Update 1836: This one hurts. Franzen, concussion like symptoms, out for tonite.
Starting the Live Blog a little early tonite. Apparently, the Hasek Club Car is filling up and you know those idiots need something to do. I’ll be here for the start of the game. Commence your conversations. Juveniliciousness is the only mandate.
Oh, and all those lower bowl seats the Delicate Genius was talking about? The empty ones he noticed after Kronwall’s hit? Here they are, thanks to Dave Guralnick of the Detroit News.
Gaping holes Mitch. Gaping.

I still don’t get that “now they’re rested” argument as I’ve said before.
Can someone explain that to me? They’ve played another hard game in between; how does that equal more rest?
Also, WTF is up with Cherry calling our town a redneck town?
p.s. I think he is deep in the closet

p.s. I think he is deep in the closet
Oh yes he did. Osrt went there.
An astute observation if you ask me. Alright boys. Back for the faceoff. Drink ‘em if you got ‘em.

Time for Cleary to earn his 2.8m.
Posted by Ryan from Toronto on 05/10/08 at 05:34 PM ET
hey guys,
did you know that teams need to play a physical game against the Wings? get in on the D and punish them?
amazing...I nevereverever woulda thunk
Posted by Osrt on 05/10/08 at 05:35 PM ET
OMG...NOOOOO Franzen is not playing? Nate, tell me you’re lying
Posted by Osrt on 05/10/08 at 05:36 PM ET
Shark, CBC has a feed, but you’ve gotta be in Canada, or fool it into thinking you are.
Posted by Nate A from Dark side of the moon on 05/10/08 at 05:37 PM ET
If Mule is out, I guess then that both Mac and Malts play with Draper—reuniting the grind line.
Cleary will move up to the 2 line, I guess Fil will center that line??

CBC says Franzen out with “concussion like symptoms.”
Bullshit. Franzen did an interview with Versus after Game One. He seemed no dumber than he normally does.
Posted by O-Joe on 05/10/08 at 05:41 PM ET
Hey Chief, just so as to not upset the hockey gods anymore than they, apparently with Mule, already are—why don’t you po1st Ted’s number—you know for luck and good mojo

Umm...excuse me, but is the Mule Really really out? I mean, really for real?

JEesuz eFFin Chirsmus…
Franzen’s “concussion-like symptoms” have stripped me of my ability to spell or properly operate Caps Lock.
ALL ABOARD!!!

DAMN Mule out tonight and out for Game 3—damn damn damn
Someone elses turn to carry the water, or as Babs would say, some else gets an opportunity.
Damn it to hell

The Red Wings announced before the game that Johan Franzen is out for at least the next two games because of concussion-like symptoms. The club said Franzen has been experiencing recurring headaches since early in the Western Conference semifinals against Colorado.

Franzen, concussion like symptoms, out for tonite.
Gaaaa!!! Say it ain’t so! Help me Tom Cruise! Help me Oprah!
going fetal now, won’t return to normal until he’s back or the playoffs are over.
or....maybe they should let him play...the anti-digger says it’s been going on since early in the Vag series, maybe that’s his secret weapon, drain bramage.

Helm scores a hatrick tonight…
...or, you know...our top line does what it is supposed to
Posted by Osrt on 05/10/08 at 05:47 PM ET
Wow, maybe the cable being out is a blessing in disguise…
.... Funny though, it’s not like he seems any worse the wear for a guy with a concussion…
Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 05/10/08 at 05:50 PM ET
A bigger problem than making up for his scoring may be who fills his spot on the PK.
Posted by Nate A from Dark side of the moon on 05/10/08 at 05:51 PM ET
From MacLeod. Load up the Hasek.
The team press release said that Franzen has experienced recurring headaches since early in the Colorado series. He won’t play until further testing is complete.
Franzen will also miss Game 3 in Dallas to remain in Detroit for that testing.
I thought it was odd this morning when Dan Cleary skated with the second line instead of just subbing in Mark Hartigan or another player for the half-hour practice. The team obviously knew then that Franzen wouldn’t go tonight.

