Update 1836: This one hurts. Franzen, concussion like symptoms, out for tonite.
Starting the Live Blog a little early tonite. Apparently, the Hasek Club Car is filling up and you know those idiots need something to do. I’ll be here for the start of the game. Commence your conversations. Juveniliciousness is the only mandate.
Oh, and all those lower bowl seats the Delicate Genius was talking about? The empty ones he noticed after Kronwall’s hit? Here they are, thanks to Dave Guralnick of the Detroit News.
Gaping holes Mitch. Gaping.

Despite Refs’ Best Effort, Wings Remain In Lead. Thanks Gary.
(I’ll leave the eleventh word up to you.)

Maybe it’s me… or the new anti-depression drugs I’m taking… but I agree that, even though the Wings are getting a lot of penalties, they are controlling the game.

Hoorah… martini’s
Posted by Mike from La-La Land on 05/10/08 at 07:55 PM ET
Very close game so far… Dallas is committed to the chip and chase, but the Wings are doing a good job keeping them outside. The absence of the Mule is being picked up well by the rest of the team.

Hits
DET 30
DAL 17
Faceoffs, DET 30 something, DAL 9
Next goal may very well determine who wins this game

Martini is an adult beverage? Someone should have told my parents.
I guess that explains one thing or another.

Only 12 shots on goal for the Stars. If the Wings can stay out of the penalty box [heh] they can hopefully lock the Stars down in the 3rd.
Posted by Dave on 05/10/08 at 07:57 PM ET
Marty’s gonna blow it this period. The ghost of Joe Louis haunts him.

I want to see a softy for us, as a prelude to a Turckey melt (down) in Game 3…

Nice odd man break for the Wings there!!
DAL sure hasn’t started the 3rd with the energy they had in the 2nd
Hopefully they used up all their go power

Ozzie standing tall again. Giving us a chance to take the wind out of their sails.
Now let’s capitalize on those chances.

Yeah, and Wings are countering by going very short shifts right now. Expect the fatigue to factor in at about 12:00.
Posted by Nate A from Dark side of the moon on 05/10/08 at 08:07 PM ET
This dump and no chase crap is not gonna fly, guys… Ozzie saves our bacon yet again.

Wow, good work Ozy and back checkers.
Posted by Nate A from Dark side of the moon on 05/10/08 at 08:07 PM ET
Nate, I think fatigue is already here…
Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 05/10/08 at 08:09 PM ET
oh fatigue is definitely here, but with rested wings, it should be even more pronounced.
Posted by Nate A from Dark side of the moon on 05/10/08 at 08:10 PM ET
Ribeiro looks like Wolf Man....pretty creepy fella.

4th line draws the penalty. Top line is rested. The stage is set.

I thought you meant the other way. We look like we’re skating in sand most of this period and the last…
Posted by mudshark from Divetown, Colorado on 05/10/08 at 08:12 PM ET
Fourth line drew that penalty nicely.
Now let’s get the insurance goal, PLEASE?
PP’s been working so well, that’s not too much to ask, right?

Great work from Mac and Helm. I think they may have played two minutes, max, in the second. Looks like Uncle Mike’s gonna use them a bit more here, especially with Bubba’s tired D.

Posted by Mike from La-La Land on 05/10/08 at 08:16 PM ET
The Mule’s absence is felt pretty strongly, especially on our 2nd power play unit.
Posted by PDXWing from Portland, OR on 05/10/08 at 08:17 PM ET
BTW, Howie Long wants you to buy him some lunch.
I’d like somebody to buy Turkey Legs some lunch.

Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Hockey Netherworld on 05/10/08 at 08:18 PM ET
@ PDXWing
I thought the same thing. That unit just ain’t anywhere near as dangerous w/o the Mule.
Posted by Dave on 05/10/08 at 08:20 PM ET
Plan on starting the one goal pace at the five minute mark.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 05/10/08 at 08:20 PM ET
Great. Icing is always nice, especially with eight left and a one-goal lead.
At least the Circus is out there.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:

How Others View The A2Y 19
"Hell, I guarantee the content co-opters at Abel to Yzerman were about to link this article under the heading “Bitter Blues Fans” again right up until they just read that last half-sentance. Thanks but no thanks, you Kukla hangers-on."
--St. Louis Game Time
"I realize it’s the slow summer season, but can this guy tone down the tough-guy histrionics? His posts are fatiguing on an otherwise excellent site."
--A2Y Fan, Eternal_Fields
"I constantly marvel at how Bill (IwoCPO) and his disciples at Abel To Yzerman can be so pompous and full of themselves throughout every regular season, but come playoff time they collapse into wavering puddles of stress and nervousness as they anxiously await the impending and unavoidable collapse of the Red Wings in the post-season."
--Mile High Hockey
"I hate them because they are better than us. Of all the frigging teams…"
--In The Cheap Seats
"It's just a shame that the most classless, uneducated, lowbrow fanbase in the league gets this sweep. Red Wing fans don't deserve their team."
--Thhom
"I really don’t care what fans or bloggers think."
--Drew Sharp
"Why is it you Detroit fans are still so classless when you have such a classy hockey team, with such a professional GM and gentlemen players? I understand that the author of this blog is a manner-less cad, but the rest of you should be better."
--A2Y Fan, Jeff Beaumont
"Have you ever *read* A2Y? Its the most opinionated, juvenile stuff i've read."
--Paul Nicholson
"I actually like the Detroit team and have a sh&% load of respect for them, but their fans are the biggest douches next to Canadians."

"Just when it looks like we have bottomed out, the 19 hit a new low."
-A2Y legend, Hockeytown Todd
"And for the record, I don't hate the Red Wings, I hate their fans."
