Updated 2225 EST with your hard to believe stat of the night.  Bertuzzi’s goal was his third this playoff...his career high.  He also equaled, with that goal, his career high in points(6).

Nice picture.  Very apropos.  smile

Hope your team-building dinner went well.  (The last time I went on a “team-building retreat” the outing ending with leaping between canoes to spill each other in the river.  Difficult to work the next couple days when angry co-workers weren’t speaking to each other.)

wow, I missed the 1st, and tune in to watch the wings get back in the game.

What a horrible call though, that really sucks for the ducks…

If I’m a Ducks fan I am pissed.

But I’m a Wings fan so I will take the game-tying power play goal.

That’s weird, Hoser--This is one of those games when the Wings only score when I’m not watching.  Apparently, you have to keep watching.

(So now I’m watching the Pistons try to finish off the Bulls.)

Well Baroque, I’m doing my part - but my part is a whole lot more fun, eh?

You got that right, Hoser.

Yay!  Pistons win and are going to the Conference Finals again!  Maybe a good omen.

So.......How is the hockey game going?  Is my not watching helping them?  :D

Still 2nd intermission, not sure if you’re helping them in the room or not wink Not sure when you bailed, but it’s a 3 - 3 tie and the Wings have most of a powerplay to start the 3rd…

HA...Baroque, I’m right there with you....my wife pulled some “spend time with your daughter while she still loves you” nonsense, and I had to turn the game off when it was 3-1.

Now that I hear it’s at least tied up, I’m reluctant to turn it back on…

Baroque, I’m in the same boat as you.  Wings were down 3-1 when I left my friends house, got home and they have tied it up.  I have turned off the tv since they seem to play better if I am not watching it live.  I am TiVoing it though.

I did not bail!

Anaheim went up 1-0, I went to get a soda and make a phone call, Detroit scored to tie (while I wasn’t looking), then Anaheim scored twice and I switched to the Pistons at the first intermission.

Not bailing--just, as you are, doing my part.  wink

(This is so silly--normally I’m not at all superstitious, I just have a lot of coping mechanisms.)

Coping, coping.  It is killing me not to watch the game right now but I don’t want to mess it up.

Hockey players are so talented--not only can they play hockey, but they also know exactly who is watching them and respond accordingly!

Oh, and a quick note about hockey in Southern California...I had a meeting with a client here in San Diego today. (For those not familiar with West Coast geography, we share a border with Orange County, and are only an hour outside the Pond.)

So I told him I was hoping to get home in time to watch the Ducks/Wings game.  The guy looks me right in the eye and says he didn’t know it was soccer season.

hockeychic--Chocolate helps.  Excellent comfort food.

Although I’m keeping my hands busy making a pink and purple purse to cheer up a coworker’s very sick little daughter.

I’m not remotely superstitious either, but for some completely unrelated reason I went out of my way to make certain the shirt I wore for game 3 was clean for tonight…

I know what you mean, Hoser.  My Red Wing earrings that I wore during Game 3 are back in tonight.

Baroque - chocolate, now we are talking.  Well my kitchen is very clean as a result of this.  Sigh.

What a wierd series… at least we have home ice back.  Now let’s do something with it.

Got the split at least. Unfortunately they’ll have two days to recover because it sounded like we wore their defense out pretty badly.

Best of three series now.

How odd--what the heck happened to “both teams are strong in goal and defensively, so don’t expect a lot of goals?” Maybe both goalies have decided to alternate bad games and good games to keep things interesting.

I wonder if there is any sport less predictable than hockey.

Baroque - I think the answer to that is no.  Sigh.  A 3-1 series lead would have been nice.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

How Others View The A2Y 19

"Hell, I guarantee the content co-opters at Abel to Yzerman were about to link this article under the heading “Bitter Blues Fans” again right up until they just read that last half-sentance. Thanks but no thanks, you Kukla hangers-on."
--St. Louis Game Time

"I realize it’s the slow summer season, but can this guy tone down the tough-guy histrionics? His posts are fatiguing on an otherwise excellent site."
--A2Y Fan, Eternal_Fields

"I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season."
--Mile High Hockey

"I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…"
--In The Cheap Seats

"It's just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don't deserve their team."
--Thhom

"I really don’t care what fans or bloggers think."
--Drew Sharp

"Why is it you Detroit fans are still so classless when you have such a classy hockey team, with such a professional GM and gentlemen players? I understand that the author of this blog is a manner-less cad, but the rest of you should be better."
--A2Y Fan, Jeff Beaumont

"Have you ever *read* A2Y? Its the most opinionated, juvenile stuff i've read."
--Paul Nicholson

"I actually like the Detroit team and have a sh&% load of respect for them, but their fans are the biggest douches next to Canadians."

-A2Y legend, Hockeytown Todd

"And for the record, I don't hate the Red Wings, I hate their fans."

"I can just imagine the kindergarten teacher’s reaction when the tyke blurts out 'Mommy says Gary Bettman is a f*cking f*ckface! He wants to give ‘Rosby the bad touch.' ”
