Art…You’ll Never Learn

Ken Daniels is a hockey guy.
Art Regner is not.
Ken Daniels has credibility with the Wings organization.
Art Regner is viewed as a buffoon with a microphone.
Both proved it yesterday. Regner, the host of WXYT’s “Big Show” and the info-hungry sports reporter he is, watched the Wing/Ottawa game the other night on the tube. Good. He says he became perturbed when, during a timeout with :14 seconds left, FSN Detroit cut to Ken Daniels between the benches.
Why did that upset Art?
On the air yesterday, Regner said Ottawa players could look at Daniels’ monitor and see a closeup of the play Mike Babcock was discussing. Regner, the proven hockey afficionado he is, said that rather than listen to their own coaches, they peered over Daniels’ shoulder, watched and heard Babcock describe the designed play, passed the word down the bench, mind-melded and foiled the Wings last-second attempts to tie the game.
Ken Daniels, well, Ken doesn’t agree. And, thankfully for the listening audience, he called our boy Art on the carpet. Daniels rang the studio during Regner’s rant and was put on the air. Mistake. Dammit, Art. We’ve told you that if you’re going to babble, don’t bring on someone a lot smarter than you because you’ll look like, well, yourself.
Daniels told Art there was no way the Ottawa players saw, or could have seen the play Babcock set-up. More…Daniels asked Regner why he didn’t just call him up and ask him about it, rather than blubber on with limited knowledge (Art’s trademark).
Art, well, Art was befuddled. “Gee Ken…I kinda thought you were on a plane to Chicago.”
A better question may have been why Art wasn’t at the Joe covering the game himself. Care to answer that one Art?
Ohhhh…his leg was hurting him. My leg hurts. It’s kind of a twinge in my knee. Nothing serious, but I’m considering staying home tomorrow. No big deal. Well, heck…maybe a couple days. My leg hurts, you know.
I wonder how badly that leg’s gonna hurt if WXYT doesn’t get the Wing contract for next year? Now, we may be talking some pain then.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. “I kinda thought you were on a plane to Chicago” eh?
Meaning, “I thought there was no way you would hear me ripping you and call me on it?” Priceless.
