73 Men Sailed Up For This Live Blog and It Was 19 Who Led Them

One of my favorite tunes of all time and a tribute to the best frigging Captain in the history of professional sports. What became inevitable on June 7th, 1997 won’t actually occur for 48 more hours. But you just know tonite’s all about 19.
So let’s Live Blog this bitch, eh?
I’m betting HNIC will show most, if not all, of this…
Former Detroit Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman, ex-Wings Brett Hull and Luc Robitaille, Brian Leetch and Lou Lamoriello will be honored tonight during a pregame ceremony at Air Canada Centre.
The five will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday night.
The festivities will push back the start of the Wings-Leafs game by 20 minutes, for a 7:28 puck drop.

The fast pace is in Detroit’s favor - Toronto played last night & should tire sooner.
The 3rd will belong to the Wings.

There goes Williams…now we just need Bertuzzi and Lebda to go down
Posted by Tyler from Arizona on 11/07/09 at 08:37 PM ET
Jeebus. Williams has the aids now.
First that cat got the swine flu and now Willy has aids. I’m not sure if I can take anymore.

Now that made me laugh.
And another injury? I leave to get the laundry out of the dryer and someone else gets hurt? Bleargh.

Circus together.
Posted by stonehands-78 from the beginning ... a WingsFan, on 11/07/09 at 08:41 PM ET
So if Williams is done for any length of time we call up… umm…. Mick?
Posted by monkey from here to Timbuktu on 11/07/09 at 08:41 PM ET
That thing in the 44 jersey will NEVER go down. It’s like the portrait of Dorian Gray - all the injuries that would have occured to him get deflected to someone else instead of to a picture of him, though.
That’s why I call it “the thing that should have blown out his knee instead of Franzen.”
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 11/07/09 at 08:41 PM ET
My wife invited me out to dinner. I’d usually defer for hockey. But not tonight.
Good luck “19”.

Mickey: “Still no word on Jason Williams…”
*#$%@&. That’s what the word is.

Ha! Though that was ust a pretty good backcheck by “the thing.” But yeah, I’m still irritated that he’s around. (I’d be less irritated if he’d actually finish on some of his rreaking scoring chances.)
Posted by Bella on 11/07/09 at 08:44 PM ET
And broken his wrist instead of Filppula.
And heck, he should have run off to Russia instead of spunky Hudler, too.

Have a great dinner, Jeff. ![]()
And heck, useless should have blown out his other knee, too, instead of Williams.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 11/07/09 at 08:46 PM ET
Why do all these suck-ass teams play like Stanley Cup Champions whenever they play the Wings?
Posted by CaptainDennisPolonich from Warm and sunny SoCal on 11/07/09 at 08:47 PM ET
Damn, Maltby just got mean and knocked someone flat on his ass. Haven’t seen that in a long long time.

I flipped over to CBC (second intermission) and have decided that I need to get a passport for no other reason than to track down Mike Milbury and kick his ignorant neanderthal ass from wherever he is at the time to the Arctic tundra to be eaten by polar bears.
What. A. Moron. :(

JWill taken to hospital for xrays will not return tonight. Since he’s in Canada, will he have to wait 6 months for the xrays?

Same reason all baseball teams get up to play the Yankees - except the Yankees can afford a payroll that is $50 million more than anyone else, so they can buy enough talent to compensate for the additional excitement of their opponents.

Actually, in Canada, the X-Rays come back super fast, but if you blow out your knee they put you down.

The HNIC feed? Yeah, FSD is blacked out on Center Ice for this one, so I’ve been stuck listening to their crap all night. As much as they insist they provide incisive, engaging commentary, I must disagree.
Fuch this. What a mess of a hockey game.

Poor Williams. :(
Nah, he’ll just cut in line like the Flames did with the H1N1 vaccine.

I’m on board. 20 minutes to get it done.
Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

Ok Leafs scored 2 in the 1st and 1 in the 2nd so linear regression would lead us to the conclusion that they score 0 in the 3rd. That or 10. I dont really know what Im talking about.

Nothing with Mike Milbury involved can possibly be incisive. He couldn’t incise his way out of a wet paper bag with a katana.
Somewhere a villiage is missing its idiot, and Milbury’s face is plastered all over the “LOST” posters on the poles and trees.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 11/07/09 at 09:06 PM ET
pgoody really gunning for the gamewrecker mantle.

He just made a lot of sense on proposed rule changes regarding hitting and fighting. But in general Ms. B, I agree wholeheartedly with your take on Milbury

Down 3-0 . we got ‘em right where we want ‘em. The next three goals are huge. Any more optimistic cliches out there? Cleary is way overdue.

Holy cow. Now 6-4 Washington over Florida. Knuble with his second of the game.
