Admitting You Have A Problem Is The First…

Thursday broke me down. Crushed me. It hurt worse than a triple overtime size twelve. Considering the disgust I felt yesterday morning? I’m surprised I’m even posting now.
As those of you who participate in the Live Blogs know, Game 4 was the second time in a row that other commitments forced me to have to catch up using the DVR. Convenient in some respects, but strange. You lose the rhythm of the game that way. We’ve grown used to taking a deep breath between whistles, beer bonging at commercials and searching out neighborhood domestic animals at intermissions.
When you have the thing recorded, you’re flying through all of that. You’re so anxious you even fast forward through icings, faceoffs, scrums, anything to just move a little quicker because you know you’re behind, you know something’s happened you just have to..get…to…it.
And after the Staal goal, I was like R.P. McMurphy after shock therapy. I saw what was happening. Rafalski was beaten so badly by such a marginal player. I knew what was going on. No legs. None. A Pittsburgh win from that point forward was inevitable. I didn’t watch a single minute in Jack Bauer real time from then on.
I needed a good 30 hours to deal with that, for whatever reason. You guys know me and I’m never proud of how I react to these things, but it is what it is. I think a lot of it had to do with the buildup, the Datsyuk saga. I don’t know.
I needed a break and gave myself one. Didn’t read anything, other than a few glances at George’s place to make sure no injuries popped up. I saw your comments coming, read about fifty percent and felt the energy returning. Heard a song on the radio yesterday around 11am and got an idea for a live blog that is going to re-define the way we live.
And I started to think about the fact that you guys are all class. Emails came in from time to time, gently reminding me that I’ve got a blog to run, in case I’d forgotten. Emails from odd places, like Pittsburgh, asking if I planned to write again, or if I was just going to pout my way through the rest of the series.
It’s not pouting. Well, it is. Watching the Wings lose a game like that, to see them dominated in the manner they were, by a team that has a superstar in Malkin but no advantages anywhere else…is hard to deal with. Some choose to confront it, discuss it, explore the why’s.
I don’t. I have to get away and I did.
Well, I’m back. And I’m telling you this…I don’t know what’s going to happen tonite. I don’t know the effect Pavel Datsyuk is going to have. In another post today, we’ll consider that. But here’s what I do know….the Live Blog’s going early. It’s going to be constructed differently. And it’s going to be something you’ll want to bookmark and read later, after the pressure of the playoffs are over. The LB’s going to be the 19 in their own words.
Hiatus is over. Time to get to work.
2 to 12 bitches. After all this, after the greatest emotional swing in Red Wing Fan history, even worse than 34.7, we’re still looking at 2 to 12 and a best of three with a couple in Hockeytown. I’ll give this to you now because you won’t be seeing it tonite.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