It’s always amazing to me how, despite the high ticket prices, the big contracts, the $27 pizza and $54 beers at the Joe, the Wings can’t afford to get orthopedists and other specialists who work on the weekend!!!
I mean, it’s only the SCF, guys… No big deal. Jeebuz, Oh Little Baby Jeebuz Dressed Up Like a Homeless Guy…
Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 05/10/08 at 05:57 PM ET
Another good call. My cat’s no where to be seen. But not for long. I know where that bastard hides.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 05/10/08 at 05:57 PM ET
Ok, so he was experiencing symptoms through a week and a half? And kept scoring. Get him a cotozone shot to the head and man up…
Posted by Osrt on 05/10/08 at 06:00 PM ET
Nate:
A bigger problem than making up for his scoring may be who fills his spot on the PK.
I think the Wings can fill that, what they cannot easily “fix” is who is gonna get in Turco’s kitchen on the #2 PP!
Damn it to hell—just when it was really starting to get smoking hot!!

And, in other news, the Wings just signed the second-leading scorer from the Finnish Elite League:
The Red Wings signed Finnish star forward Ville Leino to a one-year entry level contract on Saturday.
In keeping with team policy, additional terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Leino, 24, played for Jokerit Helsinki of the Finnish Elite League in 2007-08. He led Jokerit with 77 points (28 goals, 49 assists) in 55 games. He recently received the Oskanen Award, given annually to the league’s best player in the regular-season.
He finished second in league scoring and plus-minus rating (+34), and third in goals. Leino also was awarded the Finnish Elite League’s Star Player Award.
In six FEL seasons, Leino has scored 69 goals with 136 assists for 205 points in 294 career games. Before the 2007-08 season, he played two seasons with HPK Hameenlinna and three years with Ilves Tampere.

Take that, Fabian.

Damn right. Anyone heard if it’s actually Hartigan in for Franzen? I’d like to think it will be McCarty, or even Abbydabbymotherfu**ingdoo.

The team press release said that Franzen has experienced recurring headaches since early in the Colorado series.
Bullshit. The team doc would not have let him continue to play had he been complaining of headaches. The testing would’ve been done immediately.
This is a cover story.
Oh, and the first person to whine or blame any upcoming loss (if there is one) on the Franzen injury gets shipped out on the first train to Denver.
Posted by O-Joe on 05/10/08 at 06:00 PM ET
Yeah, Chief.

Amazinlgy Edzo is spot on—they gotta skate.
Yeah—good luck keeping up with the Wings.

Just plug those into your browser like you would a URL, they’ll open windows media player and play them there.
Those are for windows media player but can also be used with programs like VLC or quicktime with the right plug-ins.
The place where I got these has been reliable in the past but…
We’ll be okay without Franzen. Have faith, we’re more than a one man machine. The circus will step up and Ozzie will play well.
That said… this has put me back on the stress train…

Anyone heard if it’s actually Hartigan in for Franzen?
I’m hoping it is Mac/Drapes/Malts. It would really jazz up the “rednecks”
Cleary to the #2 line
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 05/10/08 at 06:07 PM ET
Sammy’s line starting. Sam, Phil, Cleary. Gonna give them a test right now.
Posted by Osrt on 05/10/08 at 06:08 PM ET
Cleary can take net front duty on 2nd PP unit… So long as Sammy isn’t on the point.
Looks like Mac and Malts are both in. No Hartigan.

Sorry, Nashville.
I’m telling you..it was the slash by Winchester. Broken finger or wrist or something.
They killed Franzen!

At least there’s Karen Newman.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

Early is right. But that’s better than late due to defending the country from Rhode Island. Good to have ya back.
Great news for those of us without VS. Tonite’s game is on CBC. Actually, that’s probably good news even for those with VS. Pregame scheduled for 6:30.
Looking forward to the newly rested Stars making this a good game.
