Back When Hate Was Good

Jibblescribbits posted this today after finding it at Bethany’s.  I’d assume it’s ‘98 or early ‘99.

HAH….awesome. Would anyone consider having his number retired here? Chicago is a lock. Montreal..umm…hell no. But here?

Two more cups and they’ll retire it. Maaaaybe if he wins one more. But it doesn’t look like they’re retiring Shanahan’s since they’re giving #14 to Meech, and Shanny won 3, so might be they’re keeping the standard extremely high (i.e., at least 90% of career spent in Detroit).

It’s a shame he didn’t stick to his word.

Man, I love Cheli.

Ah, good Cheli.  Some things do change for the better.  The man was Claude Lemieux to Wings fans before Claude Lemieux was anything more than an annoying Devil, and now Cheli’s walking around wearing “Made in Detroit” t-shirts.

I swear, in a million years, I never would have imagined that Chris Chelios is a Red Wing, but he still is a Red Wing.

You’ve gotta admit, though, that the day the Wings brought Chelios and Ulfie Samuelsson and Wendy Clark was one of the strangest days in Red Wings fandom history…

I remember sitting at a Whalers game two days later, seeing someone wearing a Wings Cheli jersey and just laughing to myself at how quickly peoples’ tune will change.

Then, when it happened in Colorado, when the Avs got Brad May, the fans didn’t warm up to him like I expected them to. I never understood that. I always thought it was a bad move from a hockey standpoint, but Avs fans unilaterally loathed that move.

Fandom is a weird thing.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
