Babcock Endorses McCarty Signing

We ask for it, we get it. Earlier today the A2Y staffers wondered aloud what Uncle Mike thinks of the now practically guaranteed McCarty return. Question answered.
“We’re going to sign him,” Babcock said. “What we’re going to do is give him the opportunity to continue to get in shape in Grand Rapids.
“He’s got to lose some weight and get up to pace. The pace in the American (Hockey) League and the pace in the NFL are two totally different things.”
Since I’m all about the typo today, I’m going to guess that should read “NHL”. Babcock also pointed out that he appreciates what Mac did for the Wings in the past, but “we’re not about the past, we’re about the present.”

you decide who wants the ball more. And that’s what hockey’s about
Sand in his living room, and apparently hockey’s about a ball.
And you thought Finnegan’s Wake was hard to understand…

and don’t forget what Downey said about the way they played hockey in ancient Rome….

So the Wings lose Ellis on waivers.
Was Hartigan so valuable that we had to lose Ellis?
This is an inexcusable error by Holland.

Ellis isn’t worth a draft pick and he was a 14th forward on this team. Holland did Ellis a favor. On the other hand, LA could be doing this as a favor as a precursor to a deal.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Upon listening to that interview I got a good laugh from this classic Babblecock quote that I thought you’d appreciate.
“I believe in the end its a simple, simple game, no different than my two youngest fightin’ in the living room; you draw a line in the sand, and you decide who wants the ball more. And that’s what hockey’s about.”
He has sand in his living room?
He’s tough to punctuate.
