles (damn, he writes long…), but it’s worth the time.
(there’s links for the original texts in the end of the posts).

The four inductees are on Hockey Night in Canada right now.

Sounds beautiful ... will match wonderfully with the Winged Wheel onesie I’m going to get. I have zero crafty ability, so I’m always amazed with what others can knit or crochet. He’ll wear it with pride.

Early March, Chief ... after the Olympics, but before the playoffs. My kid knew to have good timing.

Thanks Jenny and Okie. Okie, I admit I haven’t caught up on today’s posts ... how’d your boy’s football team do last night?
Posted by Bella on 11/07/09 at 07:06 PM ET
As much as it hurts me to say this, thanks to Gary, Ass, for the NHL channel broadcasting HNIC.

Game out in San Jose at 10:30 tonite might just be one to keep me awake.

Heh. Pavel reunites with the old goat. Love it.
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 11/07/09 at 07:07 PM ET
See, I’m shocked that people are impressed by really simple projects - but I’ve been crocheting for about three decades now, since I taught myself when I was home sick from school in third grade and driving my mom nuts. ![]()
I’m always amazed by how soft-spoken Brian Leetch is. Such a quiet and shy man.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 11/07/09 at 07:08 PM ET
They played an awesome game and came up just short, losing 14-7. Had First and ten on the enemy 15, with 3:00 to go, and couldn’t quite get it done - - but not for lack of trying.
They will still host an opening round playoff game this Friday.

Wow, I’m glad the Diggers reported on this important team meeting. Losers.
Too bad about Eaves ... loving that line. But May playing on HNIC and in front of his family might be good. Plus there’s Burke’s goons to take care of.

Well, it isn’t as though anything important happened, like the captain telling the team they are too good to be playing so crappy.

Damn, CBC always does the pregame so right. I never want to see another VS broadcast.
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 11/07/09 at 07:12 PM ET
Every time I see something cool like this I’m absolutely convinced Little Gary had nothing to do with it.
Posted by IwoCPO from Sunny San Diego, bitches on 11/07/09 at 07:12 PM ET
I’m getting all nerved up. The guys need to remember the last two times they played the Leafs. It doesn’t matter how much the Leafs suck, the Wings can’t take them lightly.
Ron Wilson lives to beat the Wings. I’m sure he doesn’t care if he wins another game this season, as long as he wins tonight. Bitches.

This is flippin awesome. The Leafs can do alot of things right, just not put a decent team on the ice for 10 years.
